also, here's the RPG's ass-pull explanation since it was never actually important to the movies, but games need stats.
in the RPG, ships have an FTL rating that tells you how many parsecs it can travel per day, so the lower the number, the better. 1 is the minimum, though.
also the RPG assumes a default setting of 2183, a few years after Aliens and Alien3. and "Heliades-class" should be the same type as the Prometheus, with or without 90 years of improvements in technology to make it go faster.
based on the RPG, the same class of ship as the Nostromo's got an FTL rating of 12, Sulaco's got one of 2. Earth to Zeta 2 Reticuli is about 12 parsecs, so 144 days and 24 days minimum.
And I guess they gave the Prometheus an FTL rating of 52, for a 1.7 year travel time.

not that any of this is actually canon, but it's closer than the old Colonial Marines manual
