There is technically two.
Both Frisk and Chara are the player.
Frisk is the player who let's things go through the way they are "supposed" to, or how "Frisk would act".
Chara is player's dark urges. When you go and do genocide route, you let your dark urges take you over. And only thing you can do is accept what you have done.
Good things you do doesn't wipe away bad things you have done. That's why you get worst ending when you kill everyone before resetting and doing pacifist route. It is just facade of what you as player have really done, and you will let your dark urges go rampant.
Kris and [player] are different personas of course. While Undertale is about player restraining their freedom to let Frisk do what they want rather than let "Chara" side of them take control, Deltarune is about player using their freedom to affect Kris' choices who actively rebels back.
Kinda ironic when you think about it.

She has a lot of Santa stuff that Noelle says her Mom collects and the entire place looks like it's done up for Christmas. You could make the argument that it's less about the holiday itself and more about her missing daughter, though. Because, y'know. December Holiday. Looking at it through that lens the entire place is a walking trauma facility.

I haven't seen a lot of that myself
If by doom you mean
>sad ending / bittersweet with emphasis on bitter
I do think ch4 probably ends us at the absolute nadir of all the characters's emotional states on normal route, so I think that's contributing to the feeling of hopelessness.
Of course, Deltarune will be a story of HOPE so people just need to hang in there.

This game has got me staying awake late into the night (while I'm actively trying to sleep) thinking of schizo theories.
I swear the word "MANCOUNTRY" repeated over and over in my head for like 3 hours while I was going in and out of sleep. I don't wanna play again and get all eggs but I don't wanna play any other game either so I just kinda sit there all day.
