Would have to add hooks so I can tie down the motorcycle using ratchet straps.

How do you guys find people to meet up with for cruising? I rode 20 mins into town tonight and all I ended up seeing were some kids in sheisties with clapped out stretched 600s and a pair of vstars. I saw one dude on a hayabusa going the other way on the interstate but that was it. Do you just have to meet people organically as time goes on, or is there a good place online to find and coordinate stuff?

man why do people say to have a tune for your altitude and temp? Stock map can already compensate for that with IAT and MAP sensors in closed loop (do most motorcycles even have wideband?).
Afaik the percentage of compensation for temp can be carried over to tuned map. Yet I've heard stories of tuned bikes runnin ultra lean at altitude.

This isn't because of some intrinsic material property that degrades, it's because the assumption is that in that 3-5 year span the helmet will have become slowly damaged from use, e.g. being dropped etc. This is the same reason hard hats are recommended to be replaced every 5 years. It's a best practice, they don't truly 'expire'.

I disagree but only because the value for trainers and entry level metric cruisers with star, rebel and shadow do make a very approachable stepping stone for Harley. Rebel 1100 has its place as the lightest liter cruiser and the gold wing is kind of its own thing, but largely outside of sub 600cc metric cruisers are pointless to consider.

Im in a simmilar position. For the riding that I do my T7 is not the best choice. I would be better served by a more comfy sport tourer because most of what I do is 95% on road for 2-300 mile days plus some longer trips. But its the bike I have and I think it looks cool so Ive just ran it.

This is honestly like 80% of the people that buy adv and especially the t7, and tbf there is nothing wrong with that. You really can't know how much and what kind of riding you'll be doing until you do it. For me it was the opposite, I got an adv expecting to do mostly road and some forest service roads and such only to find I really didn't care about road performance at all and wanted to ride single track.

Older bikes are cool but i don't have space and Money to get something that would Need more care, i blew a chance for an imported cb400sf from 1999 because It would have been hell to maintain where i live, and less old bikes all look kinda bad desu.
i'd get a cbr as those are Easy to find and very reliable but apart from the First series i think they look very bad, Yamaha MTs are especially bad and i'm not into the whole hooligan and aggressive look of a KTM Duke.

I don't know. Maybe we have different criteria for what is good. I suppose a bus driver can be an excellent bus driver and not know how to drift. A rider that is good at piloting his machine and maybe never did wheelies is still a good rider. I think we can agree at that.

Knowing how to ride a wheelie safely is important for laptimes depending on the bike/track. A guy who instantly drops one and potentially puts himself into a tank slapper is both slower and less safe than a rider who doesn't mind the front lifting up coming out of a u-turn.

It's a really good bike for what it is and It's looks have grown on me. I think the red is the best color it comes in too. Its pretty unassuming to most people but its really quick up to 120mph and pulls the whole way. For you the power would be a nice step up from T7. Quick shifter is awesome. I want to flash the ECU but haven't gotten around to it. Especially before I take it to the track next year.

You start by learning how to do a rolling wheely while standing. Once you get xonsistent with that, start using an obstacle to practice popping up over. Once you're just passed the obstacle (I mean you physically) unweight the suspension and dive forward a bit to being the back up. Don't worry if you never get any lift, you need a light bike with a precisely tuned suspension to really get it like an olly, but it will help a lot on trails

Ok so I came from 2 stroke dirt bikes and can wheelie, however I'm talking street.

Nobody gets anything from wheelies in the context of street riding, besides maybe hopping a tall curb.

Dirt obviously has its uses, but for street riding wheelies are attention seeking behavior that does nothing besides cost you more money for future repairs.
>>28581957
Exactly, you go faster with two wheels not one.
>>28581993
A little lift from giving it the beans' isn't a wheelie though, that's just keeping the front end down not balancing one wheel into the air.

So again, I'm really not seeing ANY value from wheelies for the street. Dirt for sure its useful but I already knew that.

BUT LOOK FOR A FIRST GENERATION ONE. They made them from 1987 to 2007 without changing a single thing other than the plastics. Parts for them cost pennies, and I know several people who have offered to trade me their gen 2/3 KLR for my gen 1 KLR. They're really really the best ones.
Any bike will be good though, btw. Even the oil burning on the 2008s is massively overstated, and is fixed with a $50 part from MCP I think.

I think the ECU flash is definitely worth it on that motor. I sent mine off and I'm not gonna say I got crazy power gains or anything but it starts easier, is smoother at all RPMs, has much nicer off-on throttle transitions now, and the adjusted throttle curves for each mode made it overall much easier to ride which is most noticeable on the track where you're really trying to finesse the throttle through corners.
