Do you think there is a quality difference between a group making music vs a solo artist? Seems like most of the best music came from groups, but also solo artists were more rare until recently so it could just be a numbers game.

Truth is they realize their core audience is addicted to plastic minis and they price gauge all they want, but the HOBBY itself is prohibitive to your average person. They will never get those vaunted mainstream audience interested in their bread and butter. In a roundabout way they've made the correct choice - nickel and dime your core audience which is more than willing to cover the price hikes, and license secondary shit for everyone else since it requires zero effort on GW's part.
