>Face the Sun- Trial of Heart

>Not all Neophytes become full Astartes. Many die in battle, fail to integrate properly with their implants, or fall short in the eyes of their mentor. Those who endure all that comes before must still face the Trial of Heart, a final gauntlet of judgment that proves not only their martial competence but their mental and spiritual fortitude.
>Phase one: The Ashen Road
Each Neophyte, upon nearing the end of their training, is pulled from regular duties and entered into a period of seclusion, contemplation, and labor. The Ashen Road varies in length, usually days or weeks.

>Phase II: The Shaped Trial

>When their mentor believes the time is right, they design a trial reflecting their pupil’s weaknesses.

>If successful, the neophyte is sent back to the Rubblecrown on Oracleus Minor itself. Once there they are escorted to a secret chamber in the very heart of the massive vault complex’s Apothecarion wing. Within this chamber, called the Occulus Solari resides the sleeping dreadnought Sokar Sunbreath.
Connected to his sarcophagus is the Cradle of Faith, a cogitator-throne laced with psycho reactive materials. The neophyte dons the Crown of Hopes, a neural circlet of ancient design that feeds their thoughts, memories, and fears into the machine. The device was found in a sealed medical vault below one of the abandoned hives of Oracleus in M37, rather than turning it over to Tejana the Coal Hearts kept the throne and circlet for their own use. Eventually integrating it fully into their traditions as Sokar began to sleep longer and longer.

>Kydov Front M41.997-Ongoing:
>Following the eruption of warp storms in the Kydov subsector a Slaaneshi cult known as the Veiled Exultation managed to take over the capital city of the industrial world of New Kydov, itself the heart of the Kydov subsector. The Coal hearts responded in chapter strength after the defection of the first Guard regiments deployed to suppress the uprising. Only for a chaos ritual to summon a terrible localized warp storm over the city mid drop. The ritual also summoned a Keeper of Secrets and thinned reality allowing demons to spill out and reinforce the cultists. The resulting psychic shock wave killed most of the chapter's librarians as they tried to shield their brothers and inflicted hallucinations and catatonia in the survivors. Cut off from one another and landing off course the Coal Hearts were caught in rolling ambushes throughout the city they had come to liberate. The roiling storm of warp energy cut them off from orbital support and disrupted even local communications.

>The chapter’s protective nature was turned against them as the populace were used as maddened human shields and driven into the chapter’s lines ahead of the traitors and warp spawn. Luckily the Keeper at the heart of the cult was banished by an inquisitorial strike force alongside chapter master Dante Kattai and his honour guard, though at the cost of all their lives. This dispelled the storm and allowed the fleet in orbit to provide support and evacuate the survivors before obliterating the corrupted metropolis. This promptly escalated to a general exterminatus of all major planetary population centers on orders from the Inquisition. After the chapter's mauling the inquisition followed up with an aggressive investigation believing only treachery could have led to it. However the chapter survivors were declared to be free of taint. The Coal Hearts were so badly damaged they focused all their efforts on rebuilding for the next decade.
Anybody play a game this week? I got to play against Weaters with the Night Fighting twist. Funnily enough it changed nothing for either of us since most of my shooting is only 12” anyway. My opponent got a pic of my bladeguard slapping the shit out of his terminators before Kharn could show up.
