Why do you specifically want Gibson to make modern guitars? Does it matter? There are plenty of brands (esp, schecter, musicman, PRS, Kissel etc) that make modern and experimental guitars. There would be no benefit to paying the Gibson tax for a guitar that doesnβt have a legacy and isnβt of cultural significance. The best they can do is keep improving on their classic designs and make them more ergonomic / better sounding.

I was being genuine with my question and trying to spark discussion, though you're 100% right. They use that justification to avoid venturing outside the box however when they do, it's usually laughable unless guided by an artist (Paul Gilberts Fireman comes to mind). Aside from perforated headstocks and ridiculous things getting past QC their main issue is their price point, but that goes without saying. I played an "80's reissue" explorer recently and it felt like an $800 guitar at best, AND its not even spec'd like the originals. Once the 55 and older disposable income generation stops spending their pensions on "les paul custom but with funny colorburst from mod shop" it will absolutely be over unless they lower their prices and fix their qc issues. I remember when studios were $8-900 and accessible to younger players. That is no longer the case.

Honestly if Gibson didnβt sue everyone who copies their 80 year old designs theyβd be out of business and weβd all be playing Japanese clones. The only reason you buy a Gibson is because you have to have a Les Paul, explorer, sg, 335, etc.

Yeah do this, also release their less popular models like melody maker and specials as standard production lines instead of limited runs that cost a fuckton of money. Maybe try mixing up styles for more unique models like pic rel (except this doesn't work because all gibson guitars are les pauls with a different body shape)

Yeah I was gonna say the only thing Gibson can really do is put pafs, p90s or mini humbuckers in their guitars and they already do that on all the models. They already have an offset (firebird.) there isnβt much of anything they can do besides improve the weight / materials / contouring and offer better sounding higher quality pickups. They could try to fix the broken headstock issue. Idk there isnβt really much of anywhere they can go besides just making the same shit people buy because x guitarist played it in the 70s when there were less than a handful of options.

Just like all major corporate stubbornness in regards to flawed design, it takes the aftermarket to fix the problem. It's already solved and you don't even need to change the headstock angle boomers love so much. It adds multiple processes to production which they would certainly charge extra for but again, it's solved. They would probably market it as "road ready" or some shit due to it being inherently more rigid than the standard method on construction.

I only have experience with the original though I assume the nano is the same thing with a smaller footprint. Old ehx pedals are 90% unused space inside the enclosure anyway. You don't need a lot of features with reverb. The grail gives you spring, hall, flerb (that you'll never use) and a "more" knob. Set it to spring and set the knob slightly above noon and run it in your effects loop. It's all you'll need. I've always been big on natural spring reverb but it's tough to keep it clean with stage noise and vibrations, the grail mimics it well enough for live use in my experience.

How good can a partscaster get? I'm thinking of getting a sonic tele and taking it to a luthier for a full fret leveling and polishing + setup + putting fender pickups on it.

It can only be as good as the sum of it's parts + the labor involved. I think of partscasters like farm trucks. Good powertrain, rough around the edges, but a reliable workhorse that you can depend on. Once you get over $1k into a partscaster with parts and labor I feel you'd be better off just buying a used higher end fender. If you are going to build one, I think starting with something brand new and then spending even more on top or it is a little silly. Thats just my perspective though.

So, I was playing my Ibanez Gio today while waiting to buy a new guitar since the tele bigsby didn't work out, but I found the neck felt weird and not really secure. I check the screws and apparently one has somehow been stripped. Does anyone have an easy solution to fix this? I genuinely have no idea how this happened. I guess it just got weak over time? Would putting like a couple of toothpicks be enough?

Probably. The proper way to fix it is drilling out the hole, gluing in an appropriately sized dowel, and re-drilling the hole. Since it's a gio just wrap some teflon tape around the threads of the screw and send it back in. It will take up the extra space.

>>127518629
If you anchor the guitar body against YOUR body by pinning it with your picking forearm, when you barre the 1st fret for an F Major chord lets say, you an kind of bend the neck backwards using your thumb and fretting fingers a bit to get extra leverage. Don't just push, bend. It won't snap your neck or anything because you can't generate that kind of leverage unless you're a retard. That extra oomph will help you not buzz the higher sounding strings.

One therapy I found helpful with difficult chords is to capo up the neck. Then progressively bring it back down one fret at a time when the fingerings become natural. This really helped me with this form of bdim for example. I would go through a progression capo at the 6th fret until I could land this chord clean, then move down one fret and start over.

I wouldnβt get the Mustang as your first guitar. That vibrato is going to piss you off. It needs some finicking to set up and dial in, and most techs arenβt going to know what theyβre doing with it. You could learn to do it on your own but itβs a pain, it usually involves shimming the neck and adjusting the height of the bridge and vibrato bar and itβs a very time consuming balancing act because you canβt adjust them under spring tension so itβs a ton of loosening strings, adjusting, re tuning, checking, again and again until itβs right. Itβs totally doable but I would absolutely recommend against it for a βfirst real electric guitarβ. Get a Strat or a Tele if you want a Player II, Teles are retardproof and simple and just killer guitars, and Strats are right up there with them with a slightly more complex vibrato that is infinitely easier than the Mustang to set up and adjust.

Not unless you want to. The only main differences are the shape, pickups and scale between the models. The Mustang has a shorter scale as the other anon said. That means the distance between the bridge and the nut is shorter, as is the distance between frets. It makes the string tension lower so bending is easier but the strings also feel much looser. None of that is inherently a bad thing though, it's all personal preference. Mustang can play anything as much as any other model so if you like it, go for it.
I would recommend you go and try it out at a store, along with some other models just to get a feel for it and the differences between them. Other than that, get what you want and like the most cause that's what makes playing it even more enjoyable.

Yeah this one gave me trouble. First encountered it going through the Barry Harris method for guitar book. I usually prefer to play C6 (C6/9, really) like this
x32233
But I'd like to have mastery over some other difficult voicings. The thing to do is to practice it higher up on the neck where the frets are closer together and gradually move it down until your fingers are comfy doing it anywhere. Now try out the chord changes for the verse in "Interstate Love Song" by STP. Those gave (still give) me trouble too.

Also dirties up nicely because of the P90's. Keep it mind they will feedback like a motherfucker if you are anywhere near amp speakers. sounds like you need to learn these things
record your part to a click so you can easily chop it up in bars and to make the drums line up
get the steven slate drum vst, free version is fine for sketching out ideas. it'll need to go on an instrument/midi track in your DAW, then just click in beats manually, and copy/paste bars to fill out the space.
copy/paste your riff 4 or 8 times or whatever, come up with a chorus and do the same
re-arrange the chords to make a bridge
if you don't have a bass, record it in single notes on guitar then drop the pitch an octave or just program midi bass

Oh I'd honestly recommend you getting a guitar without the vibrato regardless. It really is a pain to deal with if you don't know how to set it up and makes everything more annoying. You can't even change the tuning without having to set the trem up again which is incredibly annoying. Get a guitar with a hard tail to start then later down the line get one with a trem if you really want to play around with it.

mustang pickups and strat pickups are near identical on modern guitars, mustangs just have the plastic covers on their pickups. if you like the sound of the mustang pickups on a player ii youll probably like the sound of a strat just as much. not to talk you out of the mustang, but if you like how it sounds dont forget to give a strat a shot too.

Bone is the original 'self lubricating' nut. Very traditional.
Plastic is cheap, and prone to cracking. Also, strings bind easier without some form of lubrication-- such as graphite (often from a pencil).
Graph Tech tusq nuts are like synthetic bone. All around nice to have.

Probably? He never used either on any recording, heβs been an SG guy with a Vibrola since day 1 of the Wipers and both the Strat vibrato and JM/Jag vibrato are light years better than the Gibson Vibrola

Pretty sure he did.. I can't be sure, but it seems like he would sometimes ride the vibrato during rhythm parts. Not dive like usual. Like a chord version of Hank Marvin (who was constantly on the bar), where you couldn't tell what was what.

The secret here is the guitar is actually the sentient thing here Slash being a mere puppet to facilitate the guitar. If you were to pickup Slash's guitar it would consume you as well and you'd be nothing but a helpless vessel forced to rock.

Shiiiet nigga, that's my jam. I'm currently looking into these Aria guitars. I want to replace the bridge single coil with a humbucker in single coil format and then I have my dream guitar.
They're not even expensive from what I can see.
