In a tab targetting MMO.
In an FPS there is no aggro and your enemies will ignore you if all you do is tank damage. For a tank to work in this type of game they have to be dangerous and lethal. But they also need to be durable so they can soak damage properly. But this introduces another issue. If your tank is good at both killing/soaking damage then your squishy damage dealers are obsolete. So to balance our tanks we have to reduce their mobility and effective range. Now your tank is slow, predictable, abusable, but thats ok because a tanks job is to hold space. If you don't respect that space you are supposed to get clobbered. Look at TF2 heavy again, his close range DPS is extremely high and is hitscan but he is slow. One of the best ways to abuse this weakness is the sniper. If heavy competes with Sniper on range why should you ever play sniper over heavy?
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about if you are citing Overwatch as an example of good game design.
