I was confident that Lango would be the final boss from the very beginning. What I was hoping was that Komura wouldn't fall into her old bullshit and completely fumble the main fucking villains of the show so hard. Lango is such a stale bread character that any impact he should have as Shoma's final challenge just isn't there. It especially doesn't help that he was already soundly defeated by Over/Master before.

They had the genius idea of turning their safety measure for a potential lockdown hiatus into a crucial part of the lore and setting so early on into production they managed to continuously build upon this key character from the very beginning of the show all the way to the end.

It's nice when the narrator gets to be more than a disembodied voice, and so are the instances in which the silliest character turns out to be the most tragic one.

The Granute world is a hellhole, even with all of them gone there are still a bunch of assohole nobles that are supposedly strong, so while Shouma could probably defeat all of them, they could make a movie about Lakia and Hanto getting trapped in the Granute world, trying to save it, then they manage to establish the doors again and drag the villains to the human world again where they get new gochizos.

The last 30 minutes "big anniversary" movie of Sentai with Zenkaiger (with all reds appearing and a bunch of past villains) gave it no boost at all compared to the box office of standard Versus movies the next year (or Zyuohger vs Ninninger a few years before), and that number was bad enough they stopped the theatrical Sentai Vs movies and scaled them back to V-Cinema. I really doubt the Sentai feature has much influence on these summer movie box offices when it's so short.

"Code No. 7. The Nameless Agent"
What is your mission?

This time, the transformation belt isn't worn around waist, but on the chest!

Celebrating the release of the much-talked-about new hero, Kamen Rider Zeztz.

This time, we present a special feature!

Must-see interviews with the producer and toy developers!

In September 2025, Kamen Rider history takes on a new mission!

Baku Yorozu is an agent assigned to the "Top Secret Defense Agency CODE."

His mission is to carry out missions assigned by his commander.

His new mission is to rescue the nationally renowned beautiful entertainer "Nemu."

Defeat the criminal gang, rescue the imprisoned Nemu, and act with unparalleled skill!

But all this happens in dreams. Baku possesses the power to be aware of his dreams and manipulate them, commonly known as "lucid dreams."

Although he's an accomplished agent in his dreams, in the real world, he's an unemployed young man constantly looking for work. The protagonist of this work is a man living a double life (?), caught between two extremes.

This young man obtains a transformation belt and begins his battle against monsters called "Nightmares." However, this also happens in dreams. But, this gradually affects the real world...

This is the first time a Kamen Rider work has been set in a dream world.
Adding to the novelty of a protagonist who only becomes stronger in dreams,

The transformation belt worn on his chest gives Zeztz a distinct and powerful look.

A nod to Kamen Rider Ichigou, his stylish figure feels like the dawn of a new era.

This series avoids using standard, trademark dialogue and attempts a more natural dramatic approach, which is also exciting. Besides the "transformation belt" worn on the chest, various toys, such as secret agent toys, are also available, so keep an eye out for them.

The producer is Toshinari Yanaka, who is taking on the role of lead producer for a tokusatsu work for the first time. The screenwriter is Yuya Takahashi, whose work in the Kamen Rider series includes Ex-Aid (2016), Zero-One (2019), and Geats (2022). Zeztz is his fourth Kamen Rider installment.

The lead director is Kazuya Kamihoriuchi, whose challenging acting style, demonstrated in Ohsama Sentai King-Ohger (2023), promises even greater advancements in the future.

In addition to being released in various Asian countries and regions, this series will also be broadcast concurrently in select European and American territories. The new rider's mission is to "be active globally."

Traveling through dream worlds and overseas, what challenges await Kamen Rider Zeztz?

Kamen Rider Zeztz Physicam Impact
Baku equips the Capsem (a tool containing the power of dreams) on his chest's Transformation belt (Zeztz Driver), transforming into Kamen Rider Zeztz.
Capsem currently comes in four basic colors: red (Physicam) for "physical power," blue (Technolom) for "power or civilization," green (Esprim) for "power of divinity," and purple (Paradigm) for "dimensional power," that can be used on a real-world like level.

The motorcycle he rides is a "Code Zeroider," capable of transforming into a humanoid robot. It likely reminds many of Auto Vajin from "Kamen Rider 555."

Baku (played by Ryuutarou Imai) and Minami (played by Miki Yagi) are a harmonious sibling pair. The brother, Baku, is a young man with a strong sense of justice, but whenever he helps others, he encounters nightmare-ish misfortunes (accidents, crimes, illnesses, etc.). He's incredibly unlucky.

Minami is the reliable sister who supports her brother. She works as an entertainment manager, lives with her brother, and she's incredibly reliable, while financially supporting both of them (laughs). Her philosophy is "dreams are not something to be seen, but something to make come true."

Nemu (played by Maho Horiguchi) is a nationally recognized beautiful entertainer.
She's also the queen of commercials (CMs), with the highest popularity rating. Given her explosive popularity, it's almost certain she'll appear in Baku's dreams. In the real world, Baku is just an ordinary citizen with a one-sided admiration for Nemu (laughs). Nemu's dream scenes are vary, and her costumes change depending on the dream, which is the highlight.

Tetsuya Fujimi (played by Kenta Mishima) is the Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department's Public Security Bureau's Mysterious Incident Division. Investigating mysterious incidents known as "Black Cases" (suspicious deaths, disappearances, and unsolved accidents).

Nasuka Nagumo (played by Rina Onuki) is an elite professional assigned to the Misterious Incident Division and harbors suspicions about the Black Cases. Rina Onuki is best known for her role as Sae (Kamen Rider Lopo) in "Kamen Rider Geats."
"You can't do anything. No one can save you. Witness the ultimate nightmare."

Nightmare Monsters

The monsters that appear in this series are called "Nightmares."

They penetrate the depths of the human psyche and appear in the dream world.

They transform the dreamer's unconscious wishes into evil dreams (nightmares) and sabotage them to fulfill them in their worst form. Bomb Nightmare uses the nightmare power associated with bombs to leap into darkness. The larger photo shows Gun Nightmare, who appears in episode 1. All monsters wear belts around their waists, sharing the same buckle but varying in the straps.

Toshinari Yanaka interview excerpt.

An Interview with Toshinari Yanaka, Chief Producer of "Kamen Rider Zeztz"
Leading the "Kamen Rider Fighting in Dreams" series is Toshinari Yanaka of Toei.

The impending program's planning intentions and hidden secrets!

Toshinari Yanaka / Born in 1989. A producer affiliated with Toei. He has worked on the TV series "Woman of S.R.I." and the Toei film and stage production "Jakkotai". He made his debut in special effects as an AP on "Kamen Rider Ex-Aid." He has also worked on "Kamen Rider Build" and the TTFC streaming program "Kamen Rider Outsiders." "Kamen Rider Zeztz" marks his first directing special effects production. "Ninja Sentai Kakuranger" is the special effects series he watched live as a child.

"The design was instantly OK."

==========

--Please tell us about the planning process.
>Yanaka: Mr. Shirakura, who's in charge of character strategy, said, "We want this to be a work that aims to expand globally." That said, the primary audience is still children in Japan, so we're planning with considerations like how to incorporate elements that appeal to audiences overseas. The first thing to consider is, "What's the theme for Kamen Rider?"

>For example, "Gavv" features snacks, which is eye-catching and trendy. However, there's a chance that people from overseas seeing Kamen Rider for the first time might think, "Kamen Rider is a snack hero?"

>So, we felt it was important to first convey, "This is what Kamen Rider is." Then, recalling the plan for "Kamen Rider Build," where the lead producer said, "The theme is Kamen Rider," I felt that this approach was the right one.

>The design designer showed me the first time was almost exactly what we wanted. Of course, there were further refinements later, but this initial design served as the foundation.

--The belt is worn on the chest, right?
>Yanaka: That was the original design. The decision to wear the belt around the waist wasn't a conscious effort to create a new rider image; rather, it was made because wearing it on the chest felt very stylish.

>"What kind of hero is Kamen Rider?" A simple definition reveals that fighting on a motorcycle is essential. On a motorcycle, the belt is invisible on the abdomen, but clearly visible on the chest. Doesn't a chest belt perfectly complement a motorcycle? With this in mind, the chest belt was continued.

Yanaka seems more down to earth which I like, it seems like he wanted to do experimental motifs but decided not to give a proper introduction to the western audience, but that doesn't mean we'll get safe motifs in the future it seems it just was to give a proper "first show" to newcomers that doesn't confuse them on what's Kamen Rider about, so next year we can get experimental motifs again as long as the producer doesn't pussy out. While I like how Gotchard's design meshes a grasshopper with a train seamlessly, this really makes me wish Minato hadn't done an Ichigo homage since he really didn't have any reason to do so unlike Zero-One and Zeztz. I hope the show turns out well even if Takahashi's tropes will feel repetitive because his previous 3 seasons weren't that long ago and the show will start without a focus on plot like Drive.

I know I'm assuming like a retard because this interview is incomplete but based on this and the blog on how the designer came up with the secret agent aesthetic I'm wondering if Minato came up with the secret agent motif and partially with the toys but Yanaka came up with the dream motif while leaving Bandai pretty hands-off on how to handle the general aesthetic of the show.

Gozyuger's producer Matsuura touched upon the Shin mannequin in the recent interview with Shirakura and Tsukada when asked about his impressions of being a producer
>During the filming of the movie "Saber + Zenkaiger: Super Hero Senki" which is basically a typical hero team-up film, there's a scene where everyone gathers together. Several trucks arrive, and the Kamen Riders are lined up. Kamen Rider Shin from "Shin Kamen Rider Prologue" was also there among them.
>However, the Kamen Rider Shin suit had deteriorated and was turned into a display mannequin. If taken off the mannequin, it could never be restored to its original condition. The life of Kamen Rider Shin was in danger. I wondered what they would do, but they ultimately decided to leave him as just a display mannequin (laughs).
>Looking back at "Super Hero Senki", Kamen Rider Shin was the only one who didn't move at all (laughs). Seeing that they were able to continue filming, I was glad to have worked with Toei (laughs).

Interview with Producer Yanaka (cont):

>The design of the transformation belt is almost all black, very minimalist yet.

Yanaka: Not making it fancy was one of the themes of this one. Previous transformation belts have been the size of a bento box, and I don't think it's realistic to wear something of that size on your chest, so it's good that the size is also a bit more compact than in the past. The key point is that the part that goes into the capsule is Turquoise Green and wraps around in a circle.

>What about capsules for the linked props?

Yanaka: Initially we were pushing toward eliminating the linkage props. I thought it would be easier to organize the plot by having the ability to switch forms without the props, like in Kuuga or Den-O. Since it's a Rider fighting in a dream world, it should be able to change its form or activate its abilities even without the linking props. However, considering the commercial aspect, it was felt that it would be better to have linkage props, so it was finally decided to introduce them. That being said, we still wanted to add some logic to the setup. So we proposed that instead of attaching flashy parts when the form switches, the energy is conducted to a certain part through the belt's vein-like lines, for example, if the energy is focused on the hand, the shape of the hand will change, how about this for directionality? The force moves from the chest to the girdle, thus changing form or shape. That's the reason we set it up.

>The fact that the Capsule's power can be used even in a non-transformed state is novel.

Yanaka: This was a setup that came about after discussions with Ishimori PRO and the toy team during discussions on how to enhance the value of the capsule itself. The center part of the capsule has a rotating mechanism, and by rotating it you unleash the power, as depicted in the episode. For example, if you use the Impact Capsule, your muscle strength will increase and your physical abilities will be enhanced.

>ZZZ has four basic forms, and a variety of derivative forms based on them. For example, there are two types of stances based on the Physicam Impact, β€œStretch (ability to stretch limbs)” and β€œWing (ability to fly)”. It looks quite special as a shape-shifting system.

Yanaka: Relying on just one form for an entire year is a lot of work for a series, and it's hard to be so extreme (and concise) from the point of view of the merchandise lineup. However, we also don't want to make the shape change too much when switching between forms. In recent years, it's been popular to layer armor on top of armor, but this time, for the base form of each color, our concept was to β€œkeep the shape the same, but only change the color”. Although the pattern around the chest changes, we consciously tried not to change the direction of the body lines.

>In other words, a form that could have been a completely different look (design) has been made into a derivative form of the same color. There are currently 10 publicly available forms, right?

Yanaka: Yes. Physicam Impact is the basic red color. On top of that, there are two derivative forms, β€œStretch” and β€œWing”, which are roughly the same concept. There are also 3 other base forms, each with their own derivatives, for a total of 10 such structures. Instead of all the forms being side by side, there are 4 base forms, and each of them has a mode that can use a special ability. I think there may have also been the idea of not having simple blue (Technorum Stream), green (Esprim Recovery), and purple (Paradigm Wonder) forms, and keeping only those with weapons or armor attached to their arms and legs. This time, we've created three forms for the Physical Impact form with the same silhouette and different colors only, reflecting the production staff's desire to emphasize the basic design of ZZZ and to make people around the world remember the Masked Rider's stance.

>What about the fact that motorcycles can transform into humanoid robots?

Yanaka: As I said earlier, I think that Masked Rider is a β€œhero who fights on a motorcycle”. However, there was also the opinion that the motorcycle (element) alone was a bit weak in the Rinowa era. So we explored whether we could add additional elements or meanings, and finally came up with the idea that the Commander borrows the form of a robot and that it can transform into a motorcycle as well.

>The point of morphing into a humanoid robot from a motorcycle will remind a lot of fans of 555's Autovajin, I'm sure. Also, ZZZ's body lines glow just like 555's (laughs). Is this a tribute to 555?

Yanaka: It wasn't an intentional homage, but frankly, it was a creative process of thinking about the motorcycle, and it ended up going in the same direction. As for the performance of the rider's body glowing, it was because Supervisor Kamihoriuchu and I saw the vein-like lines on the ZZZ holster and thought, β€œI'd like to make it glow” (laughs), and we thought that the 555's body would glow.

It sounds like they weren't actually against it, and Yanaka backed off simply because he himself realized that wouldn't do well for sales. Yanaka: The early planning meetings were advanced together with Shirakura and Tsukada. When we saw Mr. Yuya (the screenwriter) wrote a memo saying "using the theme of dreams seems good", both of them agreed that this was a crucial point. It's rare for two people with very different styles to agree, so I thought this direction must be right (laughs). Thus, the concept of "dreams as the theme" began.

>Why add the "secret agent" element?
Yanaka: When asking the planning team members "what kind of dreams would you have", we realized that simply using dreams as the theme would be hard to grasp and confusing. So from the start, we knew we needed to combine it with other elements. Although detective or police themes first came to mind, since similar concepts had appeared in previous series, we ultimately chose "secret agents" as a completely new element.

>Features of the dream story and battles?
Yanaka: In Ex-Aid, the method of switching battle scenes through selection of game levels was very successful. The "dream world" itself naturally carries this logic, enabling the story to unfold in a way that immerses and convinces the audience. I think it's analogous to the level selection in Ex-Aid. To highlight the "dream stage" setting, especially in the first episode, we deliberately used camera switches to show completely different scenes.

Yanaka: We partly referenced Den-O's Ryoutarou (laughs). Everyone dreams, but why does the protagonist experience transformations and special events only in his dreams? We think it may be because he is extremely unfortunate in reality -since his hopes in the real world cannot be fulfilled, he becomes a superhero in his dreams. But the reality of the real world is also portrayed seriously. Because It’s a story of the protagonist transforming into Kamen Rider, it naturally produces a certain sense of incongruity compared to usual shows. Therefore, the link between dreams and reality is carefully depicted to avoid rushed worldview explanations. When considering how to attract overseas viewers unfamiliar with Kamen Rider and keep them watching, we ultimately settled on this approach.

>Core focus of global promotion?
Yanaka: Domestic Japanese viewers have a fixed impression of "Kamen Rider", but the proportion of overseas viewers paying attention just because It's a "new work" is not high. The existing overseas audience mainly consists of adults familiar with Japanese tokusatsu. To expand the audience, this time we first pursued a solid storyline, with a somewhat serious dramatic tone. Accordingly, the actors were all chosen for mature acting skills, and audition standards were strictly controlled to maintain quality.

>Finally, a few words to readers please.
Yanaka: After thinking about "what exactly is Kamen Rider", I believe it might be "a lone hero" (though this might be a clichΓ©). The protagonist's only companion is his sister Minami, and the heroine Nem, who is a celebrity, cannot meet him in reality. CODE, as a secret agency, does not fully inform the lower-level secret agent protagonist; only the two members of the Strange Affairs Division bring him information. Even so, the protagonist is still suspected by the police β€”these characters together weave dramatic conflict. It's worth mentioning that Mr. Yuya is quite particular about the "image of the heroine", so please look forward to the storyline centered on Nem. We have always been creating with the question "what is the essence of Kamen Rider" in mind, and with global promotion as our perspective. This is definitely a work worth savoring carefully, so please lend us your full support.

Also an extra bit that was omitted from the interview, right after this paragraph Yanaka says
>We felt that the design in 555 was really cool. During the project's development, after deriving the best solution from many options, we found that the result actually overlapped with existing elements from 555. So, I believe this actually shows that the answers reached by the staff involved in 555 back then were correct (which is why everyone naturally converged on this point).

He's right, aside from kinda Gotchard and Gavv because they fuse with their bikes, none of the Reiwa Rider Machines stand out because of how little they're used, even Revice's Hover bike failed to stand out despite its strong debut due to its lack of usage. I really hope that Yanaka actually manages to achieve constant bike usage, like with workarounds of led sets or because the bike looks simplistic it might bypass bike laws. IIRC with Saber they wanted to put a high focus on all the riders being able to share forms but they ultimately hardly did that because of budget so I hope this isn't such a case.

>is carefully depicted to avoid rushed worldview explanations
I feel with these parts of the interview that Yanaka is really into early Heisei and wants Zeztz to feel a bit similar to that period, I hope this means that early forms aren't abandoned early on and that the worldview has been carefully crafted from the beginning like how they did with Gaim, it would be nice if this means the show will have few rushed plot points and underdeveloped characters.

>>23474613
I hadn't realized that the cops aren't interested in Baku because he was a lead but rather because he's a suspect, the dynamic sounds interesting but also sounds like something that could get draggy, I hope they mange to make it work.
>Mr. Yuya is quite particular about the "image of the heroine"
I wonder what this means since I never got the impression that Yuya was into female riders, since from what I understood the only female rider that was solely his idea out of the 3 shows he's done is Lopo. So I wonder if by this he means that Nem will be really useful/developed despite not being a rider, extremely coomerbait or both like most of Arakawa's heroines. I wonder if Yanaka will put a female rider on the show, because apparently it's something that the established western audience cares about but not necessarily the one that they want to expand to.

I'm surprised that they managed to make the concept of "the protagonist being part of an organization" seem lonely, it does feel like an element that might dissappear in the second half if Baku gets a higher position on the organization, the cops realize his true nature and Minami becomes the agent of Nem. This focus on solitude makes me wonder how Nox will even work as a secondary, in practice he feels "what if the Kujaku Undead or Horobi became the Secondary rider" which is weird since while we've had asshole and villainous secondary riders before I don't think we've had the initial main antagonist become a secondary, I assume Dark Zeztz will the over the Nightmares in Q2 which will lead to Nox becoming a Rider but I still wonder how will his dynamic with Baku even work. Also how the hell will Dark Zeztz even look since Zeztz already has a lot of black and Yezz's Rival form already looks like an evil Zeztz.

Yeah, him and Shirakura-P are the leaders of the Character Strategy division and oversee every toku that Toei makes, Takahashi-P also got promoted but I don't know what the hell does now, Hikasa-P is the one that's mostly retired, the most he's done since Akibaranger was producing the Blade Anniversary Stage Show.
IIRC since Tsukada-P was promoted back in Fourze some of his contributions have been
>He gave Omori-P Riku Sanjo's contact because Omori-P wanted him to write Kyoryuger
>Made the pilot for a new TTFC called GYARAS
>During the Ryusoulger to Donbrothers period where promoted producers served as chief producers for Sentai as an attempt to revive interest on the IP he served as the chief producer of Kiramager

It's weird that Takahashi was the one who picked the dream motif since usually writers don't come up with such big aspects of the setting, in all 3 of his previous seasons the initial worldview was thought off by the producer alone. Also am I reading this wrong or is this implying that the reason the pick Takahashi was the same reason Komura was picked for LuPat?, basically the writer had come up with a setting idea for a different motif that didn't get picked, so the chief producer who had the writer's contact hired them again to use their scrapped idea.
I think Riku Sanjo and Naruhisa Arakawa were the only times a writer wasn't picked again despite Toei doing a show with a scrapped motif that they were initially planning to work on.

what's the general consensus on the original series? I'm about 23 episodes in and I don't like Hayato, his Rider outfit, or the club characters nearly as much as I liked the trio of Hongo, Tachibana, and Ruriko. Obviously Tachibana is still good, and I think Taki is a fun inclusion to the cast. I miss that original suit though
Anonymous No.23475512
>>23475424
That it's "good", because of how unplanned Hayato's inclusion was for his first 12 episodes you can feel that the staff has no idea on what they're doing. The show gets better later but then you get the same feeling of "the staff doesn't know what to do" once Takeshi becomes the protagonist again, and then it goes back to being good again later.
So overall the show isn't bad but it just has wa to many production issues and inconsistencies in its tone to truly be great.
Anonymous No.23475517

I think there was definitely a lot of wheel-spinning in the original show because the entire thing was a fly-by-night production - Toei was only ever really doing cop dramas and pulp dramas by that point. Especially at your point in the show, that was only a couple months after they had to change a lot of plans after Fujioka broke his leg. Something you're gonna notice as well is they will repeat a lot of episode plots where a scientist or kid gets kidnapped, I can tell you now a good chunk of these you can just skip to the big fight of the episode and you won't miss much.
