I got asked months ago to work on a collaborative fandom project, and now that the dates are finalized and its less than 2 weeks out I am absolutely panicking that my work will be terrible compared to everyone if I even finish it on time.

I really never should've done this but I thought at the time it was fun and it was an honor to be approached, but my god I do not do well with guidelines and due dates its so much pressure and sucks the fun out of drawing. never again

It probably won't really go anywhere and you'll both abandon the idea in a couple of weeks, but it's a great opportunity for you to see if you understand concepts enough to teach it also ultimately the best money you can make through art is teaching it, so you'll gain experience with that. I realized I have no process. I just throw lines down and CTRL Z until it looks good. There's no control or planning. If I draw a character twice, I use completely different strokes each time so there's zero construction too.

Any of you ever follow artists who are into sports? Like they would repost football highlights or Lebron edits between their drawings of anime girls, maybe ragepost a little when their team loses? Apart from dedicated sports artists I don't think I've ever encountered an artist who likes sport in the wild, it's always food pictures or the usual nerdstuff (which is understandable)

Kind of culturewarslop post here I guess but the best artists I’ve met irl have all been fairly mundane people. I’ve yet to meet a “museum date arthoe” or middle aged woo woo crystal lady or an uppity queer that has made anything that is technically impressive or abstractly evocative in real life. At least in my life drawing sessions the best artist by class consensus is a Chilean mother and an older white gentleman. Don’t know if anyone else can corroborate this experience.

This is called searching. While it is a technique you can go with the drawbacks is exactly what you said. The number one thing you need in any field is consistency and if you don't know how to get there you won't have confidence in your art ability. You ever look at certain mid range artists works and wonder why it looks so generic and bland? That's because they're using what they know to get a consistent product, they're playing it safe (maybe to their detriment) so they know they can deliver. My advice would be to slow down and analyze what works with your lines take notes and redraw the art works until you understand. Your art will suffer due to the change and you may default to safer path ways, so remember to also take risks, you can always erase/redraw what ever you are drawing and experiment to come up with more creative ways to convey your idea.

See I can understand that, but I've seen a lot of artists who'd proudly show off their (for example) gaming or cosplay hobbies next to their art that I'm wondering if any artists have done the same but with sports. I just realized after those 5 years I wasn't really improving much anymore and yet my output still hasn't caught up to my tastes. And compared to my peers, I was garbage even though a lot of them has drawn in less years than me. I was blindly drawing with no structure and one day I just realized I'm never gonna overcome this plateau if I don't actually properly study my fundamentals. This is the result of those 5 years of plateauing. Just mediocre garbage. After doing a few courses, I actually felt like I was improving again.

That's the problem with the "Just Draw" advice, it's like telling someone, "Just workout" yeah at first you'll start to gain some muscles because you don't work out consistently but eventually people with a program will look better than you because they focused on body composition and optimal ways to get it. Just Draw gets the people who don't draw enough into the habit of drawing but it doesn't solve major problems like having consistency in quality for that you have to learn and analyze your drawings what method/process gives you what result and how can you can course correct. Teachers/ peers are the fastest way you can get good at anything, they've been there before and when you help someone who's lagging behind you it makes you look at what's going on. Look at every person who is great at anything, they did not get there alone and if they tell you that they did they're lying to you. I'm so much worse at drawing men than I am drawing women and I don't really know why. I draw more girls than men but it's not THAT much more, like maybe 6:4 ratio of men and women

the like to view on the majority of my female drawings is fine, the average is 1 like per 10 views and some are even better but then that but the like to view ratio for my drawings of men is way worse. Some of it is like 1 like in a 100 views or 200 views.

Comms are starting to finally pick up for me.
I've had one of two a week consistently for a bit now. It's getting to the point that I'm coming close to what I'd make at a regular job just on art alone.

It depends. If it's something big, complex background and everything, usually just one a day. But for small cartoon stuff, 10-20 a day, on occasion.

Most of the effort goes into research and prep, so a "draw this OC" type thing with all the refs pre-provided is easily done in an hour and forgotten about.

But that being said, it's pretty pointless to focus on being fast. Fast comes with practice. If you force it, you'll just be practicing how to draw badly. You need to be able to make tactical decisions on how to shed weight, not just go in blind. And that requires you have a good idea of what you're doing in the first place.

Has anyone here successfully dealt with brain rot? Mine is pretty severe and I really struggle to sit down and focus on anything, and it's not limited to drawing or studying (even video games and anime are difficult these days).
Yesterday I found that if I don't immediately start using my computer after getting home from work I can actually manage to focus for a bit. Today I even managed to spend almost 2 hours drawing, so I'm feeling a bit satisfied. I'm hoping if I keep it up I'll be gradually be able to stay stay focused longer even with my PC on. I think what really killed it for me though seeing a lot of girls pass classes for less simply because the teachers liked them. It would be fine if it was just one course but this happened in so many courses while everyone else was just tired or overworked.
