You walk in on Toriel and Sans doing an upbeat ridiculous dance out of nowhere, completely obliterating the tension, serenity and exhaustion you were feeling after all that heavy shit at the end of Chapter 4. It's hilarious. You're supposed to laugh.
And when you're done laughing and the shock wears off, sooner or later you'll notice that Kris and Susie definitely aren't laughing. Maybe you were focused on them from the start, but that's doubtful with the ridiculous scene in front of you. Maybe you noticed when Susie leaves. Maybe you didn't notice until Kris is tossing and turning in their bed. But you'll notice it eventually, and that's when it stops being funny.
