Through praveians and Forge Lords you can get mech bots in a marine army easy. Overlords let you pack some lasrifle auxilia in so it's not like you'll never have a reason to paint those guys up.
If you can't decide on a legion build a list and think of which legion it fits the most. It's not like you're ever going to stop.
