If it's that hot, you want to be wearing gear. I know scooties are impervious to the weather (if the women I see riding in heels and dresses are anything to go by), but gear does actually help you feel more comfortable.
At 40C I close most of the vents on my jacket and soak my T-shirt in the sink. The evaporative cooling keeps me comfy for hours. Remember that above 33C the air is heating you up, not cooling you down.

for clothes:
- from C to AAA, AAA is best
- C means it has only impact, B is only abrasion, A is where is starts to have both (C+B is fine, like an armored vest under a B jacket, you are not supposed to wear C alone because while falling it may detach, and B alone because you may still might break something from impact but you just avoid becoming a crayon for some seconds)

for other protections (the impact stuff inside clothes, gloves and boots):
-level 1 and level 2, 2 is better

you can find level 1 stuff in AAA rated clothes because they may be enough to pass that level and they are usual cheaper/slimmer.

Each piece of equipment has it's special stuff you can find on top (palm sliders for gloves, anti-torsion for boots etc.) but those are extra thing you can research later

TLDR: If it's A rated (jacket and pants) and level 1 (gloves and shoes) is good enough, if you want more search for higher ratings or you can upgrade the armor on clothes for cheap if they are swappable (getting level 2 armor in your jacket or a separate back protector instead of the integrated one)

Get a summer jacket and some riding jeans/sneakers anon, so the next time stacy cuts you off because she is watching tiktok while driving cuts you off you don't create nazca lines with your blood on the pavement

Just buy not overly expensive A rated gear, summer vented jackets are usually the best pick for this instead of the "4-season" ones that simply will make you sweat like a hooker in church when its high noon during summertime. If it gets cold, get an oversized hoodie or similar and throw it over your jacket and you're done.
As for level 1 or 2, stick more with level 1 if you want more flexibility, ideally on your joints protection (shoulder, elbow, etc). As for Level 2 protection, the cheaper ones vent like shit for summer and probably won't cover your whole back, specially if you aren't a midget, on the plus side is that for winter they can keep you warm, the good level 2 ones that vent well are quite expesive, some even cost as much as a summer jacket by itself, so if you want a level 2 and can somewhat handle the lack of ventilation on your back during summer, get a cheap one from aliexpress or similar places, those cost at most $50 shipped even.
Also for jackets, the paki origin ones like Spear brand come fully equipped with lvl 1 protection and don't cost that much, then you got your more traditional brands like Astars and such, come with only elbows and shoulder protection lvl1, yet can cost almost twice and you have to buy the back protection separately, usually from their brand so it fits perfectly, but also a good way to get some extra money out your ass. I personally bought a Richa Airsummer since it was the only one that I could find in my size (4XL Euro measure ffs, its barely a murican L-XL, only shit I found on my manlet riddled shithole) it came with nice comfy flexible D3O but no back protector, the D3O back protector is expensive as fuck and the space to insert the protector is overly fucking small, had to fidget a fuckton in order to fit a level 2 chink brand pad, but it works and the jacket is pretty damn good. D3O for your back is a fucking meme unless you really need it to be very vented, the pad alone costs as much as the jacket ffs.

The seat is really flat too instead of that "bucket" shape a lot of nakeds use. I like flatter seats but it makes the bike pretty tall, if you're a king manlet like me (5'10") it's fine and if you're taller then even better. depends what you mean by โ€œworkโ€. High temp ceramic coatings for aesthetic effect will work great at resisting the temperature of the engine. So does the paint typically used though.

The coatings will not benefit cooling in any way (in fact they almost certainly will have a slight negative effect as they prevent some heat transfer to the air, which may or may not be balanced by higher emissivity due to color)

I believe you may be confusing CE rating and the C-AAA abrasion rating. C is armor carrier ony with no abrasion rating, but you can get garments rated all the way to AAA with no hard armor components whatsoever. The alphabetical rating is based on the abrasion resistance of the material itself, tested by basically holding it under a belt sander with a specific grit and amount of force and getting higher ratings for taking longer to abrade through, and the tear resistance of the seams measured by clamping in a machine and pulling until failure, with the higher amount required contributing to a higher rating. The overall score of the garment is determined by whichever of these is lower, so you could have a heavy leather jacket that exceeds AAA abrasion with poor stitching, and get a B or A score overall. CE impact rating is based on transferred energy, with 2 transferring less than 1. The CE system and Alpha rating system identify different types of protection.

The silver one started skipping around 21k mi, I bought this blue one with 12,300 miles and it's starting that BS at about 17k. Was hoping I would get more time out of 2nd but I knew it was going to happen sometime.
As far as I know 2nd will just be weak but I'll be able to ride it forever, taking it easy on or skipping 2nd. Sucks though 2nd is such a nice gear for 35-50.

Also have a 97 CBR600 project bike I need to sell, & a '97 Virago I need to gain interest in again & sort the carbs again.

That's cool you confirm the comfy, I'd love to try one out sometime if it could happen. The FZ1 is pretty quick I'm sure the ZX14 has considerably more go tho. the FZ is 507lbs and kinda tall. I think I'd handle the ZX well, I'm not a light wrist on these, I'm used to em & if I ride spirited sometimes I am full-throttle riding and still wanting more.

I would advise against a tail bag + rucksack combo. I tried that and the rucksack did not stay on my back properly because it was being pushed up by the drybag I had on the rear seat. Luckily I brought spare rope and ended up tying the rucksack down to the drybag. That worked very well although under hard braking the whole thing wanted to push me forward, not dangerous but somewhat unnerving. My advice would be to go for a test ride fully equipped, don't just assume that a setup will work because you tested half of it.

Thinking about trading my 2012 NC700X (picrel) in towards a 2023 Z900RS a dealership nearby has. I really like the NC, but I want more power and better handling, and the retro look makes my pp tingle. Anything I should know about the Z900RS? I've done a bunch of research, the main complaint I see is people don't like the throttle response in low RPMs.

Thanks man. You're welcome to try mine if you're ever in DFW. Lol. The center of gravity of the zx14 is very low, so while it is heavy, it handles really well. You can spin tight circles with it no problem.
I definitely recommend the bar spacers and a steering stabilizer though. The spacers make it it really comfy and the stabilizer really is needed for cutting up. Front end gets really light even on the highway under full throttle because of all the torque.
You can definitely get down with it on a back road, but it's not going to slice and dice like a true super sport. I took my zx14 to the twisties a month or so ago. Compare that to my run yesterday on my zx6r.

I'm watching reviews of various electric bikes and it makes me realize how much I hate 99% of reviewers.
Have you ever seen a "review" of an adv/dual sport where a guy rides it on some trail, tells how nice the suspension is, but doesn't bother to layerdown to show how hard to pick that bike up, or how awkward is it to push around when stuck? Yeah, I hate those faggots.
Have you ever seen a "review" of a touring bike where a guy tells you about bike's top speed but doesn't bother to show the luggage setup, OEM panniers capacity, tie-up points? Yeah, I hate those faggots.
Watching electric moto reviews just makes this faggotry apparent. For an e-moto literally everyone wants to know the real-world range and the ease of real-world charging. Almost nobody shows that.
I'll probably go with Ultra Bee just because I know it'll be easy to use its charger without removing it from under the seat.
I hate those people.

Nice. I recently did a test camp in preparation for a week long trip through Tassie.
The DRZ has the Mosko Moto rackless 80, he was well packed but wants to ditch his backpack. Should be easy because we packed lots of fresh food (it was just one night and we wanted a big bbq).
The CRF has 40 litre rhinowalk bags. They didn't sit well and he was over packed. He's going to sell the CRF and go back to a 690 (he had one years ago) with better luggage.
My WR has the 20 litre rhinowalks, with the over filled tail bag. Half of it was good and grog so that'll be easy to cut down. My tent (plus ground cover), chair and sleeping mat all fit in the right saddle bag but my old sleeping bag took up the whole left bag. I'll be getting a new down sleeping bag and probably a better mat. I'll change the tail bag to a smaller one.
If I wanted to spend more money I'd go with yhe Kriega OS system, seems much nicer.

I have CE1 elbow & shoulder armor as well as back foam (but I know that's worthless) as it came with the jacket but I don't have back, hip & knee armor. Should I get no armor, just the missing pieces, just a specific piece, or all CE2 armor?

Additionally, how much should bodyweight factor into engine size picking? Obv I know that being fat doesn't mean I need a literbike, but should I just skip over a 250cc because of my weight? I'm almost 300 lbs. Essentially, can a Ninja 250 go on 65-75 mph roads and keep up with/pass traffic with a fatfuck on it? Have you ever ridden a bike before? I've offered to let a few obese people sit on my bike before, and they've all refused because they didn't feel like they were physically capable of getting their leg onto it. My bike (CB500X) isn't particularly tall either. Have a sit on a few in the shop, but you might want to focus on cruisers for their low seat height.

>can a Ninja 250 go on 65-75 mph roads and keep up with/pass traffic with a fatfuck on it?
Consider the fact that the bike is designed to be ridden with a pillion passenger. It probably has a combined maximum load rating of around 170-180kg, so you're fine in that sense. But that said, a Ninja 250 wouldn't be appropriate for those roads even with a healthy-weight rider. I owned a Ninja 250 for 4 years, and I weighed about 80kg at the time. It's great at 80km/hr, uncomfortable at 100km/hr, and spending more than a few minutes at 110km/hr literally killed my ass.

I see 125cc scooters riding with pillions all the time. You *probably* aren't too obese for a Ninja 250, but you shouldn't expect to maintain freeway speeds on a beginner bike. Bikes in general have far lower top speeds than cars. One thing to consider is that bikes have adjustable spring preload, so you'll want to crank that up a bit before you ride or it will be far too squishy. It usually takes a special tool and it's a bit tricky to do, but you'll only need to do it once.

If you want the ability to go on an interstate, which is presumably incredibly fast given usual American standards, you'll want at least a 500cc (Rebel 500, Eliminator 500, 450 CL-C). Maybe even consider a 650cc (Vulcan 650). But once you actually ride a bike, you'll probably quickly realise that you don't actually want to go at those speeds for quite a while. It's a very different sensation to a car.

Also I just want to say that I get physically repulsed by obese people, and I genuinely believe in your ability to fix your situation before it's too late. Good luck.

https://youtu.be/NkK5fnKoNKc
I'm 210, gf is 150. No problems getting places two-up on the cbr250 which has 25 HP. As far as passing power goes, it's not really there with that much weight, but hopefully that video will give you an idea. I think the ninja has more power than the CBR, depending on which year model you have.
If you've already purchased a ninja 250, just ride it for a while. If not, go for something in the 400/500/650 category.

As far as your gear goes, you're fine as is for the msf lot. Personally, I would just buy the missing pieces and not worry about upgrading to ce2 on everything.
However, I also wear just a skin tight armored shirt with work pants/boots and hit 160mph on my way to work. It's all your level of risk. If you get into an accident with ce1 armor, you're going to be well enough protected.

They're only really 65mph (~105kph) near me, but everyone speeds so it's more like 70-75 and you really want to be able to go 80 in case of danger, even when driving a car, I'd imagine it's similar for motorcycling.
>also I just want to say that I get physically repulsed by obese people, and I genuinely believe in your ability to fix your situation before it's too late. Good luck.

If you ride a bicycle, then a motorbike will be fine. Get the Ninja 250 if that's what you want, they're fun bikes.

>I heard it was good but how can it be if it's thin enough to be an undershirt?
Motorcycle gear has two different safety ratings - abrasion resistance, and impact resistance. They're usually in the same garment, if it's rated A, AA, or AAA. But there are also class B and C garments which only have impact and abrasion resistance respectively.
Something which looks like an undershirt might have armour, but it won't provide any abrasive resistance. It would probably just be designed for dirt bikes.

You mentioned "CE2" armour earlier, but that only refers to the impact protection. Those are the armour pieces that you'll find within an "AA" jacket.
"AA" will be safer than "A", but less comfortable. Remember that the best gear is whatever you'll be willing to wear every single time you ride.

And yeah, I really wouldn't be willing to go 75mph (120km/hr) on a Ninja 250 for any reasonable amount of time. Not out of fear, just comfort with the vibey engine.
But honestly, it took me a month before I was even willing to ride at 60km/hr. And much longer before I would go at 100km/hr on the freeway. Don't fall into the "capability trap" of buying a bike based on its ability to do things which you personally won't do anyway.

I should add, I think I remember 100km/hr being about 8000rpm in 6th gear. And Australian bikes were geared higher than American ones.
So if you want to ride at 75mph, you'll be at maybe 10k rpm. For a bike that redlines at 12k, that's a pretty big ask.

Yes I'm familiar with the armor ratings. I guess that impact vs abrasion makes sense, though I think I'd have to see a piece in person to really get it.

That makes sense to me, if it's not in the cards for the bike I end up getting I still have my car.

Yeah I'm just thinking of places I have go to, usually I have to take the interstate, my state's got a weird layout. The interstate is essentially the "comfortable with riding" goal but it'll take some time for me to work up the nerve.

Thanks for all your help, and thanks to all the other anons who answered my questions. Now I gotta get to sleep, I have work in the morning.

It's an American thing. Combination of wanting to go fast, retarded slow drivers clogging up the fast lane or only lane, and motherfuckers who seriously cannot drive and you just need to get fuck away from them. It's not a joke, they seriously do hand out licenses to anyone in this country.
Also, I'm mentally ill and must be weaving through traffic or I freak out. Not uncoincidental that I am that way and I grew up driving in the state with the worst drivers.

It is Pando Moto Skin UH003 armored base layer shirt. I also have the Skin UH AAA pants.
It's pretty high tech stuff, I should have a video on it. Cooling fabric, skin tight, abrasion protection. It's expensive as fuck for a reason.
Something that you get later into riding when you've settled in a bit.
As far as the bike, go for something bigger. Honestly at your weight, might recommend starting on a 650 parallel twin ninja. A 400 or 500 would be just fine though.

Kek. My old landlord was a retired Lockheed engineer with more money than God and zero common sense. He asked me to help him with a "project" one day, turns out he had built a de-stroked 22RE, tuned it to spin 10k rpms, but instead of putting it in the caterham he was building, decided to fit it along with a 5 speed transmission and a 4x4 transfer case (to run the mower deck) to his riding mower. He replaced the drive belts with motorcycle chains. It ran great, super fast, would wheelie instantly. When he engaged the deck, the blade spindles immediately exploded. One blade went up through the deck and embedded itself in the wall of his garage, the other (we think) skipped along the ground and struck one of his cows, nearly severing its rear leg and ripping open its belly. We spent the rest of the day impromptu butchering said cow, but he did give be a ton of steaks and ribs as a thank you.

The oil pan comes off and from what I remember there's a baffling/spacer case and then all the gears are on shafts inside of it. There's a guy that did a full engine rebuild including the transmission in depth on YouTube. I've done many things & taken a few engines out for things but over never split one to mess with a transmission yet. I know I can do it but it's pretty involved, I wish our garage was heated, it'd be great to do it during the winter.
I appreciate the sentiment but I'm in Western PA so I don't know if I'll ever get down there haha. I have wanted to do a long adventure-trip sometime, I'd love to see some red desert.

It's happened to both my Fazer-thous
As long as I baby second gear I can still use it but otherwise I just skip it and I think you could do that indefinitely.
I've seen many cheap sport bikes on Craigslist and Marketplace saying they're missing second gear as well
