I hate Care Package as a vehicle but I do appreciate Care Package as the representation of how the gay community consistently stabs itself in the back trying to be the gayest possible for all the attention it brings. When you really think about it, Soarin's attempt to live a quiet life with Braeburn is Tamers' manifestation of the idealized homosexual lifestyle, where a couple simply "is" without being in the spotlight. Being an intellectual, I've finally overcome the cringe of the "infection" title and watched the video. It was very hard to watch, and also, I've decided, retroactively very good.

At 7 minutes I was sure that tamers couldn't possibly keep up this pacing and still present a coherent story, and I was half half right.The story does slow down by the time we're in the magic-hole and the Celestia-handing-out-rocks scene absolutely bodies the speed at which things are happening. The rock scene pretty clearly called back to the scene with the infinite staircase, or to the same kinds of tendencies. It was a problem literally just introduced with a solution which was just introduced which was justified by taking way longer than necessary and being a pain in the ass, and which was immediatly removed from the screen, potentially to never be seen again.

The scene also manages to suggest that the combination of lunar+solar alicorn magic is extremely potent, which foreshadows soarin's power, sort of, if we take for granted that he's the sky/ the new twilight in the first place.

The broken rock-amulet was a very very clear checkovs gun, to the point where the movie was basically making a point about it being a checkov's gun. That's meta, a bit, but also means the movie is now at least partially about the expectations baked into good storytelling and the disappointment and annoyance (or at least flaws) which these expectations and demands breed by being so predictable and structured.

The ted talk scene was weird. I was, at first, excited that tamers was just opening up with the setting of a ted talk, but then I realized he was ACTUALLY doing a ted talk, which was WAY less funny. This can be related to the theming I just explained with the rock amulets. The very first frame of the video spawns a series of expectations which are cool and then drags you through the actual implementation of those expectations when taken seriously.

Care package is being a 5 star hater, and it is basically required at this point that this be a central conflict. It's already been implied previously, and there's basically no other way to reasonably force this scene into the story.

A fictional character is an idea. The contain a series of hypothetical values and strategies which an artist will shove through a series of events. If the character dies, it means their ideas were not sufficient for the scenario.

How Tamers depicted Care Package irreversible ruined him for me, how can anyone still like him after his goal was to kill basically everyone in the most brutal way? That sounds more abstract than it is. For example, when you cross the road, you look both ways. You do this because you can imagine a version of you who does not look both ways, and that version of you dies often. You then decide not to be that version, which means the fictional version of you actually did die, and its lesson was consumed by you, the ideal you, who you chose to be.

So, while a human on earth might need to be fucked in the head in a coherently incoherent way in order to properly generate and then execute on the motivation to kill, care package does not. He just has to present the right traits and archetypes which let us understand the idea which he is, even thorough the flaws.

Instead, murder isn't much more than just dabbing but spicy and hard.
Applebottom's parents were shitty ideas, so they got dabbed on, and then dabbed on super hard with dicks and dirt.

That's what care package is wearing when he gets dabbed in the chest. Pretty obvious why.
At the time in which that happens, he has just been shown a moment in his past in which he behaved impulsively, despite a "lack of a heart". He also kills applebottom, despite the dramatic procrastination (or perhaps savoring). The very last thing he did was say that he would repeat the same action infinitely. He admits he doesn't really know why he does it, but suggests sexual gratification. Once it is over, he lays down to rest with applebottom, admitting, at least, that he still wishes to spend time with him, which is as close to regret as we're getting. It's also a minor visual metaphor for "laying down to rest," meaning that once there's nothing left to do, the idea "care package" is also defeated, essentially killed.

He completely embraces his interpretation of his nature, using it as its own justification. He also said he didn't have a real reason to heckle the ted talk earlier. He's creating an idea of "what is" in a hopeless sense.

This only really makes sense when contrasted with soarin. Soarin gives him another applebottom, and he says he'll just do the same thing again.

Soarin is offered a power limited only by his imagination. Symbolically, he is given both light and dark, which is both change and continuation. The only thing he has to do to win is to imagine. His exact power is to cross the street, die, and then decide not to cross the street so that he doesn't die. Soarin is the idea of having ideas, idealism. The last important thing he does is remove himself from the world, see the result, and decide not to remove himself from the world. He does this for a completely selfish reason: braeburn's cute face.

So that's the conflict between him and care package, and that's why care package gets another chance.

Soarin is scared he'll hurt braeburn. Care package will kill applebottom. Killing applebottom is the same as bringing the idea of applebottom to its logical conclusion and then absorbing its idea. Soarin decided to break up with braeburn and stay away until the end of time.

Soarin leaves braeburn forever = care package brains and kills applebottom = the rock amulet fucking explodes and kills the stupid mare who's wearing it because OBVIOUSLY

Those are all OBVIOUSLY how those stories would end. There's nothing else that could have possibly happened. The mare will only explode. The package will only stab the bottom. The soarin will only harm the braeburn.

But those are lies, lies told by self hatred as it mutters madly and pledges to kill you over and over and over. They are lies, lies which become lies in the face of an idea who's only trait is to feel nothing. Hypothetically, every soarin who wasn't good enough died, until one rose to the challenge, because that was inevitable. It's the only way a story could be told.

So that's why applebottom is alive again, because it would be a contradiction for applebottom to die, but the relationship with braeburn to live. To believe thing can maybe, just maybe, be good for soarburn, is to imply that applepackage also deserves another spin.

The last thing he did last episode was realize that carepackage was a weak and desperate liar who could be forced into submission and who could not be allowed to lead them without descending into cackling madness which didn't really satisfy either of them properly.
His best moment was grabbing package by his stupid head and pulling him away from cousin braeburn.

However, it isn't really necessary that applebottom be 100% on his game and able to avoid getting crushed with a fucking rock like a retard, because he's a retard. He answered "yes plz fucking crush my head daddy" and then nothing surprising happened. Because OBVIOUSLY, right? Just like with the rest of the obvious examples.

It also fits in with the general theme of all tamers content that characters perpetually backslide while keeping only the most minimal amount of character development because change is fucking hard.

The scene where braeburn if ecstatic to magic and apple into existence was fire in my veins. He's like a fucking puppy. It was a completely necessary conclusion to the story, because the weapon which let soarin defeat his inner demons and ignore their doubts and lies was braeburn's stupid face. The answer to nihlism and an empty heart is, as always, "Holy shit is that a kitty?" and "wait a moment my heart actually does have stuff when did that happen"

The derpy/wheelchair scene was similarly good.

So, with this movie out, the death of trixie lulamoon makes more sense.
This stallion episode offers context which makes that mare episode better.

Trixie and soarin both ascended to a form of godhood. Both involve the direct implementation of their imagination and a trip to an empty universe followed by a return to reality fueled only be their connection to another person. Both are guided into this by a fucked up version of themselves mixed with other people and both are forced aggressively into this through conflict with a dark reflection of themselves with a tighter grasp on reality than their own, though still flawed. Both episode involved a mission from celestia. Luna contributes indirectly, by one being in space and the other having those rocks.

The mare episode was confusing enough that the visuals could be taken as the whole product, a mere reference to an anime. It was disarming, and unserious, as mare episodes are. At best, the description of the return to normal reality sounded a lot like the return to normal reality in shattered harmony. Given all three episodes, we now have a progression.

SH: exposition over silly crayon drawings
DoTl: a reference animated with some effort and a separate, more detailed explanation of how reality was recreated as well as characterization reasons why reality would do that
MLPtM:I: such extensive explanation of the mechanics of godhood that it appears unwieldy and flawed and the recipient is still treated as basically just a normal person, and it doesn't even have to be explained after the fact.

By extension of these comparisons, trixie's line "I'm not like you" actually was the focus of the conflict, which isn't quite how I interpreted it originally. I was under the impression it was bullshit, but not a lie. Trixie is unmoored, and was about to be literally unmoored from reality. She played her part in the act, as follows the understandable rules of her persona given to her by mary. It's not that she does or doesn't believe that she's inherently different from twilight, but that she doesn't possess the tools to make the distinction. I was under the impression that she said that as an excuse, and that the godhood/void scene was a reflection of her total disconnect from all the world now that her family is all gone. I thought twilight replaced that family, and so regrounded trixie with a less shitty family narrative and past/future. That's correct, but not the correct framing.

Meanwhile, soarin/hoodie/package are also consumed with a belief in their own incapability, eventually solved by an emotional appeal. This was already covered, but the similarity is the lack of belief in self, which implies that trixie was less arbitrarily resolving a conflict with bullshit, and more actively pushing towards the belief in herself as gross sick slime. The negative self image was the point, and the patricide was the byproduct.

In SH, cadence snowballs for a week and holds the world in her hoof. She asks luna a question which basically means luna has to say the right thing or everyone dies. She's being asked if she cares for celestia.

Trixie has to decide to act on her care for twilight. Luna is forced to admit her love for celestia. Soarin eventually chooses his love of breaburn.
Therefore
Soarin has to believe in himself enough to try to make a working relationship, and so does trixie, and so does cadence.

Cadence, despite clearly feeling very strongly, is taking the side of and directly offering nihlism.
Soarin is in in internal conflict and then talks himself back out of it.
Trixie just acts on nihlism and murder and then gets talked back into being normal.

The empowered character went from threat to passive to activly fixing things

And so a framework by which to actually empathize with godhood cadence and trixie has been provided.
By some implication, a set of potentially wrong assumptions can now be made about care package.

The line "I want to learn to choose soarin" or "love soarin" or whatever now serves as a lead-in to all these movies. All these characters have a default set of instincts which are leading them down depressed and hopeless paths full of self-hatred, and they present variations on the challenge of escaping one's habits and the influence of one's darker thoughts.

With that, we now have a connection running from the first episode of tamersmlp all the way to the death of applebottom, my new favorite episode.
