No, they're going to require developers to register. If there's any conceivable way for a pajeet scammer to trick a senile boomer into sideloading an app that will steal all their banking credentials, they'll do it. Or rather, they'll use the idea that a pajeet scammer could do that in order to force this shit.

What is a certified android device? I run an unlocked Motorola with Lineage OS and only open source software, no gapps. While I doubt me device would qualify as certified as long as I can run this config I could care less about how they lock down their closed source shit.
There is no closed source apps you need. Either use the website of your bank or do what you need on a desktop.

If Android is open source, what stops you from adding a root certificate that you control to sign your own apps to the ROM itself?
Anonymous No.106386784
Well that makes it a LOT easier to switch to something more minimal - I'm at the point where either a minimal phone or trying postmarket is worthwhile.

Currently use GrapheneOS which is S-tier, but its clear this will lead to issues with the Play Store sandbox, yet alone their issues with Google neutering Pixel AOSP.

>>106386773
Well nothing - Android can still be built without these lockdowns regardless, but your device will be locked out of Play Store, Attestation, and any apps which use Play Protect.
So practically it would ruin the phone for most people outside of /g/.

I do think it will take longer than >>106386768

Create a dedicated machine for official use and use other hardware and software for everything else. The idea they are going to lock every single packet down and every machine that works will be under their control is beyond crazy.
It will mean that the few that want something outside what is created by them will have to do it themselves.

Everyone says this, but most small communities like that lean on the the identity verification or antispam techniques of corpos like Discord or Telegram. There are just so many more spammers and schizos on the internet compared to the old days that you need some way to rate throttle them or any community you have will be destroyed unless you have some method of identity verification or make people pay for membership or something.

All the current legislation is around website and none tall about age or Id verification being required to simply connect to the internet, at least that I am aware
And fuck it If they want to go that far you can up small mesh networks and link those with store and forward techniques like fidonet. You could even use the post office and sneaker net them that way.
It is not the end of the world and restrictions go hand in hand with innovation. This is the end for normalfags but whatever. You can't save them.

It seems to me it's only a matter of time before your ISP starts requiring it. Eventually all mainstream hardware will support hardware attestation and as far as your bank, your ISP and basically every other entity that is in it for money there is no reason not to leverage this "security" to ensure that you're not spreading malware or spamming or whatever. Yeah you can make your own internet with blackjack and hookers but based on how dead the small parts of the web are right now I can't see that going very well, at least not where I live. As far as normalfags are concerned there's nothing for them to be saved from. There is no threat. This is not the end for them, just a continuation of everything they gladly put up with on a daily basis.

That is the future for those who choose to exist beyond the wall. Whatever communities are established will be smaller and depend on obscure or old technologies. The BBS I frequent is a good example. It has a but less than 100 active users but those users are engaged. You just have to get used to the slower pace.

they'll still choose android because they won't have a choice. iOS is shittier in every way anyhow. Not sure why people think it's purely about side-loading, unless you're a woman and fall for marketing memes.

it took iOS years to just allow you to freely place icons, still has stupid top left corner back button shit, laggier and laggier settings app that "async load" content and throw off your clicks. it's still objectively slower in most all apps and workflows. not saying Adroid isn't shit either btw, but this delusion that iPhones go unsold to many purely because of sideloading is delusional.

delusional.

all android apps suck compared to iphone.
>iOS and Android are, from a macro perspective, rival peer platforms. But it’s not like, say, game consolesβ€”PlayStation vs. Xbox vs. Switchβ€”where all of the major games on all of the consoles are striving for the highest possible production values. Not one Android Mastodon client seems to be striving for iOS-level production values. Again, not iOS styleβ€”just the baseline level of polish and detail-sweating that are de rigueur for apps like new Mastodon clients on iOS. Your bank’s iOS app probably sucks (mine does), but that’s because it’s probably a cross-platform web wrapper that’s nearly identical on Android (mine is). Nintendo Switch games don’t have the same style as PlayStation or Xbox games, but all of them are trying to be really nice. That’s just not a thing on Android. It’s banking apps almost all the way down. It’s an entirely different culture, with a different value system from iOS.

I doubt devs from github/xda will be eager to go through goolag identification process and just abandon their apps.

ok... then buy an iPhone. Don't know what to tell you other than the reality that I have both an iPhone and an Android phone on my desk and on a most basic level:
fingerprint > face ID
UI navigation is objectively better on Android.
Android keyboards are much more varied and better than Apple's which won't even let you do basic things like move cursor between words, move cursor with spacebar or other basic UX.

both of these are purely use-based and not related to side loading. Not sure if most people who claim iPhones are better have actually used an Android phone or they fell for the marketing kool-aid like a good goy.

A career pajeet's sole purpose in life is to ruin the things you accept as good for personal gain. It doesn't matter if you have a passion project that you pour your heart and soul into, because as soon as you let a pajeet lead it, he will restructure the entire business model to revolve around letting everyone NOT do anything, and he will gaslight you that it's actually good for you sir, please do not have a doubt. Then he can pad his resume by saying he made your company achieve 10% extra profit, but by next year when your company goes under because everyone stopped consuming your enshittified, jeeted product, he will just be at another company, doing the exact same shit all over again.
If you let pajeets run your business, they will gut it, hollow it out, and feast on its lifeblood like it's the most delicious cow shit they've ever tasted.

This is first and foremost an attack on privacy and annonimity.
During the last year or two I have seen a strong push from governments to restrict peoples privacy, destroy annonimity and introduce more control and surveillance. I think this sideloading ban or sideloading that requires one to register with google and get their permission first (so not really sideloading anymore) ties into the increased control somehow. I am not sure yet how, but possibly apps that provide services like secure, encrypted communications, messaging, vpns etc outside of play store will not get permission from google, next there will be some sort of push from google to weaken security of new and existing apps on play store by forcing devs through legal means or technical means, those who refuse will not be able to publish on play and will not get google permission to have their apps sideloaded.
