>[Kamen Rider Zeztz Ryoutaro Imai interview: I worry about how my English pronunciation will be received overseas]
https://tieba.baidu.com/p/10009098905

The title "Invincible Agent" evokes images of sheer power, but Imai stated that while capturing this "invincible" quality, he also focused on creating the image of a wise and gentlemanly agent.
>"Baku's character isn't a cocky persona, but rather a polite agent. His gentle qualities, his interactions with women, and his dialogue all embody a unique, invincible charm. I thoroughly researched how to portray this invincibility and focused on these aspects when crafting the character."

It's reported that the unique sense of composure exuded by Banjinmo was inspired by classic spy films and hardcore anime.
>"I studied the character by watching Mission: Impossible and Lupin the Third, hoping to incorporate their essence into the portrayal of Baku Yorozu. Mission: Impossible protagonist Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has a very handsome and charming ease, while Lupin the Third's demeanor and demeanor when interacting with women, such as giving flowers, are full of romance."

>>23497253
In addition, Imai and lead director Kamihoriuchi also conducted in-depth discussions on Baku's calm qualities, constantly honing the demeanor of this invincible agent.
>"At first, I thought it was challenging to portray the agent in the dream world, but as I gradually mastered the essentials after studying other handsome characters, I began to find Baku in the real world even more difficult to grasp... (laughs). We hope to make the character grow even better through our joint efforts."

>Suit actor Kenta Nitta plays the character of Kamen Rider Zeztz, after Baku's transformation. Imai, who took on the challenge of voicing the transformed character, explained that adding voice acting to every battle would have lacked momentum, so he and Nitta agreed to only include the character's voice acting during powerful attacks. Watanabe, who collaborated with Nitta on Zeztz action design, enthusiastically stated, "Zeztz battles in the dream world employ unprecedented combat styles, imbued with a unique charm."

"Kamen Rider Zeztz" has been confirmed to be the first in the series to achieve a simultaneous global release, with plans for television and online broadcasts in several Asian countries and United States. A notable feature of the series is the line "I'm on it" spoken in English during Baku's transformation, a departure from the performance style of previous installments.
Lead actor Imai admitted to the challenges of delivering his English lines: >"The producer would give me on-site guidance, saying things like 'You can adjust this better,' and then, when I pronounced correctly, they'd say, 'That's great!' Every time I spoke in English, filming was incredibly challenging."
He also revealed his concerns about how international audiences would react to his English pronunciation.

However, Imai firmly stated:
>"It is a delight and honor that the historic Kamen Rider series can be broadcast overseas. I will also work hard to create excellent works that can convey the charm of "Zeztz" to overseas audiences."
"Kamen Rider Zeztz", which will premiere on the 7th of this month, makes him feel a sense of mission:
>"If I am not focused enough on the set, it will affect the entire team. Therefore, I will always make it my top priority to maintain a sense of tension and continue to meet the challenges of filming."
Despite the anxiety and pressure, Imai will still take on this grand "mission" as the leading actor in the coming year.

The vibe I got from Yanaka's interview is that they designed the suit first, then the dream setting.
Basically they wanted to make it clear to newcomers to the franchise what Kamen Rider was so he decided on making a modern iteration of Kamen Rider Ichigo that had form changes like Kuuga/Den-O, then the first draft Bandai gave to him had the belt in the torso and he just stuck with it but had to create a gimmick item because he then realized that the show wouldn't generate much sales otherwise.
He then saw a story draft for a Kamen Rider with dream powers made by Yuya Takahashi and decided to pick him as the main writer and the dream motif as part of the setting, but said they needed something else to make it cohesive, then someone (I assume Minato?) came up with the spy stuff.

This show sounds like a disaster in the making. If MinatoP is really weighing (plus Takahashit as the main writer), this is going to be another Revice/Gotchard/Geats. Sounds like another show with too many cooks and another dubious attempts at astroturfing Western interest. You'd think they learned their lesson with Black Sun.

The suit specifically? I think it's just that it's a muscle suit like a Western comic character which doesn't really work with Rider's aesthetic.
It has this weird vibe of being simultaneously "too different" and "not different enough." Because while the Western influence is a bit too thick on the suit itself, the motif and design is just yet another rehash of Rider 1.
Anonymous No.23497858 >>23497870

I didn't get that from the interviews we've seen, honestly.
What it read like to me was that they wanted a "easy to get into" Rider for international audiences, design was settled on first (as always), belt settled on next (reasons in a previous thread), and then they got writer-san's script and let Minato do Minato things.
The only things that stand out compared to previous seasons is the deliberate international push, and we may or may not be at the mercy of Minato's odd decisions.

Except that it isn't like any of the show's you described.
With Revice the problem is that while Mochizuki is really good at coming up with ideas and casting he hires writers based on how edgy they are and the one he picked, Kinoshita was a bad writer that he gave too much freedom.
With Gotchard the problem was that Minato wanted to be as safe as possible and ultimately his first draft was so generic that he was assigned a second writer then the vice producer Matsuura partially took over assigned a third writer because Minato wasn't coming up with many ideas.
We have no way of knowing if the show is going to be like Geats yet, the problem there was that Takebe changed the plans for the show without any preparation and delayed the toys which led to the second half being worse.
We don't know what caused the issues of Black Sun, like yeah people say western politics but if you watch the show that's the least of its issues, my only theories as to what led to that shitfest of a finale was that either Amazon forced them to put a sequel hook or that the writer just wanted to be tragic without any setup.

Zeztz's situation is like an in-between of Ryusoulger's and King-Ohger's situations. Just like Ryusoulger, Zeztz has a drama producer that had only worked on toku as an AP with a hated toku producer as VP, only that unlike Ryusoulger Yanaka's experience with toku is far more recent and that since Ryusoulger whenever they bring a producer from another division they have them work as an AP for toku again for a year to get them used to things again. This is similar to King-Ohger in the sense that the show has multiple VPs with a longer pre-production time while aiming to be more mature (in this case because most of the international toku fan base are adults).
Anonymous No.23497870 >>23497991
So I watched Paprika the other day for the first time and I fear that Zeztz won't be able to achieve anything close to its surrealness. It's weird because I feel that Kazuya Kamihoriuchi and Tomo Hyakutake which this show has are the right people to make something close to Paprika but so far the action shots shown feel too standard I guess, at least they aren't a slow-mo galore like King-Ohger I guess?

>>23497858
Except that none of the interviews have stated what Minato, Sota or Ahagon have done for the show and unlike Gotchard we know that Yanaka, Takahashi, Bandai and Kami came up with most of the important stuff. We only assume that Minato came up with the toys and the idea of spies because the toyline is similar to Gotchard and because Minato was the only one besides Takahashi and Murase that talked in detail about the spy stuff, so it's safe to assume that he was the one who proposed the idea, if not him then Takahashi. Point is, it doesn't seem like Yanaka will be like Minato where he leaves the important decisions to other people while limiting the staff's creative choices as much as possible. Yanaka also mentioned that he wants to take as much time to develop the world in a way that doesn't feel cheap, like King-Ohger so that's probably why we have 3 vice producers.

>>23497828
It's mostly that people think it's too soon for another Takahashi show or for another Ichigo homage, rather than the show itself looking bad. The people that are acting as if this show is irredeemable from the get-go are just the falseflaggers that pretend that Takahashi is both the worst and best thing that has happened to Rider.

You need to realize that this season is supposed to be both a good introduction for newcomers overseas while also being a good new entry for the established Japanese fanbase. To them, Shin Kamen Rider and kind of Build were already a "back to basics" and not that long ago, and also the staffs usually like trying different things, even Zeztz's producer said that if this show wasn't an introduction to overseas fans he would have picked something trendy in Japan similarly as to how Gavv picked snacks, to Yanaka the most important thing when it came to representing Kamen Rider was the design and the sense of "loneliness" apparently.

Anon by default this will be better than most western media that's being released these days, aside from A24 and Zach from WKUK, there's no one making stuff, it's not like the western audience will care whether they're referencing the original or not because they aren't aware of the original series, it's not like every Rider season is like the original and the already established western fanbase mostly just cares about the action being cool and the story being dark.
Zeztz will fail in the west but it will not be for the retarded reasons you're implying but rather because of how it's being distributed and the Poor marketing. The only way I could see Zeztz getting some proper traction in the west is if some famous non-toku youtuber covers it but that's really unlikely.

Oh, I agree with that. That's why I said there isn't much different compared to previous seasons other than the international push. I wouldn't be surprised if Minato was the one who pushed for spy stuff, but I also don't think it would matter as much as the decisions by the other people you listed. Climax Heroes was fun, the devs from those games were pretty creative, they made the recent Hunter x Hunter game which also has creatively tight gimmicks but that HxH game sucks because it cost 60$ despite having a miniscule roster with hardly any content. And it's not like they can use their base of Super Climax Heroes anymore due to it being outdated, so unless they're given Battride War and Climax Fighter assets which would still require them to do a lot of stuff from scratch, they would need a big budget to make a good Rider fighting game sadly.

Just reuse assets from Climax Scramble and adapt the game to be a 2D fighter, that way they'll have all Heisei protagonists and late Heisei secondaries done except for Geiz, meaning that they would only need to make the protagonists and secondaries from Reiwa, so 14 new characters which still sounds like a lot I guess.

I think the biggest hurdle is that due to Riders centering on form changes it exponentially increases the dev time for each character. W is relatively simple on assets alone due to forms being palette swaps but even then it requires a minimum of 3 different movesets for just the core forms. It's not just development but balance.

I suppose that a practical middle ground would be for it to work like Gem Fighter where form changes are just singular moves and then the Rider goes back to their main form.
Anonymous No.23498112
>>23498065
Yeah, even if that would obviously be kind of lame, I can't see how a Rider fighting game would work otherwise. If you had actually to balance the game around form changes, it would be like making a fighting game where most of the characters are overly complex stance characters, which would be a pain in the ass not only for the developers to work on, like you said, but for the players to actually play the game. It's like if 80% of Tekken's roster were Lei-tier stance characters that nobody would want to learn or play.

So the CD drama came out and some Twitter users have already put up reviews for it. It was written by Suga's actor himself with supervision from Komura, and it's divided in 3 parts:
>First part consists of Suga having one last conversation with Nyelv after his defeat, in which he reminisces about his test subjects, his personal beliefs, and his scientific philosophy
>Second part involves Suga's surgery on himself to use the Bakemagnum, he also talks to the 2 Shouma clones he made near the end of Q2 in it
>Third part involves Suga and Nyelv's first meeting

The most important bits I could gather from the reviews were the following:
>Suga did in fact experiment on a few more people than he remembered, there weren't 8 but rather 11 test subjects before Hanto, who was the 12th
>The 8th test subject was his assistant
>it's not directly stated, but it's implied that the 1st test subject was his wife
>Suga, while sounding like he's repressing his emotions, says some people sacrifice everything for something other than themselves, and that the first test subject was someone like that. This implies his wife willingly agreed to be experimented on, and that Suga feels sad about her sacrifice
>Suga performed his own transformation surgery by himself, apparently without anesthesia, and he listened to Brahms' lullaby during it since it served as a sedative for his body and mind. He still felt a lot of pain though and was biting on a towel throughout the procedure
>Suga apparently put some effort into keeping his identity a secret, he tells the Dark Shoumas to not call him "Kenzo" or "Suga" and he published a book on unidentified lifeforms under the pseudonym "Daigo Koichi" (name's apparently also a pun related to taste)
>he and Nyelv first met when the latter came to kill him because he was researching the Granutes and knew too much about them, they struck up a conversation and ended up bonding over their shared interest in mad science or something

(1/2)

Cont.
>not sure if this person was just speculating and having fujo delusions or if it's actually in the CD drama, but a user said Suga was researching the ultimate lifeform because of his feelings for Nyelv? And that Suga avoided showing his surgery scars when Hanto exposed his tummy to see if he was a Granute? Though this second one doesn't make much sense considering Suga only receives the second Granute organ after that scene, so either the user doesn't remember the show well or it's a plot hole
>apparently Suga's baby and K aren't brought up, at least not directly

Hope someone subs, even though it still leaves the most important parts of Suga's backstory pretty vague, which is kinda disappointing.

It's written by Riku Sanjo, who was the head writer of the W TV show, so it's tonally consistent and actually canon. Being in a manga/anime format opens it up to wilder Dopant concepts and more mature content. The anime is good, as is the companion movie that expands on the Begins Night/Skull story. The manga unfortunately and inexplicably doesn't have an official English translation and scanlations are way behind.

The reason is basically that when Toei gave licensing for rights of the Kuuga Manga so that it could get an official translation, the quality was so bad that the translation company had to recall the international volume releases, costing them a lot of money. So after that Toei got disillusioned and never tried translating more Manga into English.
As for fan translations the Manga was picked up by subber group known as Genm Corp, while the actual subber from the group were competent enough, the leader of the group was a egotistical asshole who would drop projects early on and treat the members like shit, on top of that he would harass anyone that tried subbing something the group had started, even if they hadn't continued subbing the projects for years, to this guy basically prevented any english fan translations and no 4chan subber has decided to pick any Kamen Rider manga aside from Shin Spirits whose translations are going slow. The subbers from Genm Corp left the guy so the group is basically dead now but from my understanding the guy keeps harassing people, but I don't know if that's actually true or not, he might have just quit internet.

Only Hyper Clock Up, which I actually never cared much for. They attempt to have this psychological battle with Kabuto and Dark Kabuto reading each other, but in the end Tendo winning by "surprising" him with sudden Hyper Clock up doesn't feel satisfying at all.

The only thing that really countered Hyper Clock up was time stop. Really, Dark Kabuto should have had Rider and Hyper forms, not Masked, and the final few worms should have been able to go Hyper too.

Part of an interview with Mr. Ryutaro Imai, who plays Baku, and Ms. Maho Horiguchi, who plays Nemu

>Kamen Rider is often filmed in the morning. Do you have any tips for waking up early?
Imai: I always tell myself, "If I'm not at the set, the shooting can't start". Now I'm stronger in the mornings and can wake up normally.
Horiguchi: I've never liked mornings. I really can't wake up early. But since we started filming this, I've gotten a lot better. I set my alarm about 15 times every morning.
>Fifteen times?
Horiguchi: I usually wake up the first time but end up going back to sleep. I really get up around the third alarm! (laughs)
>Have you watched Kamen Rider series before?
Horiguchi: I have a younger brother, so I've seen it here and there. I especially like Kamen Rider Wizard and Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. I'm really happy that the script for Zeztz was written by Yuya Takahashi, who also wrote for Ex-Aid.
Imai: I watched Kamen Rider W, and I especially liked Philip.
>The costumes in this show are excellent. Can you tell us what you especially like?
Imai: I like the "form-fitting" shirts a lot.
>Actually, Baku is a good-looking young man (talking about himself), quite ordinary, but in his dreams, his body looks a bit more muscular.
Imai: That's right. I like that the costume was designed deliberately to look form-fitting. For example, the printed patterns, ring, and ear covers are packed with elements that guys like. When he becomes an agent, his hair "spikes up," so he has to style it every time, which is something cute in itself.
>I've heard that Nemu, played by Ms. Horiguchi, is created to take on various roles in people's dreams.
Horiguchi: My makeup and costumes are created to fit the dream world of each person. I think you'll see many different sides of Nemu. And importantly, today's costume is my favorite. I especially like the bag; I take care of it like a partner.

>Kamen Rider Zeztz also appears in the movie "Kamen Rider Gavv the Movie: The Sweet House Invasion". How has the reception been after it's release?
Imai: I've received a lot of positive messages. The transformation looks really cool, right? I'm very happy everyone got to see it early. But when filming with senior actors like Yusuke Hino (Hanto), I worried they might say, "This transformation probably wouldn't work!" (laughs) I was a bit worried because we shot at locations different from usual, but the crew worked together very smoothly.
>Did you talk with Kenta Nitta, the suit actor who plays Kamen Rider Zeztz, about the transformation scenes?
Imai: We mainly talked about his posture as an agent and what happens after the transformation. We discussed details like "How will he fight?" and "How should we record his voice?" to build this character. In that sense, I think "Kamen Rider Zeztz" is actually created by two people.
>Is there anything about director Kamihoriuchi's directing that impressed you?
Imai: The most memorable moment was the first time I read the script. I have to thank director Kamihoriuchi for making me reaffirm the love put into the work and the importance of the character Baku. During the shoot after that, he told me, "He's a cool guy, so try acting cool!" I really appreciated that.

>What was the most challenging part of your acting?
Imai: Given the setting of a "flawless spy", I struggled with the question, "What kind of acting would be best?" Just being cool alone doesn't make anyone "flawless". Baku often says, "In my dreams, I'm flawless". So, "flawless" is the key theme. Expressing that flawlessness and making it look like he can never lose was very difficult.
Horiguchi: This is my first time being a regular cast member. There are many things I didn't know about acting, but Kamihoriuchi taught me everything from script reading. He enthusiastically coached me on how to play this role, even after shooting ended. One of his lines to me was, "Only you can play Nemu, so you have to give it your all to make it the best." That made me feel like I really had to work hard, so I always kept that in mind during filming.
>Now that the series is about to air, what do you two think is the highlight of the first episode?
Horiguchi: Definitely the battles that happen only in the dream world are a highlight. At the same time, the drama of the real world is also portrayed interestingly. I think viewers will enjoy both worlds.
Imai: I want you to pay attention especially to the beginning of "Kamen Rider Zeztz", like "how he transforms and why". I'd also be glad if you notice the differences between how the dream and reality are presented.
>Is it necessary to act differently in the dream scenes and the real-world scenes?
Imai: For example, Baku's interactions with people change between the dream and real worlds, and his behavior changes as well. He is completely a different character in the dream and in reality. However, the core essence of his character remains the same. I hope you enjoy this world of the work through Baku's role.

Thank you for posting this, when was the last time we got a CD Drama this substantial? It's so weird that it was written by Suga's actor himself, because that would imply that neither Komura, Takebe or Takijima intended to explore his backstory which is perplexing.
With his backstory not being combat focused this would have been perfect as a blu-ray mini-series like the ones Taiga, Gentoku and Logos got for example, I don't get why Takebe prefers the blu-ray extras simply being the cast doing funny hijinks when they already do that on those TTFC extras.

>If coffee is a poison, it is a slow poison.
(This phrase actually has a true story behind it. In the late 18th century, the Swedish King Gustav III, wanting to study the effects of coffee on human health, planned an experiment aimed at proving that coffee was harmful.
He ordered two twin brothers who had been sentenced to death to be the test subjects. Their death sentences were commuted to life imprisonment on the condition that one of them drink three pots of tea daily, while the other drink three pots of coffee every day. The king appointed two doctors to monitor the experiment and report their findings to him.
Unfortunately, before the experiment was completed, both doctors passed away. The king himself was assassinated in 1792 and never saw the results of the experiment. Of the two convicts, the tea drinker died first at the age of 83, while the death date of the coffee drinker is unknown.
Using this story as a title essentially implies that, like this experimental king, Suga died before he could witness or learn the results of his own experiments.)

I love Ex-Aid and build but I do kind of disagree with this, I think Ex-Aid kind of loses the plot with the reset and revival. You can say what you will about the tail end of Build getting a little repetitive but hey, at least it's Evolt the whole time and Evolt is cool.
Obviously this comes down to personal preference, but speaking as someone else who loves Ex-Aid thats why I kind of ultimately prefer Build.
Also I get really upset when shows totally waste their secondary so that's another issue I have with Ex-Aid, but I kind of just pretend Snipe is the secondary so it's fine.

Well, when Frappe Custom debuted it was revealed that Suga's actor had been given a setting memo about the character by Komura to base his performance on. Presumably, Asanuma also based at least part of the CD Drama's story on this memo, but it is weird that they left it up to him instead of the show's head writer (even though she still supervised).

I can recommend Zero-One and Saber. Saber does start pretty bad though, it's worth sticking with but the first dozen episodes are rough. It has a good message and the finale is great. Zero-One's pretty solid overall with a good cast and story. The tournament arc in the middle of the show is fucking dogshit even though it introduces a fun character for the rest of the show.

Gavv is a good season, has some detractors because it starts as some of the best Rider's ever been but doesn't maintain that momentum, just ending up being a good season.
Geats is generally looked on favorably but some people don't like the final portions.
Zero-One was fairly good but it got buttfucked by lockdown retooling forcing the last portion to be rushed and an extremely bad arc across 10 episodes in the middle of the series.

So there hasn't yet been any series in Reiwa with as positive a reception as the high points in Heisei but there's still some good stuff. I think it's more a testament to how strong Phase 2 Heisei was overall.

Every show has a high quantity of toys, even more so than before, it's not like Sentai or Rider will ever stop being toy commercials. That's said Gavv and seemingly the upcoming season Zeztz are closer to seasons from W to Gaim in terms of toy shilling.
Ex-Aid, Build and Gavv are pretty beloved seasons overall, Ex-Aid and Build do pick in their first half, in Gavv's case I the first quarter, but manage to stay consistently entertaining from beginning to end.
Drive has a slow start and Saber has a bad start, but both improve drastically after their first quarter and end up being really entertaining overall, so if you're patient I recommend those two too.
Zero-One and Geats have amazing action and direction, plus some really cool concepts, but as a whole product while overall good they're really flawed due to the producers doing some really dumb decisions that led the show astray and the rest of the staff not being able to do enough to make up for it. But they're still a fun time I'd say, just go with lower expectations.
Zi-O is really poorly written but is considered fun if you want a "turn your brain off" type show, make that as you will.
Gotchard is extremely average, the producer tried being extremely safe which dragged the show drastically and makes it not stand out that much.
Ghost and Revice are bad, the only silver lining I can give is that Ghost has some reall
really good emotional moments that are enhanced by the side material which is are mostly great and that Revice's first half, mainly the first 18 episodes are really great, but the second half for a lot of people ruined the rest of the show and makes it worse on a re-watch.

Black Sun is a fun time until the last episode which kind of ruins the whole show, ultimately it's up to you whether to decide if 1 episode is enough to make a show feel like a waste of time, if not you'll probably enjoy it.
Shin Kamen Rider feels clunky but it was reworked into a miniseries which turns it into a pretty great project.
Fuuto PI is mostly done by the same staff as W despite being an anime, and the animation staff is really passionate about the project, so chances are that if you liked W you'll most likely also enjoy Fuuto PI.

Nearly every Reiwa show (Zero-One, Revice, Geats, Gavv) starts great but declines in quality starting from Q2. The only exceptions are Saber, which has a weak start but increases in quality starting from Q2, and Gotchard, which has a weak start and end but is mostly mediocre for most of its run. Every show has great action, with Geats and Gavv having the most consistent, creative and over the top fight scenes courtesy of their action director Satoshi Fujita.

The ones I personally recommend are Saber and Gavv. Although Gavv does decline in quality, it doesn't fall off nearly as badly as the other shows, even after it enters its lull it's still pretty decent with a few great episodes here and there until the last 10 or so episodes, which are kinda weak. And despite Saber having a rocky start (there's some good episodes in there though), afterwards it's consistently really good (outside of two badly paced and directed episodes in the middle) and it has constant highs, ending with what is in my opinion one of the best final arcs in the franchise.

I'm not even sure why he's doing this before the show is even out, wouldn't he have a better case if the first episode aired, which would guarantee the concept is close to his? Without Zeztz itself not being out yet I'm not sure if the Japanese will even bother supporting him.

Dude needs to watch more stuff. Someone transforming into a superhero in a dream isn't new. The key characteristic here is the belt and suit but that's just a detail that's interchangeable with any other gimmick. Toei being Toei locks that detail in and I'd be surprised as fuck if they haven't had proposals for a dream rider in all these decades when we just finished up a snack rider.

The best ending out of all Rider shows so far was Blade. Kenzaki proves to be a true hero and sacrifices himself in a way that no one ever asked him to do. By far the most noble end.

Second is Kiva; that final battle with the Dark Rider deprived of his Rider form and reverting to a second kaijin form was awesome, followed by that wild ending with Kiva III and Neo-Fangires, papa!

Den-O and Kabuto get honorable mentions.
Kuuga, Agito are good, but pretty standard. Kuuga's final battle in particular is stellar.
Ryuki and Faiz's endings were a little depressing; Decade doesn't fucking have an ending, Hibiki got ruined by Kiriya.
Double was kinda ruined by Philip coming back to life.
Reiwa endings are all boring shit, and Zeztz will be, too. They don't have any bite anymore.

I watched the Blade movie recently and I thought it was really cool that they used the fact that it was an AU like the Ryuki and Faiz movies to basically indicate that sealing Hajime would lead to a "bad end" of sorts. Where each person is at in their life when the movie starts just feels wrong for them, and of course even though Hajime is unsealed his life has to be sacrificed to save the day. Even though the movie has its own resolution, I like that it backs up Kenzaki's choice to become an Undead as the best solution.

Mutsuki is a wageslave with PTSD, Kotaro became a snobby rich guy, Kenzaki's a garbage man, and Tachibana has had to continue fighting without the others for four years. Aside from that, the two new riders also get straight-up murdered. It's obviously not as bleak as Paradise Lost, but I definitely think it's a bad end compared to series Blade.

>Kenzaki's a garbage man
Better than being literally homeless and away from his friends.
>Tachibana has had to continue fighting without the others for four years
That's pretty much how he ends up in the regular timeline.
>Aside from that, the two new riders also get straight-up murdered
They could be dead in the regular timeline for all we know.

In the end, whether it's Kenzaki or Hajime who sacrifices himself, things don't really end up better or worse for anyone either way. Hajime might be free in the canon timeline, but everyone lost Kenzaki in exchange.
