yeah this is exactly what ive been saying for ages, IDW's payment structure is absolutely fucked and it shows in the quality were getting. when your paying creators $45-70 per page which works out to below minimum wage when you factor in the actual time investment you cant expect anyone to give a shit about crafting quality stories
evan makes less than 40k most years and ians basically surviving off bumblekast alone because he wont get a real job. these arent stable living wages especially not in this economy. so what happens? you get writers and artists who are just phoning it in to meet deadlines and pay rent
the whole "creator corner" bullshit is just idw trying to make it look like they actually care about their talent when really theyre just trying to distract from the fact that their payment is garbage-tier. its damage control because they know nobody with actual options would stick around for those wages

I tell you what, I just do not understand how we got to this point with Sonic, fellas. You look at the games, you look at the movies, you look at the shows like Prime, and they’re all doing real well. They got mainstream attention, kids are buying the merch, adults are coming back because of the nostalgia, and even the movies are breaking a billion. But then you look at IDW Sonic, and it’s just dragging along, barely making a dent, and it does not make a lick of sense on the surface.
Now, people will say, “Well, IDW is one of their best sellers,” but you gotta look at the context. That just means it’s one of the better-selling comics at IDW, which is a company that is barely hanging on itself. That is not the same as doing well by Sonic standards, or by the standards of the franchise’s other branches. You got all this Sonic discourse and fanart online, Twitter accounts with fifty thousand followers, folks always talking about the comics, but if you look at actual sales, it’s nowhere near what you’d expect. You got all these people acting like the comic is a big deal, but most of ‘em don’t even buy it. They just yell about it on social media or pirate it because they do not have a comic shop within a hundred miles.
And then there’s the problem with the comics themselves. IDW Sonic has been stuck in this weird rut, always set after Forces, can’t do anything too wild because of Sega’s mandates, and the stories are just filler to keep the really hardcore fans around. The “drought” is over, we got new games and shows, so what’s the point of the comic now? It ain’t the only Sonic print thing anymore, either, now that Sonic mangas are back. Comics in general are not lucrative and the schedule is all over the place, so it never really builds momentum.
So when you see people sayin’ IDW Sonic is doing fine just because it isn’t getting axed yet, they are missing the whole picture.

I hope IDW dies before the next Japanese volume and the Japs go full "wtf is this shit" and rewrite everything past Metal Virus.
