Sunshine should've ended when they finally set off the last detonation and the sparks just started to flit into existence, then immediately cut to black, film over. You don't know for sure if it worked or not - if humanity was saved. It's left to the imagination, which elevates the film.

This would've been actually interesting from a philosophical and narrative standpoint. But they ruined it and made the most boorish, obvious conclusion.
