Ignoring that, Deltarune being released in chapters is a major detriment to it. Undertale releasing all at once allowed the alternate endings to shine through, meanwhile Deltarune has over half the fanbase going into Chapters 3 and 4 already knowing about Snowgrave, something that absolutely did melt people's minds upon discovery, but now is left as a drawn out payoff of an alternate path to something everyone else is already anticipating.
There's no winning with Deltarune, even with me liking the music more, the battle system, the humor, the characters, it's stuck endlessly changing on a subatomic level because of each chapter taking long enough to come out that both Toby AND the players are completely different people when they release.
Personal anecdotes aside, Deltarune is absolutely the mechanically superior game compared to Undertale, it's just that nobody is actually taking advantage of the strategic complexity, not even Toby himself. The little that is there gets ignored because people are trained to blindly spam ACTs that cost low TP and use up the most turns
>Queen's acid shield is faster to take down by fighting than using the Toast ACT
>Tenna's score system is best gamed by using Susie and Ralsei's unique actions, but everybody just spams the low TP cost 3-party Minigame act over and over
>Plenty of minibosses and enemies can be spared in less turns if you lower their HP by 50% and use Pacify instead of wasting 3-4 turns using ACTs
