Leaf here, on top of the nimbies, builders only making shitty condos, over regulation for building, under regulation and lack of enforcement for fake income/mortgages, mass immigration is the ultimate fuck you that has destroyed everything.
It's now common place to see 5 different families from india, uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins, all pooling their money together to outbid local salaries and then all living in one single 3bedroom house with 5 cars in the driveway.
The other thing we see is the equivalent of boarding houses by new immigrate landlords who lie about their income to get a mortgage, then they buy a house, then every bedroom gets divided into 3 with shitty drywall, so a 3bedroom becomes a 12 bedroom, and these slums are rented out for $500/mo for a room, so the owner can afford their fraudulent mortgage.
Not to mention literally anyone can come here under an education visa from a diploma mill and work, and they get government subsidized wages so they're cheaper to hire than Canadians, we end up in a situation with extremely high youth unemployment rates where nobody can afford to move out of their parents.
The country has been sold out from under us, all for what? To prop up a shitty housing market that has been overpriced for decades, meanwhile everything else stagnates because there's no reason to invest in anything here because housing grows faster than anything else, and every physical business has a very high burn rate from day 1 because of the high rates on real estate that it's difficult to turn a profit doing something productive.
It's always so tempting to write it off as greed or incompetence but this is by design. The only explanation offered up is

Real answer. Old people no longer see themselves as elders or old anymore starting with the boomer generation. This leads to them seeing the younger generation as competition. This has a lot of horrendous effects on society. Men no longer passing on skills to their descendant (there are literally skills that are getting lost forever due to this). Women teaching girls wrong on purpose in order to uniformly bring down female value, because that's the only way women compete (women bring others down, instead of improving themselves). And of course, the classic "fuck you I got mine" behavior of all old people, male boomers in particular.
