>CONMEBOL has ruled to disqualify Independiente from the 2025 Copa Sudamericana following violent incidents during their match against Universidad de Chile on August 20, 2025, at the Libertadores de América - Ricardo Bochini stadium. The violence, initiated by Universidad de Chile fans throwing projectiles and escalating with Independiente fans invading the visitors' stand, led to the match's cancellation. As a result, Universidad de Chile advances to the quarterfinals to face Alianza Lima. Independiente faces additional sanctions: a $250,000 fine, to be deducted from TV and sponsorship rights, and a requirement to play their next seven home and away international matches without fans. However, the club is not banned from participating in 2026 international competitions. The ruling cites violations of CONMEBOL’s Disciplinary Code, Security Regulations, and Sudamericana Club Manual.
