Notification Light
Why did they fucking remove this?
How am I supposed to know if I got a new notification now if I'm not using my phone and the screen is off?

does your phone keep vibrating indefinitely once you get a notification?

I still have it on my Xperia. Anyway, some phones with always on display can approximate a notification LED

AOD looks weird and wrong, why would I want my display to be always ON just dimmed out?
If I'm not using the phone then the display should be pitch black.

When you take a shit in the toilet (which I am generously assuming you do) do you need a fucking lightbulb that lights up whenever some pressure sensor detects a turd in the bowl, so that you are reminded to flush the toilet instead of fucking remembering you just shit in the toilet?

Nice retarded analogy, the light led would be the feeling of needing to shit in your example and if you lose that you have to manually try to shit every so often even if there is nothing in there.

OP, you have no idea how much I wish there were notification lights on phones. Think about it: imagine a simple light that glows red for missed calls, blue for text messages, green for Facebook messages, etc (and you can customize for other apps.)

I understand that the AOD is the replacement, but I have a Motorola phone that doesn't offer that. Probably the biggest drawback of Moto phones.

The Nexus One had a giant glowing multicolored clit you could finger. It worked exactly as you described. Then they downgraded to tiny lights hidden around the screen. Then they disappeared entirely.

you're a fucking retard. of course the first thing you thought about in relation to phone notification LED was... ah right.. poop, shit, turds, flushing toilets. i fucking despise that you somehow thought this was a worthwhile or profound analogy and that it would do anything but make you look like a complete moron with shit for brains.

it doesn't even make sense either, like the other anon said your body notifies when you have a shit in your bowels ready to be evacuated, such as a notification LED signals that there is a notification needing to be viewed, in a poop analogy removing the LED notification would be removing that feeling/urge to shit, and instead having to physically gape open your asshole and visually check inside if there is poop in there ready to be evacuated.

You are either someone who always needs to check his phone anyway, or someone who never needs to check his phone, so it doesn't matter.

The notification is persistent. So if you walk away from the phone for a few minutes you don't have to turn the screen on when you get back to check if there are any messages or whatever unless the light is pulsing/blinking.

I fucking hate vibration. Has no use case, just wastes batttery. There's no way to disable globally on the config, and most games requires you to do a 30min unskippable tutorial with this shit on before allowing to enter the options to turn it off (if the dev includes an off switch).

it was too useful, is all I can think of. anything useful that prevents you from picking up your phone and doomscrolling is not conclusive for the agenda.

same reason why none of the AI features implemented are actually to help keep you off your phone. it's difficult to even disable all notifications that you don't give a shit about. I have to keep my phone on DND.

you know that black pixels do not use power in OLEDs, right? if you are troubled about burn in, worry not. Any half competent OEM makes it so that the clock in AOD is offset and scaled randomly every once in a while

are you talking about LCD? that essentially works by selectively blocking a white backlight but process is not 100% efficient so some inevitably leak. OLED is made up of very small LEDs, which are not lit if the color is pure black. Of course, there's bound to be and inherent energy cost of driving the display but it would be safe to assume that it would be negligible when compared to a screen in use at 50% brightness

Still the battery usage should be less if the phones screen is completely off even if the difference is little it feels wrong to use AOD

feel like oledfags think LCD is btfo here, but there is nothing wrong with the display on the right. it's really not a problem at all that a display is emitting light. i do not need black pixels to be off. literally whats the use case

Because they wanted to sell smart watches (remember those? lol)
Anonymous No.106326448
My first text-capable phone was a slide keyboard Windows phone. Honestly can't remember the model, but the center button had a light around the edge that would pulse in a circle if you had an unread notification. It was a handy feature back in those days when you weren't expected to have your phone on your person 24/7.
Anonymous No.106326641
>>106325965
OLED makes sense on phones, where hardware can't be changed and will be obsoleted by ever-increasing requirements so burn-in is a nonissue. On monitors, though, you have to consider it since it's independent to the thing you're plugging it to. I think LCD makes more sense for monitors since I tend to use the same monitor for longer.

As someone who lived that life with old galaxy phones and my first android (razr hd with a kino light bar), I don't entirely miss it. Phone is either in my pocket or on a charge pad on my desk. Pixel 7 now, I don't use AOD, though it's pretty good at lighting up when something comes in.
That said, I'd settle for AMOLED screens lighting up a small dot or line in place of a separate light. Similar to what galaxy edge phones did. That way, you know what the notification is and battery for the whole screen isn't used.
Will never happen, but I would personally trade the selfie camera for a notification light.
