Plushie on plushie violence sounds good to me. They're definitely similar enough for it to work, plus Seam is a magician so it makes sense for them to give away a weapon to the party mage. Would that make the player the Jevil to Ralsei's Seam...? It seems like Ralsei might be forced to banish us, assuming we're the Angel, like Seam was forced to lock away Jevil.

I think so too. I also think the player's presence is another factor. He's basically male Toriel, at least in a very superficial sense, in terms of his appearance, his tutorials, and even stuff like his baking. Toriel is the uniting factor between Kris, Susie, and the SOUL (since we've canonically played Undertale) so it makes sense that she'd be his "base."
Another point in favor of the "Ralsei was formless and shapeshifted into his current appearance" theory is that you could easily interpret him being especially proud of his face as him deliberately designing an appealing face.
