I get where you're coming from, and sure. But from what I know, no matter how much mixing happened, they never called themselves French, they always said Norman, and when invading England, they referred to themselves as Normans, not French. I think this gives us a rough, partial glimpse of how many pure French there really were among them

Globalization didn’t exist like it does now. There wasn't a cheaper alternative overseas, so domestic production was the default. Consumers had no choice but to buy local, and prices were structured accordingly.

And less automation and less outsourcing. Production was more local because logistics and global trade weren't as efficient or cost-effective as today.
