The kit is fine, it's just that bandai didn't really design kits around out of the box appearance until some time in the 2010s so older kits have a very obvious shiny plastic kind of look and lackluster color accuracy. It has nothing to do with them not giving certain suits enough love.

For what it's worth, I've built the RE1/100 Gerbera and really loved that build and the final product, and the RE1/100 Vigna Ghina which was alright.

Anon who was asking about decals a few threads back here. I got everything running and have printed some for my Warhammer stuff, but I still feel like there has to be a decent file somewhere for printing Gundam stuff. Anyone got markings or squad symbols floating around as HQ they'd be willing to share? I'll put together a sheet with my template and see how it comes out/looks on a model if you do, though it might take a few days given how the weather is here.

The thing has been out of print for so long that it was purely a status symbol before the reprint. And the sole reason it even got force-fed into the artificial scarcity pile was because it was a colossal failure in terms of profitability. Driving up demand with the rare reprints allowed Bandai to set the price higher and thus more easily recoup the losses from the molds.

I would not be surprised if we got a The-O 1.5 in five years that recycles 60-70% of the original molds. Still a piece of junk, but at least the price would be more justified.

hey airbrushers of /gpg/, are you willing to lock yourself in DSPIAE walled garden, if its to never have to worry breaking your expensive airbrush again or washing it.

i saw this in the recent flip model kit convention and it looks promising, so the airbrush is just an air blower, and you attach the mixing bottle with the paint below with the airbrush needle below. so if the needle breaks, you just need to replace the needle. its said to be compatible with the acrylic markers too

I think it's because those sockets/rings for those hinges are too thin. This hinge has slightly thicker walls and lasted longer despite being clear yellow plastic.

Also the EU sorta solved this already. The seller has to digitally announce the price when sending it. The domestic mail service receiving the package then either prepays the tariff for you and only delivers the last leg to you if you repay them, or it is held in customs until you pay and its cleared to continue. Packages without digital declaration will need a physical declaration on the outside of the package and only sometimes do they actually open it to check for a sample test.

Low end filament printers can't do detail very well, though they are good for dioramas and lots of useful things like tools. I don't regret buying one, but it's also a temperamental piece of shit that's loud, takes forever, and prints sometimes fail due to temperature, humidity, loose belts, the phase of the moon, whatever.

Manually placing supports sucks. Autosupports do a bad job. Print failures are harder to troubleshoot than FDM, but once dialed in it's more reliable. Resin is so toxic and I actually think I might have poisoned myself for life trying to print resin indoors. Detail is incredible, but the amount of work required to clean and process each print was just too much. Still nice for original designs, for which no retail kit exists, and digital kitbashing is kind of fun.

Decals for the Vidar are still in shipping limbo, so I started this Chinese Messer kit. Its design is a bit of a departure from Bandai's design. There is a second "face" included that more closely resembles Bandai's design. The parts quality is better than I thought, and the kit build is comparable to the MG The-O, not complicated but better than something like the Jegan.

is the software better now? I spent a lot of time in 2023 playing with auto support settings and results varied greatly based on part size and complexity. Either it did a bad job with supporting, was too difficult to remove the supports, generated supports over of detail, or frequently all three. The /3dpg/ "advice" of "just rotate the model 45 degrees" was not sufficient at that time.

pic related came out kind of awful, with visible layer lines after painting, and visible damage from removing supports, but I painted them anyway for some reason. Smaller scale prints, 15mm, 6mm, came out much better almost all of the time.

I have literally an entire closet packed from floor to ceiling with my backlog, and a couple dozen additional kits outside of said closet. I'll be fine. I got a Gundam Marker Metallic Green and I've been shaking it and it comes out green but then dries very metallic silver with a faint green outline. Am I doing something wrong it even says it's supposed to be for eye cameras but it's just silver.
