some people just don't have the talent for music even after playing for years. they can read sheet music and build a classical repertoire but still lack any musical maturity, can't improvise, can't transcribe or play by ear, can't compose. just robots with half decent rhythm and sight reading skills. i really think you either have it or you don't with being musically creative. i tried my hardest to get into singing, memorizing intervals and solfege, just so i could "hear" piano music right, but really the best you can do is whatever you come up with in a moment. you can't prepare for it like you can a test, a domain where you can force success. people who try that become "theoryfags". it's all intuition, and spontaneous talent. you need the ear.

yes toby fox sucked but he also had a huge following as a teenage (also look at his yearbook entry and extracurriculars - he was 'that kid', the one everyone knew was going to do something, went to a top school, etc). the undertale soundtrack was composed when he was in his late teens and early twenties. he is in all ways a talented outlier. he was really good at what he did for almost all of his youth, from the biographical details we have. and that's how it is for most really successful people. they were the ones you remember "having it" in middle school and high school. they weren't the losers and aloof midwits on the margins.
