How the fuck were you ever unable to face where you wanted in the old games? Monster hunter actually uses analog movement to its fullest precisely because you can't just braindead point it forwards and forget about it because you're locked to the camera and the camera is locked to your target.
Your ability to position your Lance or Greatsword in the older games was literally a skill you had to hone, but now you just press a button and its literally no different than any generic third person shooter out there. This singular mechanic quite literally killed the satisfaction of landing a properly placed hit and surprise surprise, the combat is no longer so satisfying on its own that people want to put hundreds of hours into it like the old games.
