What are you anons thoughts on Junki Takegami's Sentai (Megaranger, Gogo V, Gaoranger and Go-Onger)?

I like Megaranger and GoGoV a lot. Lukewarm for most of Gaoranger and Go-Onger, but I like Go-Onger more.

Megaranger is a really fun time, it makes full use of the high-school setting, the light nasacore aspects are interesting and the cast is solid.
GoGoFive despite having a really basic plot and villains it's one my favorite Sentai shows because the rescue aspect is extremely entertaining and it has the best family dynamic imo.
Gaoranger is also a really fun time, I like everyone from the cast except blue, the motw and villains in this one are especially entertaining and I'm also really fond of the mecha. While the CGI is distracting I didn't mind it that much. I also really liked how to team just kept getting progressively more smug as the show went on, to the point that they thought they were immortal and started bullying the villains.
Go-Onger is great, really likeable team, and the main 4 villain generals are exceptional. What sours me a bit on the show is the final quarter, all of the new villains and motw in that last stretch suck and make the final arc feel like a massive drag in spite of the emotional moments with the remaining villains from the original quartet, the only episodes I like from that stretch was the Christmas hostage situation episode.

Kinjiro is an old-fashioned detective who stressed that his job is pretty much unpopular now.
Since Sumino is still in high school, Oto only missing for like 3-4 years so we won't get a teenage Oto becoming Universe Shinken Red, I guess. I don't know what would be her gimmick if she lost her detective role.

Yeah, I could definitely see that. Like I said though, he did a good job at consistently presenting interesting scenarios, its just that he didn't really do much with the characters in them and they handled each one in a very "matter of fact way". He also had them losing so much or making bad decisions towards the end that it was getting aggravating (ie:having characters do things that had not worked any time previous and getting punished for it, summoning animals into heated fights having them insta-KO'd for no reason, falling for the same enemy tricks over and over).

Dunno if that was just a Gao issue or if that affects his writing in all the shows he has worked on.

That's mostly a Gao issue. I enjoyed it, but it's pretty flawed and has several moments that feel off, like what you said in your post, and repeatedly failing at using any strategy at all. They don't really do that in the other shows. The closest to it is Megaranger often has Kenta rush into action and fuck himself or someone else up, but he's a very specific type of japanese highschool character that is prone to doing that and I love it.

He writes characters that are more "normal people" than what we usually get from Sentai crews, so they end up getting "bland" tacked on to them, which I completely disagree with as it's really a Gao issue (and Go-On Blue). My main criticism was that the character focus episodes didn't do anything for anyone other than GaoWhite having some fun backstory and gap moe. Red doesn't get anything, Blue gets an anecdote that doesn't add anything, Yellow is very "matter of fact" like you said, and Black gets some fun episodes but they never do much with his character outside of those, so it feels off.
His other shows don't do that, so I don't know what happened there.
I still liked it though.

What do you mean, the show were popular, only the toys did really poorly because the Mecha were simpler. The producer did it that way so that all the mecha in the show could be agile enough to perform martial arts, but it ultimately backfired because they were too cheap to make up for sales and a lot of kids weren't interested because the design "didn't change much" according to them, which is bs to me.

Gotcha, thats actually good to know as Dekaranger was pretty high up on the backlog and seeing that it shared the same writer that really worried me.

Pretty much everything you said echo the rest of my thoughts to a T, including liking it. I didn't hate watching it like, say, Kiva, but it just felt like a very middle of the road show due to the issues we talked about. There were still a lot of things to like, but there were quite a few very detrimental flaws.

No, that was his true identity as part of the plan, his butler look is a disguise Hymeno prepared so that he can serve as a butler much better and not suffer from his looks. Everything about him was more romantic than Yanma who was treated like a joke that episode and the other time it was implied he had feelings for her. Although obviously as romantic as that flashback of Sebastian was, it's not enough to classify him as a "ship", ultimately the only rangers to actually have a love interest in King-Ohger are Gira and Racles.

GaoYellow is the coolest. I also wish we got more out of his backstory, especially with the weird teaser about him helping troubled kids in that episode, and having a "big brother" attitude while also being a goof. Speaking of goofs, I really liked the comedy in the season, and I feel that's something Junki does really well. You can't go wrong with Deka, it's a top season for a reason.

First half of Kiva was great, it was the second half where it felt like everything fell apart in the absolute worst ways. The romance subplot in both the past and current times were undone in a bizarre way, the final villains (his dad and brother), were awkwardly introduced, and the final fight made me appreciate Kuuga's cutaway. Its also a shame they weren't able to use the base suit after a certain point due to the back troubles it caused the suit actor. I do get the love for old jank games though. There's also the rare moment where you find something with such a good idea and passion that it transcends the jank. Those are always the best.

And the humor was definitely a huge positive in Gao. The fourth wall joke where the announcer couldnt think of a name for a Gaoking combination and Red awkwardly looked off screen then just gave it a random name had me legit cracking up. Really, a lot of the humor felt ahead of its time.

Well, it took me half a year, but I finally finished Sun Vulcan.
This was painful to watch.
I haven't looked at opinions on the Showa era Sentai, so I don't know how people felt about this then or now, but this sucked fucking ass and is to date the longest I've taken to finish any season of a tokusatsu. In a previous thread someone mentioned JAKQ was unanimously disliked, which I understand, but that at least had Big One and his Big Gun which I thought were kinda nice.
I can't think of anything good to say about Sun Vulcan other than FUHRER HELL SATURN is a great name and design, but oops! Turns out it's fucking Shine again! Thanks JAKQ!
Queen Hedrian's new design was horrible, Black Magma was lackluster, the episodes were a horrible to watch because of the cast, it just sucked the soul out of me. Even the focus episodes I found ranged from weak to annoying.
Denziman had a lot of stuff I didn't like but it was still very fun to watch, the cast was cool, the finishers were great, and I generally enjoyed watching the villains do their thing.
Sun Vulcan had none of that. Even Inazuma Ginga was just Banriki again. And I thought Banriki was great just because of how funny it was that he was a drunk asshole.

Good on you for pushing through and finishing what you started. I will say, I've watched a pitiful amount of showa but from the fight clips I just saw of Sun Vulcan... you could have had worse. Ost also didn't sound bad. I have a painfully hard time getting into the showa era shows where it basically looks like adults play wrestling in the same manner as children do, so the fact that one had some believable fighting automatically puts it ahead of a couple in my book.

I grew up with Showa Rider and Metal Heroes so that part doesn't bother me. There's a certain charm to it. I recently watched the original Ultraman and watching him jump on a guy in a monster suit and slap him on the head a few times is awesome.

Goseiger is fine but you can tell it had production issues. They didn't do enough with the angel theming and it just felt overly generic for a Sentai. Great music though, and Alata is a very good Red that cares about his found family angel tribe team (though I was bummed that we missed out on Sen-chan GoseiGreen because he had to go and die on us.)

The show's producer Jun Hikasa was expecting a promotion and for Go-Onger to be his last season so he really didn't want to work on this, resulting in him doing a lot of stuff half-assed. The main writer Michiko Yokote wanted the tribes to be a bigger deal and the animosity between the teammates to last longer but the producer axed the idea which is why the end up getting along really quickly and the writer initially didn't know what to do with the cast. The pilot director didn't know it at the time but he had a tumor that was on its later stages, Goseiger and it's V-Cinema ended up being one of his last directional roles, his poor health affected the action negatively.
Halfway through the show, the producer just straight up quits, this results on the two assistant producers having to take over the whole show and for the show to temporarily have no writers, but they managed to secure the original main writer Yokote back by the end.

Honestly the Sentai Gears suck and Geartoringer is kind of ugly. Zenkai-oh was just 2 bricks with swappable parts. Zenkaiju-oh and Twokai-oh are the only two toys I'd say are worth owning if you like Zenkaiger.

It feels like the toys have been rather lackluster for a while, Kiramager has tiny robos that didn't combine with no clear gimmick and lack of interaction between any of the toys, Zenkaiger's line as a mess and despite it being an anniversary series it never felt like they really pushed the collectible aspect of the gears, donbrothers straight up reused the gimmick with it's one saving grace being a reinvention of robo design that boosted sales... which was never followed up with, KingOh had smaller, more fragile mechs that ended up with messy unstable combinations, BoonBoon centered everything on a single mech that was mediocre at best
