if your monitor can't do >1000 nits at 75% APL you didn't experience true HDR, sorry. I have a 1400 nit miniLED and a QD-OLED monitor sitting right next to each other, and it's incredible how similar they are in dark scenes while the miniLED completely blows away the OLED in bright scenes. Go ahead and guess which is which, then proceed to cope however you wish.

I'm using a budget 180hz VA miniLED right now with an (subjectively) acceptable amount of black smear. I haven't come across a single IPS without some combination of glow, off axis silvering, backlight bleed, and mediocre contrast ratio. Literally 20+ IPS monitors ranging from $150 to $600 trialled. "It's inherent to the tech, bro!" Just like IPS white smearing, which IPS cultists never seem to mention. Enjoy those 900:1* contrast ratios, IPS bros.

Conversely, some of the new VA miniLEDs look absolutely gorgeous and can put up a good fight with OLED even in low APL scenes.
