I never said I disliked Shadow. I like him for the story her serves and the purpose he gives for SA2's plot and he serves as a decent enough rival character. My problem with him is his popularity leading to the entire franchise bending over backwards to incorporate his moody, edgy self in almost anything they can put him into to appeal to his fans and get their money.
Shadow should have, in any reasonable situation, been retired after SA2 at least for a while. Instead he directly lead to over half the cast getting vaulted for over a decade and the moment they take him back out the exact same fucking problems he caused last time start rearing their ugly heads. This franchise simply is not meant to have a character like Shadow be a constant player in it. Sonic is supposed to be cool and edgy as is. Setting him up with a rival character that's supposed to be an even greater flanderization of those traits in Sonic just makes both characters worse. It's why we now have Sonic fans who genuinely believe Sonic is supposed to be a goody-two-shoes hero.
