compression is fucked as suspected, and a used engine is pretty much the same as another bike. I suspect the bottom end is also sorta messed up based on how easy it is to clutchless down through the gears.

My dad is mad because I changed the tires of his 80s XT225 that he left in my garage for a year that were severely dry rotted and worn out after he didn't ride it for 6 years because he wants everything to be original and now he wants me to find the original tires somehow and put them back on or he'll take the bike back and just leave it sitting like he already did for years.

New rings? It shouldn't be that big of a job.
Take the head off and leave a bit of diesel in the chamber to see if you have leaky valves, if you do then lap them with paste.
Worst case you'll need to overbore the cylinders for new pistons.

Also english difficult, how does bottom end have anything to do with the tranny.

Like it or not, it's his bike and if he wants to keep dry-rotted tires on, then it was entirely up to him. Sure it's dangerous, but it's his bike, and you should have asked him about it

The great news is that 80s 225s tires are still made, new. Especially if it's one of the ones made from 1986 to the 90s. You can get them and dress them up to be original. Or you can buy them used and pretend that they were the ones he always had. Or you can come clean and just tell him that the other ones had dry rotted and here's the OEM from the service manual.

It's easy to clutch less shift because Suzuki transmissions were smooooth
Also--- Did you get a compression test? Suzuki specs a very close gap for the valve lash, which goes to zero on the exhaust when nobody looks after it, then you get bad compressions.
Check the valve clearance and set to Kawasaki Z1 specs (not kidding, the Suzuki head is a Kawasaki copy and Kawasaki got the clue and opened their specs, Suzuki wanted the head to stay quiet, I guess) The larger gap in the exhaust pretty much halts ex valve seat erosion. Because of reasons.
T. own a two valve Suzuki myself.

No, motorcycle people LOVE big, bright, and colorful bikes. We do not like the deluge of black and brown bikes, we're forced to ride them because everyone else decided they were going to make brown and black plastic bikes.

The most beautiful modern bike I've seen in a long time is the KLR650 in Pearl White. I say 'modern' loosely because it's still just a KLR. But the accents, the color, the brightness, it's all things missing from modern bikes. Tomorrow I'm going to go look at a sea-blue Tenny and maybe even take it home.

China has been, with the exception of that weird "Being invaded and then commie" bit between 1937 and 1976, the dominant economic force on planet earth. The return of China to the top tier of international trade and manufacturing is only a return to the natural order of things. No sense getting bent about it. It's not zero-sum. China's return to power diminishes no other nation. Unless that nation chooses to be diminished, like what we (the US) are doing now. Sucks to be us atm.

You, fellow 'tard. It's made in India by TVS. There's one reason to do that: cut manufacturing costs. And even then they still couldn't undercut their single cylinder 650 dakar model with a 450 twin that puts out the same horsepower.

And if that doesn't depress you enough, Honda and Kawa are both expanding their India manufactering bases this year and next to further reduce costs as well. But I bet we still don't see a cheaper cb500 stateside.

One remaining problem is the geneator might be bust. Fifth week there. I will send my lad there tomorrow as unpaid assistant to the assistant. Hurry them up a bit. This is an important part of it. Luxurious just 20 years ago used to be ABS. Something that's standard in even small dual-sports, now.

When safety increases, the boomers close in. That's why they're clustering around the ADV market and not the sport bike or the cruiser market. If you're worried about looking poor, buy a Pan America.

From that you ride a motorcyle as you sit atop and astride it like a horse. You drive a car because it is like a coach and you sit behind the engine not on and round it.

It is not their fault it is ours. We changed the gallon size in the 1820s in some mad standardisarion rush. They are still using the imperial wine gallon where we use a fake bigger gallon and call it imperial. They were not British controlled by then and carried on with real gallons.

It isn't the British system anyway. The empire Imperial refers to is Roman and all Europe used to before Napoleon messed with them.

Nobody actually uses metric really. They may pretend to but things like plasterboard is either 9mm or 12mm and 9mm is 5/16th inch. Board sizes are 900x1200mm. Always divisible by 2/3/6 like imperial. If things were actually in whole meters it would be completely unintruitive and impossible to divide anything unless by 5 which is useless.

Metric is play acting and should be phased out. It is the motorcyle equivilent of EFI instead of carburetters.

How tall are you? Somewhere between one and two meters, right? It is unworkable.

A bit of a fantastical scenario because ironically there are so many weirdo chink and jeet brands that it would be a total chaos for 10 years. The US gets drip-feed of them, you guys don't even know.

Like I bet you thought RE is for hipsters and old men, let me introduce you to Jawa, an ex-czechoslovak brand currently mostly made in India. Look up Jawa Perak(330?). You want hipster bobber, you get hipster bobber - ultimate edition. Analogue reverse sweep speedo included(as in, 0 is on the right).

Ok that's not hipster enough. You've been eyeing Urals but 20k for an old BMW copy is fucking steep. Chink company shineray has you covered - they sell it under like 5 names and brands, iirc. SWM Urban 525 in most of Europe, Mash Sidecar in France and Groza in Russia and Kazakhstan. Half the price of Ural and the usual problem of you having to torque all the bolts in a chink bike out of the box kind of go away because Ural isn't for wrenchlets either. If that's not weird enough then Coco(chink) makes a honda supercub clone with w sidecar, yes it comes in pink, but can't get it outside of China(I think).

Ok, you see, that's cool, but you're big anime fan and ducati diavel can't be bought new and old ones are too expensive. I believe Keeway or QJ has some sub-brand that makes a 700cc v4 bike made to sort or look like that. I think it's even V4. One of them has that the other has mid-displacement V4 crusiers with more normal styling.

All the issues you can imagine with build quality etc. aside, Chink/Jeet bike world is at least crazy, I guess they know most of them can't sell a lifestyle like harley or build things to be high performance enough like the Euros, or as reliable as the Japanese so they are trying to gnaw the niches the big established brands aren't covering.

A top end rebuild makes sense, but I'm on the fence because if the engine is like the rest of this bike there's at least three other things wrong with it.

Your English is fine. I'm extrapolating a bit because on a motorcycle, the transmission and the engine are one unit. I should have said transmission.

>>28708086
I'm comparing this one to my 77 750 that I rode in 2023 and 2024. This one I can clutchless downshift with the throttle completely closed and no clutching. I guess there's a chance the clutch is getting worn out...

As for the valves, I did those as soon as I got the bike and of course they were out but they're all back in, and choosing between shims I went with the looser of the two.

And this thing tends to be a bitch to start most of the time so yeah. You're starting to make me think I need to do a valve job. Compression is 128 to 184 PSI per the manual, with a rebuild at 100. I've got 121 to 140. And yeah, it makes dogshit power. Feels like it makes less than the 750 I had and both bikes had the exact same mods, except for filter brand. It won't even pull to the top of 4th.

Cool to see another 8, er, 4 valve in here. Never expected to.

20, 50, and 100 are just 10x of 2, 5, and 10 therefore it's the same as 2, 5, and 10 in simplified terms. Now you mention 4 for 4x25 to make 100 for base 10 but 4 also works with 4x3 for base 12 so on that respect we can ignore 4 as they are equal. 12 still stands as having 3 as a unique divisible which can't cleanly divide in base 10 without ugly repeating digits

It's not the same, metric is designed so that scientific notation can be utilized, it's not the same with imperial because of the word unit into unit conversations (12in becomes 1ft and 3ft becomes 1y). A previous owner has tuned it so it seems to have a long tail of unlimited further performance. At high revs it can just do stuff. Nor am I buying anything bigger until I proper understand how this one works and I don't yet.

Imperial system is named units of meaningful sizes that can be divided easily. Practical use of metric system has devolved into named units of sizes that can be divided easily like 900x1200mm. Instead of running a mile they are running 1600 meters. Or 800m for half mile and 400m for quarter mile. Kids wave 30cm rulers around in school. It has failed. I think it's just a matter who trannies are now and who they were back when their therapies started.

Back then they were mental cases who would attempt suicide every time they reminded themselves they have a dick. A life of a lonely, unfuckable, ugly woman with a rotting hole pretending to be a pussy was preferable to seeing their bulge print or something like that. They were around even as far back as the 1970's, it's just that they were so marginal we're talking about maybe like 3000 across the entire US and with the suicides, HIV and so on there's maybe like 30 left(a lot of them allowed the hole to heal up and just have some flesh sculptures meant to masquerade as clit and labia left, but no hole). All the "trans healthcare" methodology is geared towards them though.
Right now the average tranny you get is an autistic gay bottom who watched too much anime and has seen the older brother that molested him go through twink death, maybe he also wants access to straight(er) men, because gay tops are 20% of all fags. Most likely he'll start from just cross-dressing and makeup, but eventually he will sneak into "the system" to get prescription for hormonal therapy, but he will also be given psychological advice etc. etc. and he will get railroaded into the process devised for people who were much more disturbed than he is. He will also enter the "trans community" where a tons of sunken cost fallacy fuckers reside.

121 to 140 is fine. Sounds like it's out of tune.
What do the spark plugs look like?

Disregard the advice about pulling the head. I'd certainly pull and inspect the clutch since not transmitting power is a good reason for being slow.

I bought my '81 GS 750 from an owner who was convinced the top end was fucked for 500 bucks in 1985. I knew better, cleaned the carbs and put 30K more miles on it without issues. They're impressively rugged.

While at it I'd strip and dip the carbs (and inspect the cylinder head side rubber boots which are likely hard and cracking by now) including removing the factory mixture screw plugs and going one number drill bit size larger than the largest drill shank which fits through the low speed jets. We did that to many bikes of the era because EPA jetting is so lean. I'd also ensure zero air leaks from the vacuum petcock hose etc.

Been to gesresources.com yet? It's the best online resource for them.

Am I getting ripped off?

Yesterday I was asking my Honda dealership for a quote on parts + installation for heated grips and a quickshifter on a Hornet 1000.
I know from two other honda dealers that the QS costs exactly 230€, the grip heater is around ~400 (both parts OEM).
He told me they could do it for 860€ all in all. That meant parts, installation and initialization of those parts on the bike.

That's 660€ in materials an another 230€ for however long they need for the process.
Sounds a bit much to me, maybe somebody who had comparable work done to their bikes can chime in?

230 euro/pounds whatever for a few hours of labor on a motorcycle is pretty standard. This is the price you pay for being a wrenchlet.

I installed heated grips on my mates eliminator for a cheeseburger.
The grips cost him 50 bucks from the autoparts store.

Unironically, it's distance. A2 licensing in Bongland (maybe EU wide but I don't know if Brexit changed this) ensures that you either make a bike with less than 35kw (48hp) that must weigh 175kg or more, or you make a 200kg 75kw tourer that cruises at 150km/h halfway up it's rev range for hours at a time. Nothing in between or you lose both the learners market in Europe and the weekend warrior market in North America.

So if you're going to be crossing hours of freeway in a single stretch, would you rather do it at 120km/h at 90% of your redline on a crf300, or 130km/h at 50% on a t7?

Come on, man. At the end of the day, you have to turn a profit, and offroading bikes are a small, niche market compared to the commuter market. I'd love to see a rally tower 55hp single at 375lbs, but how many other people would actually buy it?
