To be fair, they've been one play away twice. It's not like the Dallas situation where they just haven't even been close for 20+ years

I might be remembering wrong but I recall hearing that she had kind of a Margot Kidder / Anne Heche bipolar streak and between that and the inevitable walling she was always going to have a short peak

Basically the broken butterfly is unique because unlike most guns you can acquire 2 of them if you buy the one off the merchant before getting the treasure one. Which means you can sell one and reinvest the proceeds in the other. The merchant sell sit at a discount at some point (chapter 3, I think?) making your ROI that much better if you get the first one cheap. Or you can keep both and do the free reload when upgrading ammo capacity trick on both which means a lot of extra magnum ammo although this makes it harder to upgrade either of them fully.

I usually just sell the one as soon as I have the other. I don't know if it necessarily makes you OP but it makes for a nice instant cash influx so you can upgrade whatever you want a little faster than usual. Keep in mind you can only do it in the part of chapter 4 where Ashley is still with you and, again, you have to have bought the one for sale before getting your 2nd one or else it won't be for sale any more. The game doesn't really want you to have 2 of them.

People are nostalgic about Alone in the Dark and I remember thinking it was doing interesting things when it first came out but the disparity between its reception and resident evil isn't hard to explain. Alone in the dark was so fucking rough around the edges. It was caught in the awkward transition form 2D to 3D and the transition from pure point and click adventure games to ones with action unfolding in real time. It was just fucking clunky.

We were all impressed by it conceptually and it was a very new and exciting experience at the time but when RE came out it was immediately obvious that this was what they'd been aiming for all along and they just never completely pulled it off. Resident Evil pulled it off.

Everything wrong with RE1 could be fixed by not having to use inventory slots for keys.

I get that they don't want players carrying around a RE4-tier portable armory but fuck, man. Even if you free up whatever slots you're using for keys then assuming you have at least one healing item at most Chris could carry two guns with ammo and have *one* slot open for puzzle items, which woulnd't even be enough for half the puzzles in the game. The severely limited inventory solved a problem that didn't exist.
