This is not my theory these are the facts. What I assume is the following
Follow the tale means

The tail is associated with freedom
If the children followed the tail and something bad does that mean Dess and Kris followed the tail through the forest to the bunker, or to the man behind the tree?

I don't think we've seen them yet. We're only halfway through the game and we've already killed a fucking Titan, there's definitely going to be some more OP eldritch bullshit none of us can predict. The tail is just being foreshadowed now so it's less weird when it shows up as an endgame villain, IMO.
