I use Window Maker primary and as far as I know its X only. You can also give CDE a try. I don't know about linux but its part of pkgsrc that comes with NetBSD and open solaris. a quick pkgin and few updated config files and you too can rock a workstation like its the 90's

Now that happy days are coming back, we can hopefully get CDE (no, not KDE) back to former glory.
