We all highlight how Ralsei is a Darkner and how he's a bit of a weird Darkner (likely special object attached to Kris or an object that's not really tied just to an item like Gerson was).
What people don't discuss how he's a Prince, since this was basically never brought up after the start of Chapter 1.
Why, though?
Aside from some weirdness, he is just another character, not even particularly that powerful. He is not the leader, or even "a" leader.
He doesn't really have a kingdom or subjects (said so himself). He literally didn't have any personality at first (said so himself). In fact, the only thing he ever did is be suddenly born (likely not long before the events of the game), and just wait for Kris and Susie to arrive.
Yet he insists on being a prince. Not just a prince, but a prince of the darkness itself, it seems.
I doubt that's a word Toby would use randomly.

What is the prince-like quality, the essense of princeness that makes him a prince? How is this going to play into anything? Right now, his only unique quality is knowing the prophecy and dark world rules somehow (again, he was seemingly born or created with this in mind).

Kris's expressions/emotions are just hidden from us most of the time, in the same way that we can't usually read their thoughts or hear what they're saying. There's plenty of examples of us getting told that Kris is reacting strongly to something while we still just see the default neutral sprite.
It's part of the whole experience of presenting Kris as a typical silent protagonist, creating dissonance when we're told about things we can't see happen and making it more impactful when we do see Kris act on their own or act out against us.
It also keeps Kris's intentions more mysterious. The whole scene after defeating The Knight is wide open for interpretation because Kris is locked into a completely neutral pose while Susie and Kris get one-shot right next to them.

You can't really create a fountain just by having determination and striking the earth. The Darkners believe this simply because they are retarded and have limited knowledge and deify mundane events, since the Dark World transforms everything and has a quality of making the mundane transcendential (or at least meaningful).
The prophecy and all the tales also make it seem like Darkness is just a persisent quality of the world, like Light is. Like it's something that was always there, another element to the universe.
But that doesn't add up at all. If Darkness has been there since time immemorial and is required for world balance (so even split of light and dark)... Why are we closing the fountains (aside from the risk of Titans emerging, but that's not a pre-requisite for them)?
How is there supposed to be this millenia-long element that the whole balance of the world hinges on and yet there is only supposed to be one source of it, confined to a random school closet and likely created just a few days before?
Remember, mundane becomes meaningful, so for a Darkner a person creating a fountain 30 minutes ago feels like a Deity arriving at the world and inseminating it with life millenia ago, with pre-established rules, relationships, grudges (even though they are aware this is not the case).

Come to think of it, this whole quality of "making mundane grand and meaningful" feels like... writing itself. Considering Gerson being there (who is really just Tolkien who also lampshades themes of eucatastophe) and the whole theme of Chapter 4, I feel like the intention of the dark worlds is not being about escapism (even though ch 1-3 depicted it as such), but rather about the quality of writing and creating stories given form, which sounds similar but not necessarily so.
It doesn't turn fantasy into reality, it gives reality a cosmic meaning instead.

Ralsei exists for the purpose of fulfilling the Prophecy. He has no history because he's not based on any real object. He "fits in" everywhere because he's supposed to be wherever the Heroes go. All of his knowledge and abilities are defined by The Prophecy, and once The Prophecy is fulfilled his purpose will have been served.

Personally I prefer to see it as you seeing things from The Judge's perspective. He likely saw The Batter as a normal man at first, but after the grief of losing his brother and losing his mind, his perception of the one he blames becomes warped into something amalgamous into The Batter's sins.

What really happens is that there is already a source of Darkness underneath the town (likely connected to the bunker), and striking the earth just somehow reveals it.
This doesn't really address the issue of the closet, though. Why is it there that the only real/pure fountain resides? Why not in the bunker, then?
Moreover, if Darkness is just someone's (Gasters' or anyone else's) recent experiment, why all the fuss about it? Why the millenia-long stories, why the Deltarune religion? If it can bring such a calamity, wouldn't it be easier to just not create it instead and avoid all the trouble? Or is the risk of summoning a calamity worth it as the dark supposed to save us from something even worse?
Darkness being an element inherent to the universe as the stories say doesn't fully add up. It being someone's manmade experiment doesn't fully add up either (unless it was somehow required to create it despite everything).
What really doesn't add up is there being a real-world religion and prophecy tied to it, even though the Light World is supposed to be completely realistic in contrast with the Dark. Why, then? And what's with the prophecy? Who prophesized it? Who believed it for hundreds of years without a charismatic Jesus-figure to spread/symbolize it? It just is, somehow.
I don't actually want this game to go full meta, but I imagine it'll go something like this. The only logical way for something to exist in the Light World as immoving and unchaging while maintaining its role as a "real" world... is to have something come from an even higher reality, which is either our real world or Gaster shit.
The game already has a whole theme of worlds within worlds going (Chapter 3 has like five layers of it).

Ralsei is presumably aware that if you abandon the game the world is doomed, so he does his best to appeal to you and accommodate what you want to keep you engaged with the game. He's also aware that you're possessing Kris against their will, so he creates opportunities to distract you to give Kris a break sometimes, just out of the goodness of his heart.

When we look elsewhere in the Dark World we're definitely still connected to Kris, you can even see the SOUL flying in from offscreen and going back to Kris sometimes. The SOUL can move more freely and seemingly has greater powers in the Dark World.
From what we learn in Chapter 4, it seems like Kris being possessed is part of the plan and the voice on the phone implies that Kris specifically needs us for Dark World stuff. They move and act strangely but they don't seem to be actually physically impaired without us, they can move very quickly and accurately hit us with shit from across the room. Chapter 4 ending with us in the bird cage again while Kris is trying to sleep, and seemingly about to jump out the window without us, also implies that Kris takes us out at night regularly (assuming we've been possessing them for more than these 3 days) and doesn't seem to be any worse off for it.
The only other example we have of a soulless vessel animated by Determination alone is Flowey in Undertale. Deltarune should be one of those toxic fucking general threads - it is a general thread here on /v/ but it invites none of the fucking cancer that you see in generals (yet). I mean there is someone here dedicated to making it impossible to talk about Mother 3 - a thing that once had the same feeling as the Deltarune threads now. It really defies the stereotype that the furries were the worst people on the Internet because they wouldn't shut the fuck up about their sick fetishes. And it's just completely strange that Deltarune somehow avoids attracting all the worst elements of the Internet and 4chan.

I think it's because Deltarune has enough complexity that it demands people care and the damaged pieces of shit ultimately can't care enough.
