Nope. The game didn't tell others to trend-chase it or try to be "Halo killers".
Greedy, unthinking people tried to cheaply replicate its success to the harm of the industry.
>people in and out of Microsoft doubted Halo and thought Azurik would be the future
People involved with Halo just considered the universe they wanted to make and what might stand out from the crowd a little at the time, and made it.

Yeah, I can kinda buy suicide ramming your own ships to potentially disable it, but prior to that it's a bit weird. I guess some book tries to explain it, but after Forerunner trilogy (cool as it was in a vacuum) I stopped with books.
Probably something about zerg rush ambushes via dropships while the ship was damaged from Guardian/Created antics. Doesn't make the execution less disappointing though. Was a great chance to explore the Infinity while under siege, to say the least.

>decision to cut open-world for Halo CE was made
>CE and 2 doubted for not following console/multiplayer trends
It really shows how little thinking and appreciation for franchise history was involved. Tragic how avoidable the 343-era was. By all means another game could become more popular, even as Halo once became more popular than other stuff. Still no reason for it what happened to have taken place.

Pierre has said before he wishes there were less white men in the room and tragically I would meet his requirement of wanting more browns around
The only thing is I don't know if people working on Halo will ever again be allowed to focus on Halo first, trends second
It's very sad considering Halo was doubted at first for not seeming like the most trendy thing and then defied the expectations of people at Microsoft, Bungie and the wider gaming world

Basically. Anyway, almost nothing stays #1 forever and almost no one at Microsoft thought Halo would be as big as it was anyway.
Both then and now, I just want a fairly good new Halo. Microsoft just keeps over-complicating the path to getting there by prioritizing the wrong stuff.
I wouldn't even mind a Halo where everything is suddenly more realistic in terms of weapon behavior, but doing so is an even more complex task.
It can also just be a set of modifiers on the side, even as skulls and customs progressed despite not being strictly necessary features.
