Right, but CoD4 was wildly popular, it sold millions and millions of copies, everyone was playing it and it sold more than the sequel. I don't know why you think MW2 was some breakout success, COD4 was more popular and MW2 just continued what that game did
also, Halo 3 predates all of these and was incredibly mainstream.
Wii Sports predates all of them as well and was played by literally everyone including grandmas in retirement homes.
