I'm the anon before you and I ride a dualsport and even do the dualsport thing with it. If anything I'd say ADVs are sport tourers for larpers. Really though I just want one because I want to go places outside my local area and need a bike with a bigger tank and the ability to keep up with highway traffic (which means 80+ in my region) but I still want to be able to check out cool gravel and dirt roads etc. when I get there.
As for Shoomers, he clearly has an interest in the dual sport thing but was also talking about a sport tourer, and an ADV is basically a mashup of the two.

Guess I'm obligated to post for this one.
I feel bad, haven't been on the bike since last Friday, was busy all week and then the weather went crazy and dumped snow on the mountains this weekend. I've got like 120mi until the break-in oil change and really need to get that knocked out. On a cooler note though, Overland Expo PNW is this weekend and seems like it's gonna have a lot of bike stuff, I'm going Friday and will probably take the bike. I'll take pics and be /dbt/'s correspondent for any cool bike stuff that I see there too.

Just did 132mi through the mountains, by far my longest ride. (More than double, I think.) Wasn't too bad, honestly the worst part was the regular highway coming back. only 218mi left until the first oil change and being able to use all the RPMs.
