Venezuelan F-16s buzz American Arleigh Burke
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/venezuela-fighter-jets-navy-ship-trump-maduro/

Thoughts? Realistically, could Venezuelan F-16s do anything to a Flight IIA Burke besides serve as target practice?

The Venezuelans don't have ASMs, HARMs, or even guided bombs. The US knows this and so does the captain of the Burke, so they're probably just waiting for them to fuck up and try a strafing run or something.

There are a few cases where Kamikaze pilots would miss and then ditch. They would also turn around if they couldn't find a target. However given the vast distances of the Pacific, they might not have the fuel to get back, again necessitating a ditch.

Allied fleet defense was incredibly good by 1944-1945. So good it prompted the Kamikaze tactics to begin with. The Japs weren't exactly suicidal because on a rate basis, Kamikazes actually cost fewer lives per hit than traditional tactics.

Basically Japan was forced to invent the human guided cruise missile.

Not by a long shot, my USA based beaner bros tell me the big hate among beaners is Colombians VS Mexicans, and its largely based on language diffs. Mexican tells a Colombian "I speak MEXICAN" and the Colombian tells him, "You speak broken Spanish" and they start yapping at each other in "spanish" like a couple little shit-dogs. :)

Remember a couple decades ago Hugo shamed USA but giving our old poor folks cheap heating oil when prices were spiking? Venezuela has done similar for automotive fuel for pretty much all Latin American, here and there. Brazil, the big player, is now under Leftist control, and thus friends with current Venezuelan regime. Argentina stooge appears to be crashing out.

>This time, islam isn't involved so people are actually psychologically capable of abandoning the dictator.
Correct, Islam ain't involved and Venezuelan defeat of US military wont be like 'Nam or Iraq or Afghan, or Houthie defeats of US military.

That will be largely because none of those defeats involved any ethnic/foreign language group with any presence among US population, much less any presence in US military.

Imagine if the platoon of "Generation Kill" was 1/2 various Arab Muslims, with their primary loyalty to Islam and their Arab families and clans. That is what deploying USMC to Venezuela will be like. :) I can't wait for the Big Order to cum down, "No Talking In Anything But English" because 1/2 the USMC is whispering to each other in Spanish and NCOs and officers don't know WTF half their troops are whispering about, but it sure as fuck ain't about being on Team America.

Its a well known thing Cartels send guys into US military to get training, and no one has been able to defeat the Cartel tactic of ruthlessly targeting families.

I'm going to say the quiet parts out loud. 1) No level of additonal sanctions is going to get Russia to the table
2) there isn't additional military assistance the U.S. can give without prompting counterveiling Chinese involvement
3) the Europeans are constantly waffling and won't do anything without U.S. cover
4) Putin is the one person on planet earth who could end the USA on a whim and resolutely not talking to him is a bad idea

My point is that the US reached the outer limits of pressure on Russia by the end of the Biden administration, and despite Trump's bluster he implicitly recognizes he has limited leverage over Putin when it comes to eastern Ukraine. However, he has successfully repositioned U.S. involvement so we are getting paid for whatever we send to Ukraine. Now, even if they do have to fight it out, the American taxpayer is no longer hemorrhaging money. While this creates some distance between the U.S. and Ukraine that paradoxically helps Ukraine because it looks less like a U.S. proxy and can escalate attacks inside Russia. Trump's energy policy has also encouraged Ukrainian kinetic sanctions against Russia's refinery capacity where Biden was too beholden to Russian oil to keep global crude prices in check. Trump has also heavily tariffed Russia's partners like India and China.

My contention is therefore what more can Trump do with the geopolitical realities and domestic politics he has to contend with?

If they were lucky they might score a minor hit like those low flying guys from Argentina in the Falkland war but they would die. lol, keep pushing the UK Government’s version of events and maybe one day someone will believe it Nigel

https://www.campaignforliberty.org/hms-defender-versus-the-russian-military-the-danger-of-believing-your-own-propaganda

Press reports suggest that there was a dispute between the UK defense and foreign ministries over whether to violate Russia’s claimed territorial waters with a heavily armed warship. According to reports, Prime Minister Boris Johnson himself jumped in to over-rule the more cautious Foreign Office in favor of confrontation.

As Johnson later claimed, because the UK (and the US) does not recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea, the UK was actually sailing through Ukrainian waters. It was an in-your-face move toward Russia just weeks after the US and NATO were forced to back down from a major clash with Russia in eastern Ukraine

This time, as was the case in eastern Ukraine, the Russians took a different view of the situation. Russian coast guard vessels ordered the HMS Defender to exit Russian territorial waters – an order they punctuated with rare live fire of cannon and dropping of bombs.

Having had their bluff called, the UK government did what all governments do best: it lied. The Russians did not shoot at a UK warship, they claimed. It was a previously-scheduled Russian military exercise in the area.

Unfortunately for the UK government, in its haste to create good propaganda about standing up to Russia, they had a BBC reporter on-board the Defender who spilled the beans: Yes, the Russian military did issue several warnings, yes it did buzz the HMS Defender multiple times, and yes there were shots fired in the Defender’s direction.

Even Trump, who stacked his cabinet with cock-sucking sycophants, still has experts who'll tell him if he's making a huge mistake, but most of SA entirely lacks this very basic function. Maybe this is just Maduro trying to create internal hype, but it's equally likely he honestly thinks this is an intimidating display because no one is willing to stick their neck out to tell him, and he knows nothing about the airforce or navy; foreign or domestic.

If you think two ancient F-16s from a nation that only has three of them can slightly threaten that US naval group or that Trump wouldn't have them shot down on general principal i'd like a hook up for the crack you are smoking.

Those pilots expected to get shot down but didn't, that is worth respect.

They would face exactly 0% chance of being shot down even before the US decided to put on baby gloves to deal with thirdies in some kind of a misguided attempt to be seen in a more positive light by people who hate them.

>Remember a couple decades ago Hugo shamed USA but giving our old poor folks cheap heating oil when prices were spiking?
Well, first of all, the collapes in commodity prices caused the Venezuelan economy to collapse. Second of all, Maduro is no Hugo Chavez. You can say a lot of things about Chavez but nobody can deny he lacked charisma. Maduro... does not have that. Besides the Venezuelan government doesn't even have a commitment to that populist-socialist stuff anymore, the people in Venezuela who represented that part of Chavez's coalition bolted a long time ago as the government turned into a more bizarre, more criminally incompetent / rigged kleptocracy that suddenly now talks a lot about Jesus and is really only stanned now by the dumbest online tankies because of their foreign policy. It has gotten so bad that left-wing parties that used to be part of the coalition (to the left of the PSUV), are now part of the opposition, with the PSUV literally replacing their candidates on the ballot with Maduro like it's a cartoon satire of a rigged election.

Brazil, the big player, is now under Leftist control, and thus friends with current Venezuelan regime. Argentina stooge appears to be crashing out.
I'd also add that the socialist government in Bolivia is crashing out. There was right-wing coup, which held power for around a year and then failed, and the socialists came back, and then there was a split in the socialist party over the leadership with Evo Morales fleeing to one of his Andean peasant villages where the locals will kill police who try to arrest him. Elections are coming up soon and it's now guaranteed one of these right-wing candidates will win, and probably by a considerable margin. Bolivia was one of the "pink tide" stories along with Venezuela.

The fact that China is infinitely more imperialistic than the UK is hilarious, but they back Argentina that Falklands is theirs (it isn't, despite the UN saying otherwise) and tried to give Argentina stuff so they could invade. USA didn't want a pro-Chinese state there anyway and offered F-16's instead and Argentina accepted those. Of course, China has a vested interest to keep Argentina on side because they are strip fishing their waters illegally and fucking their economy worse while causing untold environmental and natural disasters.

And to come back to the original question, how was the placement of IRBMs on Cuba an "act of war"? One of best contributions of Malaysia's military efforts is to combine the best of the Soviets and the West. Malaysian equipment are well-known to be extensively upgraded with Western technology beyond the capabilities of simple 'Slavshit'. The biggest challenge is the difference in operational philosophy between Malaysia and Soviet Union. Malaysia tried to address these shortcoming with SU-30MKM which uses Soviet airframe & Western avionics. The flankers are better built, have extensive air to ground as well as air to air capability and compatible with RMAF's mostly-western equipments. Malaysian SU-30MKM are the only Sukhoi SU-30 series that capable of using Sidewinder, Paveway and JDAM. Currently RMAF is able do do SEAD with Su-30MKM + Kh-31P. SU-30MKM "Growlerski" is also the first ECM/EW Sukhoi platform designed and build outside Russia.A multi-role platform with SAP-518 ECM pod and mix of SAP-14 jamming pod is considered similar to the United States ALQ-99 jamming system installed on the EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler. Funny thing is the Russian are following Malaysian example that successfully integrated Russian-Western technology into their SU-30MKM.

if you thought US foreign (military) policy was disfunctional before, wait till we get into a no-win open ended conflict against not just Leftist govts, Cartels, but guerrillas, narco-guerrillas across multiple nations, where the Cartels are already up in every town, court and police dept and school system in mainland USA.

BTW, Cartels are all transnational and even largely non-racial. Truly "merit based".

The extant to which Trump and Little Marco don't know WTF this is going to lead is mind boggling, but IMO could involve some really weird bedfellows, like White Boomers raised on MLKjr Civil Rights worship going against US Govt because US Govt is trying to militarily address Cartels inside USA, and you can't do that without stepping on a lot of Mexicans.

I'm sure there is some Art of War warning against getting into this sort of situation.

>I can't imagine it's that hard to machine a pylon that matches F-16s on top and Chinese bombs on bottom.
Pylons aren't exactly "machined". They're a shell designed like the hull of a boat with bulkheads and a skin. It's laid over a combination of servos and clamps that grip, stabilize, and release the bombs. Alongside that is cable harnesses and microcontrollers that not only power the servoes but communicate with the armament computers and cockpit, tell the bomb to arm itself, and all that jazz. You could make an adapter for basic-bitch gravity bombs pretty easily. For something like a GBU or anti-ship missiles that you're targeting in the cockpit computers, you need a dedicated pylon that lets you interface with the disposable stores' computers. Just stuffing a Raspberry Pi into a pylon and hoping it holds together over a few hundred launches and landings is a real bad idea. Especially considering how rough that shit is on the purpose-designed and shielded/stabilized hardware made for the plane. Not that it's something the Chinese wouldn't do, mind you, but it's still not smart.

>Chink pylons are probably compatible with American ones
The physical interfaces are likely very similar. Not so sure about the software or computing interfaces, especially after seeing the unholy bodge jobs in some Chinese cockpits. I swear, they practically run their HUDs with a bootleg NES-onna-chip. I shudder to think what the inside of their armcomps look like, probably a nest of x68000s and a knockoff TI calculator wired to ribbon cables.

There are a *couple* things left that could be done. My preference would be for secondary sanctions on all of the European corporations whose CAD/CAM machinery is being used by Russia to make things like missiles. There are big names there, like Siemens, that are actively maintaining the software under legacy contracts that keep getting loopholed or flat-out ignored because European governments are more concerned with money than with actually defending Ukraine, much less upholding international agreements that they signed on to for political reasons. If Russia loses the ability to use those machines, their ability to build high-performance airframes craters.

Also (and the USAF's planners can help with this under the table), Ukraine needs to be going after the substations that power Russia's rail lines. Most of their locomotives on lines west of the Urals are electric. Substations are hard to replace/repair. You kill their rail network, you cripple their economy and massively reduce their ability to resupply the front lines.

But yeah, there aren't a lot of levers left that don't involve open escalation. Since Russia seems to be crashing out over Ukraine, there's not a lot of "safe" options other than starting to actually enforce the existing sanctions and embargoes *as written*, which Europe doesn't wanna do because money.

>Cartels are not jihadis. They are mostly people who are either desperate for money or blackmailed. This is not an ideological war.
This is only semi-true. There have been long term LatiX rebel groups in South America and have been successful revolutions against US backed military govts in Central America.

LatiX are a diff animal largely because with Latin based Spanish and Catholic religion they are already somewhat integrated into the West, where as jihadis at least started out as true "aliens".

No one seems to have an answer to Cartel practice of ruthless murder of family members to gain compliance of not just gang members but officials of every level.

It would take an almost unimaginable new Police State in USA to even think about protecting the families of US officials, including deployed military officers, if Cartels or "rebels" want to start playing dirty.

What are you going to do, put 60 million LatiX, many of who are Natural Born Citizens, in Concentration Kamps due to Pre-Crime?

Or put all families of US military in On Base Housing, which they also couldn't leave without massive escort. Those Army Wives are gonna get tired of buying all their clothes at the PX real fast and husbands will be resigning commissions in droves.

Could some big operation break the Cartels? Maybe, but I don't see current US Govt ready to do the sort of serious enforcement in both LatiX America AND on the streets of USA, against as I mentioned many Natural Born Citizens sleeper cell Cartel operators.

It's a word made up by white liberals who don't actually speak Spanish or Portuguese, they were offended by how as a Latin based language Hispanic languages have gendered terms when they refer to individual people.

'Latinx' is a gender neutral term designed to correct the sexists language of Hispanics by rich white liberals who can't actually speak any Hispanic language .

These are very good point.
I would like to add that all the immigration sentiment, rhetoric, actions doesn't help Americans either if they decide to push Maduros shit in.
On the other hand I don't believe the "4 million troops mobilized by Maduro", nor do I believe that he has as much support domestically as he likes us to believe.
The killing of people in international waters without being attacked does set a new murky precedent that will have repercussions in the years to come.

We all look at past historical mistakes and we laugh how people could be so stupid, but right now Venezuelans are doing exactly what the US wants them to do, considering how hungry for blood americans are right now they are looking for the flimsiest excuse to go full Jungle Storm on Maduro, I hope he actually tries shooting at one of the ships.

It's quite natural that we're going to go after Maduro who's now in real clear and present danger. After that debacle in Afghanistan? You bet. It's time for America to bounce back by bombing some shitty Latin American banana republic. We're totally going to do it.

We had Thor IRBMs in the UK (initially with USAF crews but later under a dual-key arrangement with the RAF), Jupiter MRBMs in Italy and Turkey (as well as the Italian and Turks having Jupiters of their own including nuclear warhead-sharing agreements), and Redstones, Pershings, Matadors, and Maces in West Germany (with the Bundeswehr operating Matadors and Pershings too, again with American nuclear warheads)
