So why did I end up liking Tenna way more than Mettaton? To the point that Tenna almost feels like Toby's chance of doing Mettaton right? I can't help think that part of it is, aside from the obviously more effort that went into Tenna, was just the simple fact that Tenna was more likable due to how being downtrodden and neglected was a major character point. Mettaton was written to be too much of a Hot Shot in Undertale for me to like him that much.

You don't know what "unpopular opinion" means, or maybe even what "interesting means". The average fan will not dispute that Spamton is more mysterious, creepy, thought provoking etc than Gerson. Nonetheless, Gerson filled a specific role in the narrative and character development of the main cast. The point of his character was what it was, not to try to arbitrarily "outdo" Spamton.
It's not always good to try to continuously "escalate" set pieces anyway. 3+4 had a lot of character development and stakes setting and the fights in it fit that.
Since the release was originally intended to be 3+4+5 I'd expect 5 to have something more to your taste

There is technically two.
Both Frisk and Chara are the player.
Frisk is the player who let's things go through the way they are "supposed" to, or how "Frisk would act".
Chara is player's dark urges. When you go and do genocide route, you let your dark urges take you over. And only thing you can do is accept what you have done.
Good things you do doesn't wipe away bad things you have done. That's why you get worst ending when you kill everyone before resetting and doing pacifist route. It is just facade of what you as player have really done, and you will let your dark urges go rampant.

Kris and [player] are different personas of course. While Undertale is about player restraining their freedom to let Frisk do what they want rather than let "Chara" side of them take control, Deltarune is about player using their freedom to affect Kris' choices who actively rebels back.

I think it's obvious that there's some sort of connection between Kris and the Knight, but why would Kris stay in contact with Dess and not tell anybody about it, when she's presumably missing or considered dead? I also don't see how you could tie it back to the game's themes established so far. People who craft such theories don't think about the bigger picture, and just focus on minute inconclusive evidence.
