>The other day he even asked me for help with updating drivers. In windows. Where all you have to do is open device manager and click on each driver to update it.
Arguably, this shit somewhat obscure and the fact that you and I and a few others understands it is due to experience dealing with Windows, not something a normoid could be expected to have.
A better system would be Settings > Windows Update having a flat list of items each with buttons that says "update" or "look for updates" or some shit, plus messages that indicates certain items can/should be updated.
It's absurd and shit, but how can you expect a normoid (who sees a computer as a means to an end, not something to be tinkered with for its own sake) to:
- Know that devmgmt.msc ("device manager") is a thing you can use.
- Know how to navigate and interpret the tree view you are presented with.
- Know how right click on the correct item and know that "update driver" does in fact updates the driver.
When people are in the mindset of wanting to get some shit done and move on, they won't pay attention to how the system they have to go through works.
Someone once brought me a (stolen) iPhone with passcode and asked me to reflash its OS. Not that I expected it'd achieve anything, but I could still get some bucks for flashing it.
Apparently I had to install iTunes after some scam app they told me to use didn't work.
Apparently iTunes is one of those "Windows Apps" garbage that is a just convoluted way of running an .exe file.
Since I had throughoutly disabled Windows Update on my PC, I had to brick my C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folders to get iTunes to launch. Even then, it didn't work.
I don't give a fuck about why it didn't work, I don't want to reverse engineer Windows Apps to figure out this shit. I only wanted cash and call it a day.
