Spain should be given much more credit in the USA.
Spain founded the first city in the USA. Spain owned half of the USA, explored, named and administred several states and hundreds of places (including the Gran Cañon del Colorado: Grand Canyon).
Spain was the first European language to be spoken. The Spanish "real de a ocho" (piece of eight) was the first coin used in the USA even after they got independized from England.
Spain contributed to the "western" culture, cowboy culture, ranchos, rodeos, patios. Spaniards taught indians to ride horses and with this the indian-cowboy battles were kino.
Spain contributed a lot to their independence. Galvez had a major role to it. Spain gave lots of money, munition and soldiers.
