As many anons pointed out, online stuff makes left one kinda pointless. Someone got a Dragonite? Well now they breed them nonstop and gives Dratini to everyone or trades leveled up Dragonairs to everyone. Or hacks one.
Right one is just smarter from accessibility aspect. Also left one would be called "unfair hassle to get a strong pokemon".
I personally think that if Pokemon had only local wireless for trading, the left one would be better. Grinding a cool mon and getting few eggs, then sharing it to few others who haven't done the grind, or if the mon is from different version.
These days you just connect to anyone to get any mon you want. It's streamlined but also has removed social aspect from Pokemon. You don't need to have a friend with different version anymore.
To me that is the biggest reason I don't have much passion for Pokemon anymore, other than porn that is.
