The fact that Knuckles IS KNUCKLES is not the problem with his character.
If Sonic is as free as the wind, Knuckles is as immovable as a mountain. This is the core concept. This means that while Sonic is a nomadic traveler, Knuckles always has to be rooted in place on Angel Island watching over the Master Emerald. The issue that then arises is simply "how do we get Sonic & Knuckles in the same place?"
But, what is required to make Knuckles work is two things:
1) The series needs a very strongly defined setting as the core backdrop, where Angel Island exists and holds significance.
2) Knuckles himself needs individual story focus, that puts the spotlight on him alone separate from Sonic. If he is the Guardian of the Master Emerald and all of Angel Island, then he should consistently have to face threats to the very things he has to protect. Otherwise, his job holds no weight. The Emerald and the Island are at the central point of the series' lore and mythos, so it deserves to be treated as such.
Simply deleting the Master Emerald so Knuckles is free to just follow Sonic on his adventures, is not how you use Knuckles. Because that assassinates the very core of his character and the root of his dynamic with Sonic.

Oh boy, not even 24 hours passed since I beaten Shadow Gens and I'm noticing all the plot holes from the ending.
>Classic Sonic & Tails were perfectly fine and dandy after Time Eater was destroyed, but somehow Gerald and Maria were sent back to their time periods after Black Doom's destruction for a reason that's poorly done in hopes of having a bittersweet ending when it doesn't make sense at all in terms of canon

Nothing states they'll forget the events of Shadow Generations so ultimately this causes a new timeline that likely prevented their deaths since Gerald will likely inform the Shadow of their timeline all of this new information.
I don't want to blame shit on Ian Flynn since he's a punching bag nowadays, but he's likely the one who wrote this.

Shadow is another Sonic who can beat Sonic at his own game because he's literally the cooler, better, edgier, darker Sonic with special techniques with the Chaos Emeralds that Sonic himself never uses.

Is is a story where they need to learn to get better, or a series of jokes about how they suck

As for images, you have to have the image posted somewhere else like imgur or deviantart and copy a link to the image itself, then post that in the box that pops up when you press the image icon on the AO3 page. Takes some getting used to but isn't something the average person can't figure out. Good luck.

Her entire personality is ‘stoic’ until writers randomly make her insecure (IDW) or forget she exists (Forces).
She exists to babysit the Sol Emeralds (which do nothing unique compared to Chaos Emeralds) or job to villains (Eggman Nega, Surge).
At least Silver’s time travel shenanigans try to explore themes of destiny. Blaze’s dimension-hopping is just set dressing for Sonic Team’s refusal to develop her beyond ‘pyro cat.’
Silver has flaws, but Blaze is the definition of wasted potential, a character whose entire existence is retroactively rendered irrelevant by lazy writing.
