I'm running a game currently using Pathfinder 2e.

It's going OK. The party haven't shot at any other ponies yet (unless you count the three troggs that attacked them at the end of the first dungeon). Mostly they were just scavving a busted down industrial factory and getting it clear so their taskmasters could roll in and start restoring the place. Probably the most amusing thing to happen was the fact that the group was own-zoned by the most basic enemy I bothered statting; giant silverfish with mineral-reinforced shells. Little bastards just refused to die.

Also the alicorn was almost strangled to death by a giant crab and the ghoul got chokeslammed by a protectron.

My group uses a ToE based system that's been adjusted to make the combat more tolerable. It's still one roll for both to hit and to damage vs. a single defensive roll, with damage being equal to the difference so the lows are really low and highs are really high. It also makes chip damage really common and with healing being limited to healing items and long rests, I'm a bit nervous about our next adventure. The first one was in an unlooted hospital and we burned through all fast healing items found there. There's still some that can be used out of combat during rests left so maybe we'll be fine?
Also having a chance to tinker weapons and armor from +1 or -1 to +2 or -2 damage is going to make a big difference.

And you don't really need previous experience or even knowledge to play a FoE game. I think you're good as long as you have some general knowledge about the Fallout games so you can be a clueless stable dweller.

So far they've harvested a bunch of crab meat, found the schematic to a new gun, and data-dumped the manufacturing plant's computer system onto a holotape to hand over to their taskmasters. Technically they could have kept it for themselves (although that would be hard/dangerous) or destroyed it to sabotage the gang, but it looks like only one PC is actually thinking about trying to bust out. Ironically she only wants to escape because she's lazy, which is really not a mentality that would take her far even if she made it; the Sprawl is a really hard place to live.

>Special Day, everypony out there in the More-Than-Wasteland. We're Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the day of Sunshine and Rainbows with a special ball in Canterlot, the En Cee Arr are hosting a Gala to raise money for colonists out West. There's plenty of- bzzt- in the -fsh-

Your brown hoof fiddled with the knob on the radio until a clearer channel came in.

>--in the west. A storm is building. One has risen, one is yet to rise, many are yet to fall. A dead beast is clawing its way back to life, and the world is on the precipice of a choice. Many will see a better way, only one will be able to take it. Be careful out there, everypony, I love you all. This has been the weather Forecast, please enjoy the music. [YOU WERE LOVED BEFORE YOU WERE BORN - SWEETIE BELLE]

You pulled up from the radio, annoyed by the same song being repeated today. The Forecaster really loved that song, if only DJ Pone-3 came in more clearly when the Pegasus were working on the weather. Green Grotto was in one of the areas where the Lightbringer's tower-things didn't work so well, and Pegasus actually had to come work the clouds, so the crops would grow, and the reservoirs would refill. Your Ma said that when she and your Pa had arrived, Green Grotto had been little more than desert and blasted ruins, and that's why they'd chosen it. It had been called Glowing Grotto, back then, too. Barely inhabited by more than a few ghouls. The Ghouls had stayed, the nearby ruins of Maripony in the same canyon were one of the last sources of good Radiation in Equestria. Had been, now it was running low. Enough to sustain the local population, but not much more. The Water Barons had gone out elsewhere, hauling out barrels full of rocks and gravel and bringing back irradiated water for the thirsty population of Ghoulish New Canterlot Citizens. The nearby Ghouls had been pretty happy lately, though. They had some new help excavating the ruins, large robot ponies with screen faces. The machines had begun excavating the ruins, moving around rubble and hauling back chunks of machinery along the gravel-filled potholes of the local road.

You stopped to watch them work, still waiting on the lazy pegasi to finish thei-- one of the machines broke from the makeshift wagon train. It rapidly drew closer, it was dragging along something with a single one of the claw-ed appendages that it had where a pegasus would have wings. You could tell the moment the machine realized you were there, the screen on its face and flanks flickered to life, switching between a few different caricatures of police officers and firefighters before settling on an animated cowboy. You tilted your own hat with a little bit of annoyance as it approached, raising up to all four of your hooves.

"Howdy!" The machine shouted in the shrinking distance, bringing along a large piece of carrion.
FoE:GP No.42462559 >>42462570
>>42462553
"Howdy." You replied. A very tired howdy, indeed.

"Ah was just engaging in a honest day's labor, when I stumbled upon the Princess's [ROOT ACCESS UNAVAILABLE]. I realized she'd be mighty cross if I went and did nothing, so I took a quick detour to come ask for some assistance!" The machine continued to drag the thing closer, bloody streaks filling the ground behind it. The horn sticking from the rotten skull was unmistakable. It was a pony, a large pony. If the bloody remains of the wings clinging to its back were any indication, then it was one of the Goddess's old alicorns. They'd occasional dig up one of their skeletons or mummies, but this one was particularly-- wet and putrid, for a corpse that old.

"Ah'm sorry, I don't think ah can help, Mister, unless you need help diggin' a grave." You took a few careful steps forward, keeping your posture low almost submissive, as you interacted with the machine. Aging aggression sensors weren't worth gambling on.

"He isn't dead, kind sir." The machine spoke, grabbing your hoof as you got close enough. You squeaked.

"This isn't--" You objected as your hoof was shoved into the mass of rotting meat. You bit your tongue, the sun had warmed the flesh up to an unpleasant degree, the wet tissue nearly melting beneath your-- bu-dum. " Oh.
"I can't help--" You started. The blue heart on your flank tingled, "Ah-- if she's an alicorn, we- we might well be able to do--" The empty sockets of the skull looked at you, leaking a mysterious kind of pale-pink fluid. The heart on your flank burned, "--of course, robot mister, we'll do our best."

The robot nodded as it released the grip of your hoof, "Mighty thankful, Brookback."

He shuttered, having purposely avoided letting any of the machines know his name. Appraising the once-pony revealed that he didn't have-- anything-- to work with. It was a pony skeleton and cartilage, minus half the wing structure, with most of the flesh burnt or rotted from the bone. It was producing blood, but as fast as that blood was being produced it must be pushed out onto the open ground, as part of the putrid trail it was creating. First step was to stem the bleeding from... everywhere. Brook started breaking down his options. He didn't have artificial skin, nearly enough bandages for the entire surface area. No- wetsuits, hazmat suits, or even a vault suit. He had-- his hooves carried him quickly around the back of his house. The sound of his mother yelling something graced his ears, but he didn't have time to respond, running out back to pull the tarp from the generator that was held out back, running back towards the sick pony.

The gray and brown unicorn mare stood above the corpse, bright blue aura lifting one of the limbs to examine it, "Ah. Brook, are you gonna help me bury this thing?

"Nah, Ma, she's still alive." Brook slipped the tarp up under the alicorn with his mouth, his mother's magic joining the effort to get the creature into the dirty tarp.

"Brook- you can't-- you're not gonna be able to help this pony, and even if did, she'd just wake up and attack us," The mare started speaking. (Brook stared at her, then at his Cutie Mark, then back at her.) The argument ended. A pony isn't given the luxury of choice when their cutie mark is telling them something, attempting such is like attempting to hole one's breath until one dies. She sighed, and finished, "What can I do to help?"

"She's an ali-corn, right? Probably kept alive by rad-i-ation, and now that she doesn't have any, she's gonna start dropp'n quick. And then after that-- uh-- she needs water-- and after that-- we need a better way to keep her insides inside, something more like skin." Brook's eyelids fluttered as he continued to work through the problem. He bundled the remains of the mare up as he spoke.

"We have-- we have some drained energy cells in the shed, when the caravans come by we can get something better for her. I'll see if any of the Medical Textbooks we have mentions anything that can help with the... skin... problem." The grey mare looked up. She was better in a book than with her hooves on a pony. Her little Brook was built for this, the look in his bright blue eye was entirely focused.

"Thanks, ma." Brook nodded, barely reacting as his hooves practically pulled him over to the shed.

Index returned inside, knitting her brow as she made her way over to the collection of books she'd spent her free life building. She fancied herself the closest thing to a librarian the town had, and Brook always puffed up when he said that his mom was a librarian. The stallion was so much like his father, especially now as he attempted to pierce the veil of an impossible problem, the only pony capable of seeing something better upon the other side. Maybe, just maybe, she could help him. Her hooves pulled a book. Her eyes scanned tables of contents. Her mind flipped back through pages she'd one read. She returned the book. This cycle continued until she hit the end of the row, out of space. She sighed, pulling one of the many ancient magazines from their pile and flicking through as she considered how she'd tell Brook that she couldn't find anything. Then her eyes stopped, "Huh. Fish Skin, really?"

Strawberry Dream's ears flicked as she heard her name called. Her break wasn't supposed to be over yet, and the yelling was coming from below. Glancing down revealed a pony rapidly approaching her position. The stained white felt of the Stetson gave him away, quick. Brookback. A sweet colt, barely out of his teen ages. He waved a hoof up at her and called again, slurring her voice with his accent. She pushed off the cloud and lowered down slowly, "Hey, Bluebutt, what's up?" Brook hunched down, taking in a few deep breaths, "Need water, water in a tub up at tha' stead, pony's hurt real' bad and I'm runn'n on some real borrowed time." Strawberry knew that the worried horse was good for it, and that the normal jovial stallion was in quite a bit of stress, "I'll be right over. Just flag me down where I'll need to let the cloud out." Brook rushed back, pulling the bundled meat and tub out front, motioning the pegasus to come over and fill it. Strawberry suddenly grew a ton of questions she did not want to ask, so she leaned down over the edge of the cloud. "Hey Brook, you know this water isn't the cleanest, right? They roll in from the rad-lands, we're supposed to let it run off into places, so it filters through the dirt first." "Weirdly counting on that, right now, Strawr'berry." Brook laughed and called up. Strawberry shrugged her shoulders and emptied the cloud into the rotten meat bucket. She'll have to ask him about this later, "Well, good luck with whatever you're cooking up there." "Big thanks! I need ta crack open some old ee-cees now." Brook called out. Strawberry left right as Brook got to work. Resurrecting the alicorn was actually quite a lot like farming. Brookback even read about them growing plants with just water and nutrients, called hydroponics. Okay, it was less like watching a plant growing, and more like watching a pony rot in reverse. Soft flesh firming up, brightening. Flesh regrowing where it was lost. The murky water turning first a bright red, and then the same kinda pink you only see when really strong earth-ponies bleed. Brook kept replacing the water and eventually fertilizer as the creature kept growing. He got to go fishing with his mom, catching some really big rad-reapers and skinning and descaling them together. The skin fit weirdly around the alicorn, and she still needed a bunch of bandages, but it meant she could be taken out of the water and put on a trained saline drip they'd acquired, bandages holding the poor thing together as she assimilated the new parts, but assimilate she did. Pale white skin grew pink, a thin fuzz grew into bands of purple and white across the strange alicorn's body. Feathers grew along the wings as the small missing bones replaced themselves.

>>42462578
Brookback had only met a hoofful of Alicorns, but he could quickly tell she was different... broken. Like somebody had sawn an alicorn and normal pony up and stitched them back together. Short white forelegs, long purple backlegs. Mess of mismatched teeth. Her white torso was too small, her too-small lungs wheezed in her sleep as she took in deep breaths. The purple alicorn neck and head looked silly hanging from it. The layer of delicate skin, the velvet, that grew over her horn was white towards the base, transitioning roughly to purple, giving the illusion that the sharp alicorn horn had burst a unicorn's. Her ears ended in soft white bundles of fuzz, a shade brighter than the poofy grey mane and tail that replaced the typical graceful curls of an alicorn.

One day her eyes opened as Brook watched, bright and yellow, cat-like, with splotches of the pink. They scanned around the room slowly, before focusing on Brook. She spoke, her voice was scratchy but warm, "Hello, Little Pony, my name is Twilight Sparkle, and I think I might be the Princess now."

Goddamnit I want to start this story with too many things at once so I can't decide how to start it and no matter which way I go, it feels like it's missing something important.

I could start when the caravan he's guarding is attacked and then later return to why he was there, but the reason feels kinda important so I don't want to skip it.

I could start earlier, but that might be too boring and infodump-y.

I could also start later after he's betrayed and sold off, but that'd require some major flashbacks soon.

They only just now hit level 3, so they're not really strong enough to be doing anything crazy yet.

>Also I don't think your players will ever seriously consider escaping unless you hint at the possibility and provide an opportunity
What I mean is that two of the PCs straight up don't want to and only one of the five has any sort of plan for what they'd do if they were out.
>Alicorn has an ingrained need to 'rule' over something and has imprinted on the gang as 'her people.'
>Diamond Dog is cool with slavery and kinda doesn't give a shit about being at the bottom of the hierarchy. Sees the gang as a tool to get back at the slavers who sold them into the city to start with. When some of their taskmasters started blackmailing her for sex it was actually a bonus
>Ghoul just seems to kinda not give a shit and be going with the flow, which makes sense given how old he is
>Dragon would probably escape if given the opportunity but has no real ambitions beyond causing trouble, and leaving would make finding food harder
The Earth Pony would definitely make/try planning an escape attempt if the rest of the party was game but it looks like she got outvoted at character creation.

It would have been too early for them to escape in any case (they'd get eaten by the city), but it looks like the actual opportunity they'd have to get out later probably won't come up unless I get thrown a serious curveball.

Yeah, it's pretty good once it gets going. Author is a big fan of meticulously describing combat until he writes himself into a corner and then just having Gun black out to the other side of the encounter. Also a moderate fan of writing really clear Chekhov's Guns and then ignoring them or forgetting about them. There are enough pre-war to build a real genuine paradise out there, if only your character has enough braincells to remember the pieces of the puzzle to getting them. Gun does not. She would never end up with high level gear if she wasn't the protagonist.

That being said, the emotional load and payoff is very well done since it's mostly delivered in the second half after the author figured out what the hell he was doing.

EYE: Divine Cybermancy is a jank-ass Source game from some French studio. Famous for being a complete fever dream of a game that someone obviously dumped a load of passion into, even if it's a certified mess. Some of the guns are really notorious for how weird/wild they can be, including the SMG whose fire modes are 'fully automatic' and 'fully automatic, but way faster.'

Worth a gander if you can put up with how rough it is. If nothing else that because it's a charming bit of Eurojank in which you can backstab a Hind gunship with a katana.

A lying lesbian unicorn radio DJ was teaching a class on Littlepip, known raider.

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Pip and accept that she was the greatest hero in Equestria, even greater than Twilight Sparkle!”

At this moment, a brave, loyal, cybernetically-enhanced Red Eye soldier who had served in 1500 slave raids and understood the necessity of sacrifice and fully supported all military decision made by Captain Stern stood up and held up an explosive collar.

”How old is this collar, pinhead?”

The arrogant DJ smirked quite alicornishly and smugly replied “over 200 years, you stupid slaver”

”Correct. Which means it is part of Equestria, which we must strive to rebuild every day”

The unicorn was visibly shaken, and dropped her copy of the Book of Littlepip. She stormed out of the room crying those NCR radigator tears. The same tears ponies cry for the "slaves" of Philadelphia, who today live in such luxury that many can afford memory orbs! There is no doubt that at this point our DJ, Homage, wished she had her lesbian marefriend to pity-fuck, but she herself had already trapped Littlepip in the SPP control tower!

The students applauded and pledged to serve Master Red Eye that day. A pegasus named Murky Number Seven flew into the room and shed tears as he was rightfully re-enslaved. "Red Eye did nothing wrong" was recited several times, and Red Eye himself showed up and promised freedom for those who survived seven rounds in The Pit.

The DJ was evicted from Tenpony Tower the next day. She died of radiation poisoning and was tossed into the vats of taint to join the Unity for all eternity.

The Mint-als mint cases came in the mail. Admittedly they're a little disappointing. The tins are like thumb sized, guess I was expecting them to be like a full Altoids size.

The Vault 2 jacket looks better since I got spray paint, but it still doesn't look that great. I'll still wear it when i can if it doesn't make me feel too stupid.

I'm putting out a FOE original song and music video tomorrow, was going to do that at MF but there's just too much going on for another release. I made the video with friends in Second Life so I'll probably get a lot of shit for that, but I had fun and think it turned out pretty good for what it's worth. Pic related.

I hope you're not only just now getting started. I have half an hour slot and got my slides done and just got started with cue cards. Once those are done, I'll "present" to myself out loud to time it and see if I'm anywhere close. And I feel like I'm in a huge rush to get everything done in time.

>>42508347
I personally don't care about the details like that. Mouth guns make no sense no matter how they're designed so in my opinion it's best just leave their design vague. That's one of the freedoms of literary format. You can say a pony twists a doorknob or pulls the trigger without specifying how.

What'd you change to cover the later seasons of the show? All of the M6 apart Applejack grew quite a bit as characters, Luna became a character with more lines than one, Celestia turned far more mundane, Cadence and the Crystal Empire became a thing, unicorns actually got hit with the nerf bat, and a lot of side or minor characters got fleshed out along with a lot of new ones introduced. Trixie is more than a one-off showpony, Glimglam is a thing, Shining Armor exists, the list goes on.
The OG is very season 1 and the show and especially the world evolved quite a lot. How'd all that change the Wasteland and its inhabitants?

Murky Number Seven! It’s an awesome book that pairs well with the original. It’s a bit of a slow burn though, but the payoff is definitely worth it. Great characters and setting too.
Anonymous No.42522080

Seconding Murky, it's a long haul but is worth it if you read to the end.
Longtalons is a good companion story, more melancholy and griffon-focused.
Anywhere but Here is raunchy as fuck but has fun characters and is a nice twist on the original fic
Renewal is good so far, as a recently-completed FoE fic with likeable characters that tries to avoid the worst tropes of early fanfics while incorporating things from the later seasons of FiM into the setting.

thirding murky - it's really good! it manages the scope really well in that the entire story is basically contained within the one city, which means the stakes are pretty realistic - it focuses more on characters than it does "saving the wolrd" which really works

i had another foe story come to me in a dream so i had to write it out in green form

>lounging in the sacked out old reclining chair i inhaled the cigarette's gift into my lungs
>the rad clouds in the distance threatened another forest fire in the hills as they boomed and crackled with green lightning between themselves
>i exhaled a thin jet of white smoke and sighed
>had been a slow day
>in between scouting looting prospects our crew decided to take a day or two to recoup and organize our inventory for selling run later in the week
>hardsides, gearbox and i were scavvers, grouped in a pact to survive alongside each other against the wasteland
>and having recently set up shop in this half ruined parking garage, we found it served well as a base of operations
>imagine the previous occupants thought so too before we aired em out
>chuckling to myself at the memory i heard a carriage approach around the side of the building
>funny cuz the next caravan rolling through isnt due for another week
>snuffing out my smoke underhoof and slipping on my battle saddle i quickly made my way out the security room to greet our guests
>it sounded like whoever it was rode around back
>and around back they were
>upon seeing it was two heavily armored looking stallions i hid behind a support pillar out of their view
>they parked their carriage and the shotgun rider was in the middle of helping the pony who was pulling the wagon out of his tack
>they were pulling an appaloosan style covered wagon
>not out of place for the area but strange for types decked out how they were and the wagon was strangely clean
>my ears swiveled to clopping on concrete behind me as my forehoof met the chest of gearbox stopping him in his tracks
>"aw shit slick, i was meant to be on watch i know but i just wanted a little shuteye before-"
>i shushed him as he half racked the bolt on his SMG with his magic
>pointing with a hoof to the covered wagon we both peaked around the corner
>the stallions were out of view now
>behind the slag heap and dumpsters where they parked near maybe?
>something new caught my attention though
>several somethings actually
>mares, peaking with wild eyes through the flap on the side of the wagon
>and apparently we hadnt been as sneaky as i first assumed as one of those sets of eyes met mine
>"YOU THERE PLEASE HELP US, BY THE TWO SISTERS PLEASE HELP!!!"
>one of the mares screamed
>"THEYRE GOING TO KILL US YOU HAVE TO SAVE US!!"
>wailed another mare before the stallions announced their return with a gunshot that made the mares hide inside the wagon once more
>slinking back behind the pillar fully i had to collect my thoughts as my heart hammered in my chest
>"well who are they slick? slaves and slavers?"
>my companion asked while pushing his glasses up his nose
"maybe, but we're far out of slaver territory..."
>that just begged the question why anypony would be carting captured ponies way out this way
>better yet it brought to mind what to do now
Anonymous No.42526196
>>42526195
>doubt they would be staying around for long even if they think the garage is vacant
>"i her tha gunshoth whahappen?"
>the third buck of our group, hard sides, said around the large combat knife in his mouth as he stood at the ready in the doorway
>he had to have been sleeping as well with the way his mohawk was squished
>"we're deliberating whether or not we should play hero."
"ya dont have to be a hero to do the right thing!"
>,i said quick at gearbox
>glancing to the patch of angry rad clouds in the distance i thought on what to do
>doing the right thing is what us ponies can ever hope to do
>to do better
>"YOURE NOT REAL STALLIONS IF YOURE JUST GOING TO SIT THERE AND WATCH US DIE!"
>one of the mares screamed our direction as the wagon rounded and made its way back towards the road
"we'll ride after em."
>i said after a pause as gearbox gave a stern nod
"youre driving the cart hardsy, get your barding and ammo, boys"
>"im always drivin the cart..."
>hardsides said with a groan as he trotted off to get the cart out
>after a minute or two of prep we loaded up
>plopping down in the seat beside gearbox i stretched my hooves and adjusted my barding
>with a nudge gearbox gestured with a look to one of the wrecked skycarriages behind us
>looked like a skinny buck, maybe a colt even, dressed up like a ninja was fiddling with the door of one carriages
>wholly distracted, he played with the lock with both hooves as well as his muzzle
>with a smile gearbox produced a device with a smile as he silently said
>"watch this."
>the device was a collection of thin copper tubes bound together tightly looking like a small bundle of hoofsized firewood
>he bit one end before tossing it with his magic at the would be ninja's hooves
>the device exploded with a loud pop and flash making the skinny buck hit the deck covering his ears as hardsides launched off in surprise
>laughing together we made our way to the dirt road
>the wagons tracks lead east
>nothing but hard wasteland that way and miles from the nearest settlement
>riding at a brisk trot, the wagon came into view on the horizon
>panic hit me as i realized i forgot my shotgun
>lying over the seat on my belly i dug through the gun case in the back for it
>stale popcorn and spent shells were all i found, not even a single spare gun
>about to yell for the cart to get turned around i grabbed my bit and felt it loaded
>the shotgun was already on my battle saddle
>mentally facehoofing i climbed into the back
"REMEMBER BOYS, WE RIDE ALONG SIDE EM AND UNLOAD WITH EVERYTHING WE GOT WHEN WE GET PAST THE BUCK PULLIN! DO NOT HIT THE MARES!"
>i yelled over the clatter of hooves and wagon wheels
>all that was left to do now was light a cigarette and steel my nerves for what was to come
