Genre shifting was a huge fucking mistake.
Even if they wanted to make something like FF16, it should have unironically been a Mana game. The action RPG spinoff series.

Literally nothing wrong with that. People associate FF with turn-based for a reason and you dont just drastically change the direction of the series and expect no reprecussions for it.

It's not a creativity or nostalgia issue. The series has an established identity and people have grown attached to it. Since X, Square thought they could violate this golden rule and the franchise has been paying the price ever since. When people ask for remakes they are indirectly asking Square to drop the action combat bullshit and get back to doing turn-based again. What they didn't expect was Mr. KH reading it as him being given greenlight for more action combat and KH story telling. It also doesn't help that FF7 suffers from compilation cancer.
