I agree with you about anyone taking a hard reading about the Soul being evil. I saw a tweet point out pretty astutely that if you choose not to continue the game after a fail, Gaster says "then the world fell into darkness" or something like that. So the player and Gaster need to do whatever they're up to for the Deltateens to even have a future.
Maybe people who are hard about the "Soul is evil" idea are people who are "all routes are canon" maximizers like people who say Genocide is the canon end to Undertale. I've never been a fan of that way of thinking.
That said, if we suspend disbelief and say the Light World is totally real, then there's definitely some potential for us as the soul to "act unethically" even without Snowgrave, but it's also something where the circumstances are so extraordinary and unique that you really just need to give the player a lot of leeway for "ethical mistakes" they might arguably make. Like the movie Groundhog Day or something. Just try to get through it and save the Deltateens and we can forgive any issues. That's my take.
