From my time in the NoFap sphere, there are only two kinds of people who are really into quitting porn. There is the occasional "real" porn addict that watches porn for 8 hours a day even when they aren't jerking off. They will be watching porn at 7am during breakfast before work. They are the ones that actual need le therapy. But most porn addicts on the forums are just guys who have escalated their porn habits to fetishes they are uncomfortable with. Trying to quit porn, for these guys, just creates an all or nothing problem where they are either not watching porn or are relapsing and indulging completely in their gross fetishes. Many NoFappers are Christian or Muslim (or even Hindu LOL), and this line of thinking also often plays into a black and white religious mindset: "I'm already sinning, why not indulge in my gross and embarrassing fetish!". Cold turkey is an unrealistic strategy for these guys, and they should just consciously decide to only view porn that relates to real life desires and experiences, which is usually monogamous sex with a biological woman. They think they want to quit porn when really they want to stop having an embarrassing fetish. If you think I'm projecting, just go read the forum posts on the NoFap website or subreddit. Also, 90% of the brain chemistry and rewiring stuff talked about by these guys is either complete bullshit or more nuanced than it appears. We do not understand the brain that well, and porn research is extremely new and underfunded/researched.
