if you attack the strings with the bigger, flat surface of the side of the pick, you have to push through the string and lift your hand off to actually pluck it. if you're on an angle, the curved side of the pick will more naturally glance across the string. less movement means you can go faster and more precisely

Problem is my sister's boyfriend at the time broke the whammy bar in the tremolo. I need to see if it's still there. I think he took the tremolo out because he was gonna try to fix it, but never did. That's been like.... over 29 years ago.

I think I'm hesitant of the bridge on a telecaster cause I hear the bridge kind of sucks to rest your hand on. I guess could just figure it out if I end up having an issue.

This is now a Jaguar thread, the mustang phase is over.
Just kidding, I still love my mustangs, but this Jap Jag is very fucking nice. I was kind of expecting current year MIJ to not be as good as my 2012 MIJ Mustang but itโ€™s as good if not better all around quality wise. The FSR fiesta Jag has an alder body, pure vintage โ€˜65 American Jaguar pickups and medium jumbo frets. Itโ€™s a special run. I was expecting to have to do some setup because the seller shipped it with the neck taken off but action, break angle, and even intonation was just about spot on. I want to put humbuckers in one but Iโ€™m kind of torn on which, I just got this deco boom pickguard for the turquoise Vintera Jag and they donโ€™t sell one cut for HBs, itโ€™s pickups are a bit more anemic sounding than the MIJ/FSR. Walnut Mustang anon, you should consider a MIJ Jag manโ€ฆ they are a measurable step above any of the MIMs I have played, I wonโ€™t claim theyโ€™re better than US made but based on this one they are on par with them at the very least.

Iโ€™m considering a custom shop Tele as well but Iโ€™ll be keeping all of my dozen and a half guitars as I still play all of them pretty regularly. I have a few Squiers that are redundant so I might give those away if I come across someone earnestly looking to pick up guitar. My customs Tele would be a deluxe thinline in fiesta red with matching headstock. Iโ€™ve only ever seen one Tele in that color with a matching head made by fender, pretty sure it was MIJ, but it was a standard. The custom would have the ability to split the coils too. I wish there was some way to get a ballpark estimate for something like that. The half assed custom builder page on their website is pretty limited.

I hate this stupid billion pickup choice industry. If people can put two voices and more into a pickup these days. Why can't they invent a pickup that has all the sounds you can imagine loaded? Something that could have a computer in it, transfer preprogrammed presets from the computer and then you have all the flavors you want. Why have to spend so much to have different sounds from the guitars when we have profilers that replicates 99% of accuracy a ton of amps and pedals. And in current day nobody makes the same with pickups. It's ridiculous.

Imagine I want a selection of 20 pickup sounds, I use an extra pot to select from left to right, from single coils all to the right to more hot humbucker style.

That would eliminate a lot of time and money waste.

But that's a silly false dilemma. With the technology of today we still rely on having to buy hundreds of $ for each pickup, then solder/plug it and then if you don't like it, swap it again, or if you like two pickups, you need to have two guitars. Adding to the cost.

Why do we have all this crazy digital amp tech thats getting so close to the real thing these years (and packed into more convenient little) but pickup technology is still the same old stuff? It makes no sense.

You're better off pocketing 100 and getting a katana, or if you don't want to play with distortion there's lots of good loud solid state amps that take pedals well in that price range.

What a guitar feels like to a player influences how the player plays thus changing the sound. The guitar didn't directly affect the sound, the player did, the guitar affects the player, theres a distinct difference.

Tone knobs don't work on a high or low pass, it's not an envelope filter. Pots just don't work as well as you say though, they are imperfect compare to a proper EQ.

I will say I havenโ€™t played quite as many MIJs, but the 2025 FSR Jag I just got is noticeably nicer than the older M/CIJs Iโ€™ve played or own. Just go and do it. Go to live shows, talk to local musicians after their set, see if they'd be down to get together and riff. Eventually you'll build a network of people you're familiar and comfortable with. Dudes that are about it are always looking to play, and the more you do it the better you'll get at it. I strongly encourage you to ignore any hangups or anxiety you may potentially have around it. Just go into it seeking to have fun because that's the whole point anyway.

Just be upfront about your skill and experience level to temper expectations, but at the same time people have made careers off playing 4 power chords. Focus on keeping it simple and you can look back and laugh about how, "I can't believe I spent 2 hours playing the same pentatonic pattern over and over in different intervals and it just fucking worked". Just be lighthearted and keep it fun. If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to just listen to various types of music and focus on how the bass player and drummer fill out the rhythm section as a cohesive unit. Once you get a feel for that you'll realize that guitar players have been the sprinkles on top of the cake all along, everyone else is doing the heavy lifting, and we can basically do whatever we want as long as we sit on the foundation of the rhythm itself. Also, just avoid assholes in general.

I would get a cv 50s tele in a heartbeat but I already have a guitar with a neck mini humbucker and reg slant humbucker (with a backplate) that coil taps.
If I see one at a pawn shop it's an insta-buy though.
I was going to get a barely used cv 70s strat from a guy for abt 280$ but for 260 I can get an e-art strat copy with a damn fine neck/fret job and minimal electronics work needed (Silver sky SE is still better)

"Whoa". This massive lad said, with a voice as clear as a marble bell. The air felt like a mix of dread and melancholy. It was a local battle of the bands. Most of the band had young ,18 to 20's aged members. Some cool stuff. But as the next band came on something was different. They all looked like either crypt keepers, or scalp hunters. And they were not in costume. They were much older than the other bands. The piano player was blind and was an elderly Jamaican man. The harmonica/player was this creole blues man. Smooth as grease. The drummer was a drum machine that they didn't seem to pay attention too until they did. The lights dimmed and the fog machine cloaked the stage. When it cleared a hulking brute stood. He subjected the audience to a 15 minute pregnant pause. He tilted his head and spoke into the ribbon microphone. "Are there any goobers in the audience? Get em up against the wall. We're about to do pigs on the wing. But I got something to say. I used to be into burritos. But now I'm into triple cheeseburgers. It's way more heavy". .You could here nothing but the crickets in the summer dusk. The audience transfixed, in another realm. The band lurched into a near identical sounding version of Toxic by Britney Spears, morphing into Blue in Green by Miles Davis. They won that battle of the bands. And they changed my life. Wish I could remember the name of em.

Ok so are you guys memeing or is Gary Greaser and the Shack Boyz a real band or not? I don't go to local live gigs or fairs because of my extreme agoraphobia. I have a surrogate who wears a body cam and receives my movement instruction via ear bud. Kind of how Captain Picard commands the pilot of the enterprise. You just put a craigslist ad and offer some fair pay, and people will do it and probably enjoy it. I like to follow the surrogate in my quad drone and have one lens of my VR headset the surrogates body cam, and the other the drones camera. I can close either eye to change the view. Or watch them both at the same time and see if your brain can separate them.

Jags and JMs have the widest range of tones out of any Fender guitar, the brightest, iciest highs and the warmest, fattest low ends. Also both have the best trem system thatโ€™s ever been put on a guitar. You cannot get the sound of a Jag or JM on a Strat or Tele, or vice versa for that matter.

Itโ€™ll probably be closer to five hundred, but look for a pre 2010 MIM Standard Strat. 6 screw trem, really nice feeling neck, solid pickups. I got this one in 04 and itโ€™s my most beat up and neglected guitar by far, took a huge fall off a skateboard one day on the way to practice but it still feels and sounds great. I regretted the paint job for a long time but itโ€™s grown on me over the years. I painted it in a blackout after taking the Heath Ledger challenge back in the bad old days. Iโ€™d say find one now before they get even more expensive, theyโ€™re your best bet if youโ€™re looking for the best bang for buck on a fender Strat. I still see them at GC in the used section pretty regularly, just use the serial number and look for anything 08 and prior.
