A good unit has strong fortifications, disperses people and equipment, and they have the training and leadership to beat back assaults. I fought in the Iraq war so I'm something of an expert on surviving wars: you'll be fine as long as you can stay calm. Even when you feel stress/scared/etc if you stay controlled and act in a calculation way you will survive. I say that because 95% of modern war is artillery/drone duels so you have a chance if you get low enough or get in a trench.
