Most rpgs that people say have "good combat" are because they have mechanics that let you basically bypass the gameplay, and Clair Obscur is no exception.
Biggest disaster that could possibly come from COE33's success is if tons of other devs follow suit and water down their RPGs with the ever-trendy timed dodge/parry.
Real RPG fundamentals start from PUZZLE GAME design sensibilities serving as the foundation and working their way upwards, but a rare few RPG developers actually understand this and even fewer demonstrate it in their work.
tl;dr RPGs are fucked and always have been but holy shit they're getting fucked worse than any of us could have ever imagined.
